Most likely you walk with your dog. Walking with your dog is the most common activity that is both health beneficial for you and your dog.
Being healthy and actively fit is very important for my mom.
Beside walking, we run and stair climb together.
If you’ve been a follower of my blog, you would know my mom enjoys stair climbing and participates on a stair climbing event every year.
I am her Sidekick Golden Buddy.
Here I am, sitting on one of the steps we often climb.
These steps are located at one of my favorite parks close to my house.
It is called the Lakefront Park. A dog-friendly park with a PAWSOME view of Lake Michigan. Dogs are welcome to play along the beach area during the months of September – May.
Here I am at the beginning of our stair climb.
How many steps? 72 steps
It does not take us a long time to get to the top.
To access the steps again, we have to go down a hill.
OH I LOVE this part. Here I come…sprinting down.
Then we pass the beach path and park …
and start over again with our stair climb.
Depending on the weather, we do this about 10 times
Did you know that Stair Climbing for 10 minutes a day will burn the same amount of calories as a 20 minute jog. Stairs are great for cardiovascular health and conditioning. It’s a PAWSOME lower body workout for you and your dog.
How do I climb the stairs? I am on a leash (6ft long)……mostly my mom keeps up with my speed especially in the beginning. I’m a Senior Golden DOG but I still got Speedy Golden Legs.
If you have access to stairs, try to incorporate stair climbing
with your daily walks and/or run with your dog.
Be Aware of Stair Climbing FUN …
your dog might develop “stair-obsessions”
After our stair climbing, I hang out here …
while mom does pulls up and stretches.
I also stretch by bowing/leaning backwards as I watch the morning sun.
I am very fortunate to have access to this wonderful park.
I wish I know more about these steps … history and building process.
I spend 3 times a week in this park and I Golden LOVE it.
This post was inspired by my friend George The LAD, who blogs on weekends (Saturday/Sunday Steps) about the different places in his town/city that have steps. It’s lovely to see/read George steps adventures, great photographs too. Click here to check out George’s blog and steps blog posts.
Lots of Golden Woofs

Love ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
That looks like a great park to get your daily workout in.
Stair climbing is a great form of exercise. Wish I had a park near here with steps like that
Hey Sugar!
Wow, what pawesome steps! George will be impressed and so am I. What a pretty park and I bet you and your mom really enjoy this workout! Fun and healthy!
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, COP
Step climbing is a great workout! And it looks like you found a beautiful place to climb steps!
Looks like a lot of fun! I love the hill coming back down!
I agree stair climbing is healthy, my aunt lived in a 2 story house and ran up and down all day, she lived a very long life and in her old age she would pop up the stairs while we huffed and puffed, she said it was because she did it every day all the time. keep climbing. i wish i could. i did not do it when i was young, and now the old knees will not let me. when i do the 20 steps at the library i have to do the one up, drag up next, one up and so on. these steps in the photos are beautiful, like you
Thats cool! Don't know where there are any stairs around here though. Lovies, Miss Mindy
Wow Sugar, never thought about going up and down them more than once have to try that one, they sure look great steps to 72, I think I just might start puting a count on the steps I go up. I've been on some sandy ones just today, you will see them soon.
Have a good week thanks for the link to my blog 😉 hope to be up to full posts soon, still busy this end 🙁
See Yea George xxx
What part of Lake Michigan is the beautiful place. We have a boat on Lake Michigan…docked in Michigan City. I would love to take Schooner and Skipper and we could walk the steps and visit the lake.

that is the best excercise. Nutty over here was walking up backwards yesterday and then stary complaining about something burning in her legs. Crazy

Wow, Sugar, that's about the most pawfect place for a walk!! Thank you for showing it to us!!
Those steps are beautiful! That's a park we've never heard of, but I'm glad you have access to it. We are known for climbing quite a few steps on our hikes at times, too.
Bunny
What a gorgeous park that is!
Our park doesn't have stairs, but the college I went to (which is right nearby) sure does. It's a private college, and they just made it so that the public has to apply for a "use permit" to be on campus, because people were cutting down trees and things to make four-wheeler trails!
I've been thinking about getting the permit, though, so Elka and I can do the stairs. I certainly never gained the "Freshman Fifteen" when I went there; I lost weight!
Hi Sugar!
Wow! Did you say 72 steps and you climb it more than once?! That's really pawesome. We raise our paws for your Mom, too! Piappies Mom is trying to be fit and is into running (you might as well say run-walking) and climbing stairs is her struggle at the moment. Thanks for inspiring her with this post.
Love,
Piappies Fudgie, Princess, Frappie, Mocha, Sugar, Wai-Pai, Wai-Max & Forgie (Tabby, too)
Hey Miss Sugar :o)
Pawsome pictures as always!
Wow! you are verrrrry fit if you can climb those HUGE steps 10 times… No wonder you looks so great at your Golden age :o)
Love and Smooches,
Neeko ♥
Wow! You must be getting in great shape. Since we live at sea level there are not many stairs for us to climb. So when we go to the beach we climb on all the giant trees that have floated ashore in the storms. Not as much fun as stairs, we are sure, but at least we get to climb!
Hugs and wags,Mistaya and Maggie..the pups by the sea!
That is such a good idea, Sugar. We will have to see if we can find some stairs and get the Momster busy climbing.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
That's a really neat place, Sugar. We climb too – out of bed each morning, onto the couch, and back into bed at night. It's exhausting!
AROOOOOF!
Boondocks & The Love Shack Pack
you and your Mom are certainly ambitious Sugar!
I would make it one round and that would be it lol!
It DOES look like a beautiful place!
We would have to carry our Mom up those steps!!
The Florida Furkids and Angel Sniffie
I can't imagine not walking with my dogs. Even though our range is limited, I try to make sure Mango goes up some hills. Sometimes I even go back and forth over the same part of our road to get his hill climbing work in.
Mango Momma
Great way to get exercise….need to get Mom going on this one!
you must be in great shape
