10sec Trick n Treat: Dog Treat On My Nose Contest + Recipe: Peanut Butter Banana Oats Dog Treat

September 4, 2010

If you missed my 9/1 Wordless Wednesday post Click Here.
How did I do it? It was not easy. It requires lots of …
Practice, Patience and Perseverance.
At first, I don’t understand the point of doing it.
Why is it so hard to just get a tasty treat?
I’m a Senior Dog but I’m a Puppy at heart when it comes to a tasty treat. My mom said that I forgot the command “WAIT.” She had great intention that Dog Treat On My Nose Trick would help me. I started with a small cookie just above my eye then on my nose.
This trick is meant to be fun so I only practice in short sessions. I also set a time limit of 10seconds (from start to end). I called this the 10sec Trick n Treat. I gained an admiration on this trick. Why not?
I get to have a tasty treat.

If you wish to try this 10sec Trick n Treat, Here’s Some Helpful Tips …
1 Ask your dog to sit and stay.
2 Lay the treat on your dog’s nose.
3 Gently and slowly move your hand away.
4 Say the command word “WAIT”
5 Have your dog balance the treat for 3sec
6 Then say “GET IT” (eat your treat)
Practice these steps a few times. In the next session, ask your dog to wait and balance the treat for 5sec.  Each session go a couple of seconds longer until your dog can wait and balance the treat for 10sec.
That’s it! I’m encouraging everyone to give 10sec Trick n Treat a try.

Send in your photo to sugar@goldenwoofs.com by October 1st.
3 participants will be awarded with
Sugar’s Paw House All Natural Dog Treats

I’m lucky in learning this trick because I don’t usually get a large treat.
Truly, a treat to learn this trick.
Peanut Butter Banana Oats Dog Treat
Ingredients:
2 cups of Flour
2 cups of Oats
2 Ripe Bananas
1 1/2 cup of Peanut Butter
1 1/3 cup of water
2 tbsp – 1/4 cup of oil
Combine and stir all the ingredients. Adjust liquid as necessary to make stiff dough. Roll on floured cutting board to 3/8″ thick. Cut it with a bone shape cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 3 to 3 1/2 hours in 250 degree oven until thoroughly dry.

Enjoy! Have a Golden FUN Weekend.
Lots of Golden Woofs,

We're slowly working on this… Kirby is a master of looking like he'll let you put the treat on his nose, then reaching up and trying to snatch the treat! He's pretty sneaky. We hope as he gets a little older he'll be able to do this just like you! 🙂

The problem starts when mom tries to lay the treat on our noses! Our noses are always raised in the Aire trying to reach that treat! What the heck does "wait" mean?!

This is a great trick! We had a foster dog once that had come to us as a stray, it wasn't until he was adopted that we found out he could do that trick–Who would teach a dog that and then not move heaven and earth to find him? But I was so disappointed because I could have been having fun doing that with him! THANKS for the recipe for the treats–It looks like an easy enough trick to make them! :-)) Have a wonderful weekend!!

Nice to meet you Sugar and for visiting our Blog. My humom copied your recipe for Peanut Butter Banana Oats Dog Treats and is going to make some for us today! Thank you, thank you….the only problem is Mack. He doesn't have a snout being a Pug and all. Maybe he'll have to learn the 10second trick with the treat on top of his head!
Come back and visit us soon and keep up the good work.

    Drools and licks,

I tried that with Riley last night. She was too busy trying to get the treat to let me put it on her head or nose. She lets me put it on her paw and leaves it til I release her. I told her stay and leave it for the treat on her head but she wasn't having any of that. We'll have to try again!

I have not mastered the treat on the nose or head trick. I do leave it and take it real well with treats but as soon as mom gets a treat near my mouth I figure that;s where it's going. I confess that in spite of my two years I am still guilty of mouthing mom and dad not to mention all the licking.

I love your picture with the blog hop logo in it!

Oh boy, another recipe! Your last one (the frosty paws) is our favorite, and I bet this will be the perfect winter alternative!

Mom says she is sending you a photo. I don't really have a nose, mind you, but it's my little variation on your 10 sec trick!!
