Contemplating under the Banyan Tree located in Lahaina, Maui Hawaii, in front of the Lahaina Courthouse and Lahaina Harbor. This is the largest Banyan Tree in the United States.
The Banyan Tree was imported from India and was planted by Owen Smith in April 1873,
as a mark the 50th anniversary of Christian missionary work in Lahaina.
It used to be only 8 feet tall. Now, it stands over 60 feet high.
It has 16 major trunks in addition to a huge core.
It stretches over 200 foot area and provide 2/3 of an acre shades.
The tree symmetrical shape was created by caring members of the community.
The area is meant to be a gathering place where there are benches to sit. The Banyan Tree is known to be a place to cool down during warm temperatures. Nowadays, during the weekends the area is used by many local crafters to exhibit/sell their works. Lastly, birds love the Banyan Tree. As the sun sets, you hear hundreds of birds settling in the Banyan Tree.
If you plan to visit Maui, Hawaii, the Banyan Tree Park is a site that you must see
and be amazed on the huge size of this Banyan Tree. You have to feel the magical interlace branches and its a great place to take photos.
