Training a dog is an important duty of a responsible dog owner.
It also makes life better for both owner and dog.
My family took a lot of time and patience to train me.
Believe me I was a little handful to train.
Food was the main factor to my success, which I never grew out of.
Now I combine my training in doing tricks, of course for fun and with a food reward.
Did you know that it is beneficial teaching your dog a trick.
Doing tricks helps stimulates your dog’s mind and challenges him/her to try new things.
Doing fun tricks with your dog involves learning and
mastering basic commands such as sit and stay.
These are the 2 main commands that I master immediately and
very important to learn fun tricks such as balancing treat on my nose/head.
Many of you I’ve asked How Did I Balance TREATS on my nose/head?
It started Sept 4, 2010 when mom was making me a Tasty Treat: Peanut Butter Banana Oats.
I was so excited to have a taste and she said I forgot my manners to “wait.”
So she taught me a Trick: Dog 10 sec Dog Treat On My Nose.

Then October 25, 2011 (new year, new trick), I learned to Balance Treats (yes Treats) with my favorite tasty treat Pumpkin Bones. Click Here to read our post.
On our November 1, 2011 I tried to balance treats that were in round shapes.

We received numerous emails in regards to my balancing treat(s) trick.
Wisteria, a home decor website featured my 10 sec dog treat on my nose photo in their blog, click here to read their post.
Recently, my Balancing TREATS photo was featured on the Red Dog, Blue Dog book,

Also, on my Jan 23, 2013 post, I balance a bunch of bananas on my head (5 bananas).
How did I do that?
Beside mastering the commands sit and stay, both you are your dog need to have patience.
5 simple reminders on teaching your dog a trick …
1) Remember to do it for FUN.
2) Do the trick in small increment of time.
3) Stop teaching the trick if your dog is uncooperative
4) Always start the trick from the beginning
5) Find a safe place to do the trick (balancing trick works best on carpeted or padded area)
* Don’t forget to praise your dog. *
How I balanced a banana on my head …
My mom commanded me to sit.
Then she placed the banana on my head.
I started with 1 small banana, just like the photo above.
My mom commanded me to stay as she placed the banana on my head.
I balance the banana on my head.
I added the SMILE
Below is a very short video on how I can balance a banana on my head.
FUN trick isn’t it …
What am I working right now … trying to balance objects
my toy Kong, toy paw bone and a book (Red Dog Blue Dog book)

Oh … I found this golf ball at the golf course.
It is dangerous for a dog to play with golf balls.
Just for FUN tried to balance it on my head and nose.
I have a curve on my head/nose …
Is this my secret feature that allows me to do the balance trick ???

Hope you enjoyed our post and encourage you to do a balancing trick with your dog.
Give it a try. Remember, “You can always teach a dog (no matter its age) a trick.”

We are joining Train Your Dog Challenge Blog Hop over at Something Wagging This Way Comes.

You are a very clever girl!
Awww, you do this so very well Sugar. I didn’t have a doubt though because I’ve seen you do this many times over the years. You are so talented.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your mom.
That’s just great Sugar… I must leran this trick too… thanks for the links….;o)
Wow, you’re a balancing superstar! You could be in the circus!
Wow I am pushing it to get a bone to stay up there for more than five seconds before I lose my control and flip it up and catch it. Now you go and do this and I am almost 100% sure My Vickie will start putting all kinds of stuff on my head and nose. YOu know Sugar by love, I usualy have nothing but good to say to you but this time…..well, come on……do you have to be so perfect.
Ah well, I still love you, even though I am gonna be balancing the tv remote on my nose in about three minutes.
Love
Bert
We have to get Mom to teach us these tricks! It looks like a lot of fun!!
You are a cleaver girl Sugar. I also balance treats on my nose. Then when MOM says OK I flip them in the air and I catch the treat. Yummm Yummm.
Blessings,
Goose
You and your mom are awesome! What talent. I love the banana hat! My cats are hiding from me now because they don’t know that I know better than to even try with tricks.
How very cool! We know sit and stay but mommy’s never made us balance anything yet. I have a feeling that’s about to change!
Hey Sweet thing…and happy month of love!!!
OMDs Sugar you have great balance and posture
Can hardly wait to learn where you and the peeps are now.
Lots of hugs your BFFF
Madi
OMD Sugar. You are the MOST talented dog I know! It is pawesome how many things you can balance on your head!!!
I’m very impressed, Sugar. I just started clicker training with my doxies. We’ll see how it goes!
Wow Sugar you are the absolute balance queen…I’d taught my Lab to balance one treat but your stacks and that round cookie pyramid are so impressive…and the Kong! Gizmo is a little handicapped cause his head is small and his nose is so short but we’re gonna have to get some very small cookies and try…you’ve inspired us! Thanks you!
I have cookies on the brain all the time – but not quite in the same way
Great job of balancing
You’re really good at the balancing treats/toy thing, Sugar! Maybe you you could come over and teach my boys a thing or two!
HaH….If I sees food on my nose, I’d have to gobble it right up before a packmate can steal it.
PeeS…..I got my Lavender shampoo and conditioner from Hawaii in da mail today. Guess tomorrow is (shh) Baf Day. I gonna smell just like you, Sugar!
Wow, we are impressed. Lee always freaks out when we try to put things on her head/face, but Phod may be able to do this . . .
You’re so super smart, Sugar, we bet you don’t need much, if any direction at all.
This is my favorite post of you Sugar!!! You are so beautiful when you’re focused.:)
You is a very patient dog!! I must try this, thanks for the tips
Cotton
You made me smile and laugh, Sugar. K was a champion of balancing things on her nose and head. Shyla will start on that trick before too long.
I think that the best part of silly tricks is that they are only for FUN. So, no one can possibly get upset or intense about teaching a silly trick! It’s fun for everyone.
Great job of balancing!
Wow Sugar, you are super talented! I need to get to work fast on my two!
You are SO talented Sugar!!! You never cease to amaze us!! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug
Hey Sugar, Jet here.
BOL! OMD! We’re so excited that the first post we get to read since Mom’s back is this one!
Sugar, you continue to astound us! First of all, you could definitely join circque de soleil or America’s got Talent… we would enjoy a calendar of your tricks! We love your diversity of props! If that Mr. Ed Sullivan was still alive, well… heck you would be a regular!
On a serious note, all of us at Casa Jetty cannot thank you enough for your words of encouragement, support, and understanding while Mom was you know where. Big hugs and Mahalo.
What a great trick! None of us know anything that fancy, we re going to try to step up the training
urban hounds
Sam is pretty good at balancing things on his head, but Monty thinks it is all a clever ploy to steal his soul.
Sam
Wow – you got skills! Our pawrents work with us in training and tricks. We can do a lot of tricks even though we are young. And we are in a class working towards our CGC!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
The pictures made me laugh! Great trick! Will have to try it one day
Hey Sugar, that’s great! Y-Bo can ‘balance’ a treat on his paws, but I never thought about on his head. Good job! Thanks for sharing and have a happy weekend.
Oh, Sugar. You are the BEST! I can manage balancing treats on my feet, but my nose? You get the prize for this one!!
Sugar you are so clever!
I love this trick!!! I think I might try and tackle it.
WOW!!!! Just wow!
Sugar, you look just like Carmen Miranda with those bananas on your head. Lovely job.
What’s most impressive is that you use such yummy treats. Many people use the junkiest, mediocre treats they can find. No wonder their dog doesn’t dive for them.
So glad you linked to the Train Your Dog Challenge. I hope to have the linky tool back soon. But I’ll be sharing everyone’s posts tomorrow.
Fun trick! Kirby can “wait” while a treat rests on his paw, but I think he’s still too wiggly to stay still long enough to balance one on his nose. We’ll work on it! Great pics!
Such an awesome trick! I can’t even balance a book on my head.
