Many women are unleashing their potentials and becoming a part of a very competitive world we live in. It is wonderful to see that there are establishments and groups that support women’s work.
As many of you know, I inspired my mom to write a children’s book about one of my backyard adventures with my chipmunk friend.
Last October 23, 2011, she self-published Sugar’s Furry Friend.
It is very exciting as my mom fulfilled one of her dreams to be an author. My mom is learning a lot about self-publishing. Since mom does not have a publisher and distributor agent, she has to do most of the work particularly in promoting Sugar’s Furry Friend. This weekend we visited a local independent bookstore, Women & Children First.
Here I am outside and looking at my mom inside the bookstore.
I was a bit disappointed that I could not go inside with her.
Women & Children First is located in a North Side Chicago neighborhood named Andersonville. It is own by two women. There mission is to “promote the work of women writers and to create a place in which all women would find books reflecting their lives and interests.”
Such a terrific mission particularly for women writers. Women & Children First is one of the largest feminist bookstores in the country stocking more than 30,000 books by and about women.

I am Golden Happy that mom’s book, Sugar’s Furry Friend is available to purchase at Women & Children First bookstore.
Lots of Golden Thanks for all of our bloggie/FB friends who purchased Sugar’s Furry Friend. We appreciate your support and kind feedback.

Hi Sugar,
Women helping women is an amazing thing – alsorts of great things can happen. In fact my post today was about a woman in 1893 who changed the lives of all women in New Zealand. What was achieved here took other countries years to do – in fact your country didn't get around to it for 27 years, and now it is something many females take for granted.
I wish your mom every success, and I'm glad that she has found such a supportive place to promote her book. You are looking good outside the store promoting her book too.
Woofs,
Riley (and his mum)
That is a wonderful store! Sorry that Sugar couldn't go inside!
Thank you for sharing about this fascinating store.
HOWEVER I do think that as the STAR of your own book you should be allowed inside. I bet Lassie or Benji would not be polite enough to wait patiently on the sidewalk.
You are so down to earth, Sugar.
Hi Y'all,
Sugar I would have encouraged my Human to put my book someplace where I could go inside. I think is is awful that they didn't allow you inside! It's your book after all!
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
You have an amazing mom!
Too bad you can't fit inside a purse like me and be really quiet…then your mom could have brought you inside!
You must be so proud of your mom!
All of us women are amazing. (i'm actually a bit of a tom – boy, but definitely a girl!
How wonderful Sugar. I enjoyed reading your moms book about your adventures with the chipmunk. I'm going to do a post soon, but I've been so very busy lately. I'll get a post done soon though.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your mom. 🙂

Sugar I feel for you not being allowed to go inside. But, I'm so excited for your mom! Congrats to her! I know you are so proud of her. 🙂
That sounds like a wonderful store and my mommy wishes she could shop there! Congratulations to your mom! We're very happy for her and wish her much success!
I agree, Sugar, you certainly should have been allowed inside. But, I do love your pictures outside the store. Congrats to your mom.

hey Sugar,
We are so proud of your mom for fulfilling her dream, and doing it on her own. That is such a great accomplishment! And we are so proud of you for being the *star* of your very own book! And I agree that you should have been allowed in to promote your own book. Oh well, at least your mom is doing the work so you can enjoy your fans! :->

Goodness, that is such a cute book. Glad you put it in a book store like that. What a wonderful place. But it is disappointing that Sugar couldn't go in the store. Guess they have to have rules. Wish I had the money to buy that little book. Take care.
Well done Sugar and Mom….we are beyond thrilled to read that your book is doing so well. Your Mom is a very smart and dedicated lady and Sugar…you are quite an inspiration to her.
