Summer☀ is also the time of year when the weather gets HOT.
We would like to share an article written by our friend Kimberley from VetDepot.
Summer☀ Safety Tips for Dog Owners
It’s SUMMER☀ which means plenty of fun in the sunshine! However, it’s important to take the proper precautions to keep your family safe during the warmer months- including the furry family members.
☀ NEVER Leave your Dog in a Parked Car
Temperatures can reach 120 degrees even on a mildly warm day, which can cause heat exhaustion and even death for a dog left in a parked car. Cracking a window is not enough, protect your pup by simply leaving him at home on a warm day if you have an errand to run.
☀ Exercise is Okay… But Use Caution!
During the warmer months, it’s a good idea to limit exercise time to mornings and evenings to avoid the hottest part of the day. Also, make sure your dog has plenty of water breaks when playing or going on a walk. Easy access to water is crucial year round, but especially during the summer months.
☀ Always Provide a Cool Place
Dogs always need access to a cool place to rest. If inside with air conditioning or a fan isn’t an option, make sure your pooch has access to plenty of shade outside. It’s best to never leave your dog outside in hot weather for an extended period of time.
Signs of heat exhaustion include staggering/disorientation, restlessness, weakness, panting, fever, salivation, diarrhea and vomiting, seizures and unconsciousness. If you think your dog is suffering from heat stroke, immediately move him to a cool place and contact your veterinarian.
☀ Dogs Can Get Burned Too!
On especially sunny days, it’s not a bad idea to apply some sunscreen to your pup’s nose and the tips of his ears to prevent sunburn. Dogs with light colored fur are especially vulnerable to sunburn and skin cancer. Also, the pads of your dog’s feet are susceptible to burns if the pavement is too hot. A good rule of thumb; if the ground is too hot for you to be barefoot, it’s also too hot for your pooch!
☀ Protect Against Fleas
Summer is the season for fleas! To protect your precious pup from these itchy pests and your home from a flea infestation, a preventative medication like Frontline Plus or K9 Advantix is a smart idea. These types of flea preventatives do not require a prescription and are given only once a month- making them extremely convenient.
By keeping these few tips in mind, you can keep your precious pooch Safe and Happy all Summer☀ long!

The momma hates to put us in the car during summer-so when we do get in she starts that dog transporting machine up first and we don't have to get in until it's all cooled off.

"Let’s all have some fun, the summer heat has come to town!" I suggest we hit the beach as soon as possible. I will not waste my summer. I will go to the beach tomorrow with my dog.
