It is officially SPRING!!!
With the cold and snowy Winter,
I’ve been cooped up mostly indoors.
I’ve been cooped up mostly indoors.
Mmmmm and I’ve gained an extra few Golden pounds.
How do I know that?
Well, I had a chance to go to the park last week and
I was not able to keep up with my mom’s run/walk pace.
I was not able to jump on the ledges where
I normally could have a clear view of the ducks.
I had to take extra rests which was an unusual behavior.
I got weighed this weekend and Oh! My! …
I have a health conscious family and they know the importance and benefits of exercise … it does the body and mind good. So I can’t wait on my family’s plan to get my “Golden Sexy Back.”
For those of you who are also trying to get back in shape, here’s an article Exercising With Your Dog” courtesy of

Both you and your dog need exercise, to keep you sane and healthy. Why not kill two birds with one stone and exercise together? You will develop a stronger bond with your dog, and he will enjoy sharing these activities with you. If your dog is a bit overweight, start carefully to avoid causing him injury.
Running with your dog is a great way for you both to keep in shape. You can let him run at his speed, and you can either have a brisk run or a slower jog, depending on the breed and size of your dog. Make sure you start your dog’s running program very gently, and wait until he’s physically mature enough to cope with the impact on his legs. Your vet will be able to advise you on this.
Walking is one of the most under-rated forms of exercise, and if either of you aren’t yet up to running, then a walk is excellent for both of you. It will also increase your heart rate and tone your muscles. There is a lot more to walking than the physical aspect, however, because as you experience the outdoors, you’ll find your stress levels will lower, and your spirits will be lifted.
If you work or are otherwise out for a lot of the day, your dog is likely to spend a lot of time indoors. This can affect him both emotionally. He needs this walk or run as much as you do.
If you have a fenced yard, you can play with your dog outside and he can get his exercise that way. However, it may not be as effective for you. Take a Frisbee or a ball and just start playing. If you keep running around and chasing the toy with your dog, you’ll find you’ll soon work up a sweat.
There are a few things you must keep in mind to make sure that the exercise is safe for your dog. Always carry water for him, especially if it is a hot day, so that he doesn’t get dehydrated. You must also watch for signs of fatigue or heat stress. If you encourage your dog to keep going when he is obviously worn out, he may become injured or seriously ill. Heat stress can be fatal.
Keep in mind the differences between breeds of dogs. Some dogs have short snouts which can cause breathing problems, and they cannot exercise as long as other breeds. Other dogs have very short legs and it takes them double the time to cover as much ground as a bigger dog. Keep all of these factors in mind and develop an exercise routine that works out well for both you and your dog.
Research has shown that people who own dogs get more exercise than those who don’t have a dog to walk or run with. Exercising together is so good for both of you. Start a routine, stick to it and have fun. You’ll both be pleased you did.

Take it slow….you will do great!
You still look pretty sexy to us!
Marge didn't gain any this winter – in fact, she lost a pound! I'm sure you'll be back in shape in no time.

We gave the black and chocolate sexy here, but we know what you're talking about. For both me and my dogs, having each other as motivation is SO key to getting out and exercising. Especially since we do our exercise at the same times each day, the dogs start shadowing my every movement for about an hour before exercise time. I'd be in big trouble if bailed out!
Here's to a new resolution Sugar!
We walk 2 miles with mom and dad every single day! It's fun! You'll slim down too, Sugar, now that the warmer weather is here and you can be outside more!
Love ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
Oh we will be so excited when we can walk and bike again every day!!!!

We do the opposite here in AZ – we slow down during the summer and do our big stuff in the winter! Right now Sam is a buff powerhouse – soon to be mushy marshmallow…
Sam
Oh, I'm sure you simply have an extra-thick winter coat, that's all!
