For now, I’m saying good bye to my latest experience to ear infection. I took my final medicated pill last Tuesday, click here to see how mom hid it in my treat. I’m free of ear swelling and rash. Done with ear shakes, paw licking and especially itching (but i’m left with lots of ugly scabs).
Golden Happy for a good night sleep.
Due to my allergies, ear infections commonly occur. My family tries their very best to prevent the severity of occurrence by keeping my ears well groomed.
Grooming is a rewarding bonding experience between you and your dog. Ear Grooming is a once a week task and dog owners should not rely solely on your dog grooming services.
We can’t emphasize enough the importance of weekly ear grooming.
There are some dogs that manage quite well without human intervention.
In any case, we suggest that you check your dog’s ears every so often.
You have to make sure that there isn’t any irritation or blockage that could prevent them from hearing properly, as environmental factors can have unexpected effects.
But there are dog breeds like my kind that are more susceptible to ear problems.
It’s not a choice for me but to ensure safety, a weekly ear clean-up has been my routine.
Here’s our 5 steps process of ear cleaning …
1) On one of my bath post last November, I shared with you what mom use to clean my ears, cotton balls and/or precision q-tips. Using the q-tips helps get into the little nooks and crannies and gets all the visible ear wax build-up.
2) Ear hair grooming is part of the process. Cutting/eliminating ear hair is important. Mom uses a small scissor to eliminate unwanted hairs. I’m lucky there’s not much hair growing out of my ear canal but if there’s hair mom needs to use tweezers to pluck it. Excess hair by the ear canal can cause a build-up of dirt and fluff.
3) Not my favorite part, squirting the ear cleaning solution (formula from my vet) inside my ears accompanied by a gentle ear massage.
4) I get to shake shake shake my head …
5) Of course, I get some Tasty Treats as a reward.
Do you regularly clean your dog’s ear?
It takes lots of patience to care for your dog’s ear but it is worthwhile.
If you do it often your dog gets used to it, just like me.
Today, I am also saying good-bye to my medicated ear drops, which was squirted in my ear 2x everyday. Once again, my ‘balancing trick n treat’ was put into work in order for the squirting process to work well.
Lots of Golden L♥VE n Woofs

*If you are friends with me in FB, I shared last Tuesday that I was not feeling well again and been throwing up. I digested something that upset my stomach. Mom’s chicken n rice meal made my stomach feel better. Many Golden Thanks to your well wishes.*
Yes my MOM cleans my ears regularly. I don’t mind at all. The only thing my MOM does not like is I sometimes get a hold of the q-tip. I don’t know why, but I love them. She tries her best, but sometimes I get them. This has meant taking them from the bathroom trash. But now the trash can is under the sink. I am glad all your meds are done now and your ears are all better.
Sugar…I’m glad your ear infection is cleared up. Freedom, Casper & Nikki get their ears cleaned. They don’t mind it too bad.
Yay! So glad all is well again 🙂
Glad you are feeling better. We always get ear cleanings around here. Some weeks mom forgets, but she gets back on it right away. Your right practice and treats can make for an easy time. Hope you are done for while with the medicine. 🙂
So glad to hear that is over for you! Hope you have a wonderful Thursday, Sugar. XOXO
We get our ears cleaned once a week…mom found these awesome cotton buds for us they have a small rounded end for getting into the tiny grooves but also have a bigger bulb shape which stops them going to deep. We will take a photo to share.
Sugar bless you sweet Golden heart…we are so sorry you have been less than purrfect. Thank goodness you have once again defeated the nasty ear infection. Mom told me sometimes antibiotics upset her tummy too.
Lots of kitty hugs to my sweet B FFF
Madi
So glad to hear that icky infection has moved on!
Good news, Sugar I’m glad you are well again ;o) Earache is a bad thing. We use specially wet ear pads for cleaning my ears … I don’t like it…but I have always a “potato field” in my ears ;o)
Good riddance ear infection!
cleaning Jakes ears takes both of us to hold him down, he hates it, so he doesn’t get them cleaned as often as you do….
Sugar…. we are so much a like …. Banana’s are my favorites too! tail wags on clean ears. ~moose
Glad your ears are all better now. I have to clean Shiner’s ears all the time because she’s like a walking ear infection. I am giving her ear medicine right now too. They are getting better slowly!
So glad your ears and tummy are feeling better. We do routine ear cleanings…the girlz don’t seem to mind. Happy thursday. It just started to snow here–can’t wait til we can go out and do zoomies (probably not til tomorrow though 🙂
Little Bit has never had an ear infection and she’s allergic to so many things. I’ll count our lucky stars Sugar. I’m glad you’re feeling better.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your wonderful mom. 🙂
Thank goodness all that business is over. My Lily gets those too. The cleaning the ear part is fun though

Sugar, we are so glad you are over your ear infection! Our pawrents comb us every night. Yup, it is true. We have so much hair that they say we need it. Stanley gets lots of twigs in his furs too. Sometimes I fall asleep when mom is combing me!

I’m glad that nasty ear infection is gone! Hopefully, it’ll be a while before it comes back!
I hate ear infections — I am glad yours is gone and I hope it never comes back. Oh and thanks for the step by step for ear cleaning. My Mom learned alot.
Sam also gets nasty ear infections, Monty – not so much! Sam gets daily inspections for debris and to help prevent an ear infection from getting bad and weekly cleanings.

Because Bert spends all the time he possibly can in water, winter or summer and submerges himself completely, we are constantly watching for ear infectiosn with him. We do the weekly ear claening at the groomer plus every night we do a snivff and swab check. (My Vickie is a good Sniffer)
We watch for any reddness
Like you said dear Sugar, it is a constant battle.
Love
Bert and My Vickie
When I was young they were cleaned all the time but there is less of a need now. Peeps keeps and eye on them. Glad you are better Sugar. Have a terrific Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
I’m so glad your ears and your tummy are feeling all better, Sugar!
Glad to hear the ear infection is better, beautiful Sugar…Happy Thursday, sweetie…xoxo…Calle, Halle, Sukki
you poor baby! Hoping it is gone for good!
You always have such good information to share Sugar. I’m glad that your ear is better.
We hope it stays away for a long time. Lee and Phod who have pointy ears and wonder if that is why they don’t get infections.
I am glad to hear no more ear infection! Those are terrible! ~xo~
glad to hear your ear infection is all cleared up. me and my sister have never had a ear infection(paws crossed). we only get our ears cleaned when we have a bath. have a great day . sammy and lacey woof, woof
We are so happy that you’re feeling better, Sugar, and your ear is on the mend!
Love ya lots,
Mitch and Molly
Happy that the ear infection will be over soon, they are such a pain! By sugar! Your friends leah and kirby
I’m so glads your ear infections are gone Sugar, so are mine ~ yea! Yeah, Ma washes my ears out, butts I hate it. She even warms the solution for me, butts I still run under the table to hide. It’s no use, she usually always finds me. I do have ear wipes that I like, well, don’t mind so much!
Kisses,
Ruby
I’m so glad that you’re feeling better Sugar! We sporadically clean our dogs’ ears. We look and sniff, and if they don’t seem right, we squirt in the solution and massage. The dogs hate it… but it works…
Oh Sugar, glad to hear the ear infection is better. Henri got ear mites so I have to keep his ears clean, but it is a pain in the behind! I use q tips but he has tons of nooks and crannies to get at plus lots of hair. Not a fun job!
Hooray! We’re happy that infection is gone for the time being. We hate that squirty stuff in our ears. SHE uses baby wipes to clean our ears…so far we’ve been lucky, but Bella has started shaking her ears–could be the swimming.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Great news Sugar! Glad to hear you are well again. I don’ tend to suffer from ear problems but my Mum uses cotton buds (q tips) which are for babies when cleaning my ears out. These buds are a more defined pear shape and ensure that the user cannot go too deep into the ear canal area by accident. Golden woofs from CharleyChops
Yippee! so happy you’re over that nastiness Sugar…Great explanation of ear cleaning and I’m sure it helps many to see how you do it
Sugar so glad your ear infection and itchies are a thing of the past! Yay! 😀
Waggin at ya,
Roo
PeeS: Yes, Mom did wash my collar and it is even softer now 🙂
Good for you! My ears are a constant issue but we have it under control now. I have a ton of hair in the ear canal that has to be pulled out every 6 weeks or so but mom can’t do it alone so we have to go to the groomer. Mom is always monkeying in my ears and I get the ear cleaner once a month…I hate anyone messing with my ears but I know it has to be done…hope you stay infection free!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tips! My Labrador Maya doesn’t need ear cleaning. Her ears are always so clean, pretty, and odor free. I do have to keep an eye on Pierson’s ears, though. They seem to get dirtier easier. Any kind of grooming at our house, whether combing, teeth brushing, or nail clipping, is a good bonding experience. They tolerate the parts they hate because they know they get lots of love and tummy rubs afterwards.
So glad you are feeling better! We just had Breeze get over having both ears infected. She has big stand up ears and had to have drops put in. She wasn’t too impressed by that.
Good by infected ears!!!!
Yes, we are regular ear cleaners – we have to be or both dogs would get uncomfortable.
Vof Sugar! I’m Nero and want to thank you for your visit and lovely comment! This was a great post – I have had always problems with my ears. I even had an operation two summers ago and that’s why my other ear is now ‘down’. My mom is just now getting ready to start the cleaning. I don’t let her do it often enough – I really don’t like it but with lots of goodies we do it. Our Golden friend needs also very often ear cleaning – I guess because she loves to swim in the sea! Hugs from Nero
I’m so glad your ear infection is cleared up, Sugar. Thankfully, I’ve never had one and hope not too! That’s because I don’t like that stuff…maybe a whole bunch of treats would work for me. Or, maybe not.
