Golden Surprise when we received an email invitation to try out the new 6ft retractable leash from Flexi. WHY? we never used a retractable leash. Yes, you read it right … never had a retractable leash.
Since mom got me (10 years ago), I only had 2 leather leashes 12 ft 1 inch wide and 6ft 2 inches wide. It was suggested and recommended by my trainers. Both of my leashes are still in great condition. We often use the 6ft 2inches wide. I’m proud to say that I am well trained when we go for a walk/run. I heel at all times.
So using a retractable leash was something new to my mom and I.
She read the instruction on the box and on Flexi website.
She also watched a short video how to operate the Flexi leash.
Here I am in the backyard trying out the retractable leash. Unfortunately, the safety collar did not fit my neck so mom just attached the Flexi hook directly on the d ring of my harness. Mom and I walked around the backyard testing how to operate the leash, specifically the stop, brake and release controls. What we like is the 6ft length … just enough length. We are ready to test Flexi leash on our walk in the park.
Here I am at my favorite park. We went for a mini hiking adventure.
Of course I wore my hiking backpack which has a d ring on top
and was able to attached the Flexi leash hook.
At first, my mom was uneasy using the Flexi leash but after getting use it she got comfortable. She had to stop and say the word “go” to me so I can walk in front of her. Cool! I was able to sniff lots of stuff on the ground … that was FUN. Mom saw a small animal (a frog Ribbit!!!), she immediately called me and the retractable leash did an awesome job as I walked towards my mom.
Also, on our walk many walkers/hikers use the same leash but they were not being responsible dog owners. I think the thin cord of the leash makes some dogs feel as though they aren’t actually on a leash, and as a result, the dogs go everywhere and do whatever. From this we believe that a retractable leash is not for everyone.
I am proud to say that I am a trained dog and this 6ft Flexi leash provides me the freedom to move, sniff and
at the same time feels as if I am close to my mom.
My mom felt that the handle/grip is a bit big since she has petite hands. She wishes the handle and the width of the leash come in different sizes.
A width of 1 1/2 to 2 inches will be great.
A width of 1 1/2 to 2 inches will be great.
All in all, I give this 6ft Flexi Leash 3 Golden Paws out of 4.
It is a leash we will be using on our mini hikes and short relaxed walks.
I had a Golden Delightful mini hiking adventure.
Lots of Golden Thanks Flexi.

We saw many SUNFLOWERS on our mini hike … want to share a photo.
Lots of Golden Woofs
Wow purrty cool. You sure make a good model Sugar. Although we use Flexi, one leash snapped on us. Lily ran and almost got hit by a car
Benny & Lily
We have a flexi and mom will only let me use it. She says that Mitch pulls too hard and would probably snap it and we'd never see him again.
Your sunflower is beautiful, Sugar!
Love ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
We've never tried a flexi-leash either! Glad you enjoyed using it! That's a beautiful sunflower.
we use a retractable leash all the time. Mom loves it. She can keep walking when I stop to check pee mail and I can sniff around when she stops to take pictures.
I use a flexi on Dexter sometimes to give him the freedom to lag behind, sniff, run ahead. It provides him with more exercise on our walks. Mango? Never. I don't think they make any that wouldn't snap at the first pull.
Mango Momma
That thin leash does not give me much confidence with our strong dog, who is somewhat trained but when she can be very stubborn and want to go her own way sometimes.
I think the whole idea is to give the dog a sense of being off leash so they can run and chase things but the owner still has "control."
I am sure you walk like a true Lady butt Benny and Lily are right… these Flexi Leashes WILL snap.. if there is much pulling.
I totally LOVE that Sunny Flower.
We use one, but it is VERY old, from some old dog Mon had. So we need a new one! Mom has always loved it! Lovies, Miss Mindy
Mom had one a looooong time ago, but doesn't use it now. I'm like you, Sugar, and heel really well. Well, except when a cat decides to run. I don't think a flexi-leash would work so well then….
I love your backpack…Can you tell me what kind it is?
Hugs and bellyrubs,
~K
We are not doggies, but found that to be a very good review that should be very helpful for those dog owners out there who had questions on this type of item!
I love flexi leads, they are so handy when you want to give the dog some freedom but still have them under control. I used them all the time with Pip when she was younger so she didn't chase the sheep when I didn't want her to.
You look so happy in the sunbeams at the park, gorgeous Sugar=we always love seeing that precious face of yours!…Happy weekend sweet friend…kisses…Calle, Halle, Sukki
As I'm only a four month old pup, a flexi lead is great, it give me freedom to run around and be safe when I need to be safe. I might only be four months old, but I walk to heel too. But I'm easily distracted 🙂 ……lovely, lovely sunflower, happy guy 🙂 luvs, Freya Rose Blossom X
Flexi leads are best used with a harness. Forgot to say. Luvs. Freya Rose Blossom X
I DON'T PU~LL by the way, but then I think there are different flexi leads for different size dogs…
Big pulling dog, you need to buy a flexi lead for your size dog.stronger lead…. 🙂 Luv's Freya Rose Blossom X Finished now 🙂 That will teach someone to read the rest of the comments first 🙂 x
We use leather leashes too and Mom puts knots in them to shorten them a bit AND to give her some grip spots if she wants to rein us in a bit. We have a couple of flexi leads here but it is very hard to use 2 or 3 at one time and Mom never feels that the cords are strong enough. We know they work very well for some dogs, but not us.
You can leave us out of the drawing since we would not want to take a chance at winning away from another pup who really might be able to use this leash. Thanks for sharing.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
we sooooooooooooo LOVE this give-away (thank you!) and would be honored to participate!
Sugar, we are certain you are always a model citizen – whatever kind of leash you use. Looks like you had fun on your mini-hike!
Oh, and pretty flower too.
AROOOOF!
Boondock and The Love Shack Pack
Sugar, you are a perfect and a beautiful model for any product!
Since we moved to the country, we use flex-leads on the dogs that can't be off leash. This lets them have that 'roaming' feel and lets them see and smell more. We use the 26 foot and the 16 foot taped ones. I don't like the 'corded' ones because they seem to break easier, and also you can get a 'rope burn' of you have to grab them, or they become tangled. We've also gotten good at using them, and both my husband and I can hang onto three–Two in one hand–But we have big hands! :-)))
We never tried a Flexi, but who knows we may. Thanks for all the info. The Sunflower is beautiful!
Great review, Sugar. I think there are pros and cons to the Flexi Leash. While it might be good for hikes, it was not as easy to walk in the city with one.
I would love to try the Flexi-Leash!
Nubbin wiggles,
Oskar
We have and use a retractable leash when in our yard but not for walks- for the very reason you described. But they are nice if you don't have a fenced yard and are going out for just a potty break or, as in our case, the fence has been damaged and we wait for it to be repaired.
Ok…Mom jus' hogged my puter for da last 87 minutes lookin' at dos flexi leashes. We never used one before. Mom likes the "Hawaii" style wit da flower on it. Me tinks her just wants to go to Hawaii. Her likes da purple one da best but me tinks yellow would go much better wit me furs.
Sugar, you is gorgeous as usual.
Your story is very interesting and i really got entertainment by reading your story. Thanks for sharing!!!
I actually like retractable leashes because I can SHORTEN them without having to deal with extra leash. Kind of like a traffic lead and a 6 ft leash all in one. I am entering the giveaway 🙂
I like the pink city flexi leash
