We are very honored to be part of Holli Pfau’s Blog Book Tour,
Pure Gold.
Pure Gold.
Pure Gold is an inspiring story to read. A Must Read Book! especially for those who rescues dogs and/or considering rescuing a dog.
Pure Gold is a collection of stories describing Holli’s life adventures with 6 Rescued Golden Retrievers,
Nikki, Bodie, Sophie, Tucker, Daisy and Chatter
Nikki, Holli’s first Golden and became her therapy partner as they visit patients in the hospital. Nikki was the inspiration for Holli to co-found a nationally recognized hospital program of animal-assisted therapy.
“…what Nikki lacks in size, she makes up for in heart.”
Bodie was returned from the breeder due to for being imperfect (due to his eye). His original name was just Bo but Holli found it insufficient and less fitting so she renamed him Bodie. Bodie along with Nikki were great companions of Holli and her husband Walter on their hikes. Just like Nikki, Bodie also pursued a job in therapy. Bodie became a good therapy dog and a big hit in the pediatrics department.
Tucker came along after Bodie passed away. Tucker’s owner relinquished him to the shelter due to overwhelming household. Tucker’s original name is Murray. Again, Holli felt that the name Murray does not suit him. Tucker had hip problems but recovered quickly and participated in hiking trails.
While Nikki was in her prime age, Sophie came to Holli’s life and became Tucker’s faithful companion.
Reading Daisy’s story reminded my mom of me especially my agility years. My mom also did talk to me often as Holli shared some of her conversation with Daisy. Reading the story of Daisy made it clear why she made the cover of the book. Oh My Furry Friend was mentioned on page140. We love Holli’s choice of song for Daisy, “It’s Not Where You Start. it’s Where You Finish.” We do agree on “ …it’s about having fun.”
Chatter struggled during her little life. Luckily she found her forever home with Holli and Daisy. Holli and his husband Walter dealt and understood Chatter puppy(ness). Lots of Golden Laughs on Chatter. Like Daisy, Chatter also did agility.
It did not take a long time for my mom to read Pure Gold. She read it in a plane ride. She sure had lots of notes while she was reading this book, lots of folded pages and underlined words/sentences. She cried and smiled while reading this book. She felt fine showing her emotions since the person next to her was reading The Art of Racing in the Rain.
All in all, Pure Gold by Holli Pfau is heartwarming to read.
I give 4 Golden PAWS and highly recommend it.
Holli donates a portion of the sales of Pure Gold to Golden Retriever rescue/adoption groups. You can read more about Holli on her website, puregoldbook.com
Holli currently lives in Durango Colorado with Daisy and Chatter.
He place is called Glad Dog Ranch,
“… we’re always going to have Goldens, and
they’re as happy and glad as dog can be.”
Holli provided us an extra copy of Pure Gold, for a giveaway.
However, while my mom read the book she was reminded of one of our Golden Bloggie Friend, Kim. Kim’s blog is Life at Golden Pines where she blogs about her life but mostly about her dogs, rescued Senior Golden Retrievers. Since we became bloggie friends, she rescued many many Senior Goldens. Some of them sadly has passed away … but Kim of course continues to rescue. Very appreciative of all the Golden Good Deeds that Kim brings to these Senior Goldens that we decide to give her our extra copy of Pure Gold. Kim totally deserves it.
Kim will also do a Pure Gold blog post book review (11/17) and she will provide a giveaway book. Visit Kim’s Blog, Life at Golden Pines. Say hello to the Golden Pines Gang and tell them that Sugar sent you.

Since we gave our extra copy to Kim, the publisher of Holli provided us another copy. We decided not to do a giveaway since we have another Golden Bloggie Friend that is so deserving to read Pure Gold. It’s our friend KT, who recently just lost her Golden Lady and adopted Golden Easton. Visit KT at KT Goldens and read more about his past Goldens, Say Hello to KT and Golden Easton and tell them that Sugar sent you.
Lots of Golden Thanks to Holli Pfau for providing us an advance copy of Pure Gold and being a part of Pure Gold Blog Book Tour. Golden Delighted and privileged to read/review your book.
It’s appropriate to end this book review post
with a quote from the book.
with a quote from the book.
While Holli was ill and asked by a nurse,
“Do you have guiding spirits that are a
source of strength and comfort to you?”
Holli responded “ Absolutely!”
“I call upon the spirits of four wonderful golden retrievers
who where so important in my life,
and they continue to be there for me from the other side.”
Lots of Golden Woofs
Wonderful review Sugar!! We LOVE the book!
Sounds great! Love your pictures, as always. 🙂
I read "The art of racing in the rain" and loved it. If this book is as good as that one it's a winner. I'll have to look for it.
Good Morning!! Yours is the first blog I came to this morning because I wanted to read your review–I've been flipping through the pages of my copy of "Pure Gold" because I really want to start reading it, but I've resisted because I'm saving it for next week while we're gone–But your review has me anxious to start it…Maybe just a chapter or two… 🙂
THANK YOU for your friendship and the nice things you said about 'Golden Pines.' And thank-you for thinking of me and giving me a copy of the book! I really cannot wait to read it!!

Hi Sugar – I thought I'd check out your blog after talking to you on mine. That book looks really interesting, and I love the pictures – especially the one of you reading the book. Nice to meet you. -Bongo
This will definitely go on our "TO READ" list! Thanks for sharing it with us. We know Kim and you're so right – she is totally deserving of her very own copy of this book (and so much more 🙂 Great review, Sugar!
The Road Dogs
Excellent review-this book sounds like a winner!
Many Golden thanks for thinking of us and turning us on to what looks like a fantastic book. Looking forward to reading it. I too think that the gang at Golden Pines will really enjoy and deserve that book. Kim's story today about Jake broke my heart. Many, many times I've been stopped on the street walking Lady or Easton; at some point during the conversation, as they fawn and Ooooo over the Golden goodness, it's always appropriate for me to say "can you believe someone didn't want him/her"? That pretty much says it all.
Terrific review buddy! Mom's going to put Pure Gold on her list. She only reads these sort of books at home, 'cause they sometimes make her teary eyed on the train.
gotta be good if you are recommending it
Benny & Lily

Great review Sugar! Sounds like a wonderful book. Two of my babies are rescues and other doggies I've rescued I've taken them to a shelter to be found by their parents or to find a furever home. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday! Your too cute in these pics!!!
That sounds like an excellent book! Too bad I don't have much time for pleasure reading. Boo! Most of my reading these days is textbooks for school. And the occasional blog.
Sugar! You are such a treasure!! This sounds like a terrific book and we will have to check it out!!
xoxo Chloe and LadyBug ps…we LOVE your photos here!!
