A good park is essential to have a joyful stroll/walk/run with your dog.
We are very fortunate that there are many parks around us.
Some are walking distance but a car ride is needed to go to our favorite park.
What makes a good park for and your dog? Here’s our 5 criteria…
1) The location need to be SAFE.
2) Ample SPACE of grass area and walking paths.
3) Assurance that the park is dog-friendly.
There are available materials cleaning up after your dog (bags and garbage cans).
4) Available resting areas/facilities and water fountains.
5) Natural visual barriers within the park such as plants, trees, hills, etc
One of my favorite park is called Gallery Park. It is about a 20 minute drive from my home but well worth it. My “4 Paws Up” photo was taken from this park. This is where mom and I do our walk/run interval workouts. Also, this is where I go running up-hill and down-hill.
Gallery Park is 142 acres, one of the largest park located in Glenview IL.
There are approximately 6 miles of bicycle/jogging and walking paths which encompass a man-made 45 acre lake. The lake and surrounding area provide habitat for wildlife such as blue herons, crayfish, snapping turtles and dragonflies. Its prairie like landscape provides the opportunity for hiking recreation and/or quiet reflection.
Gallery Park used to be part of a Naval Air Station which closed in 1993. It primarily operated as an aircraft training facilities as well as seaplanes then it was reconfigured as a Naval Air Reserve base. Do you see the aircraft control tower behind me?
We usually spend hours when we go to this park.
I always have an enjoyable Golden FUN walk/run.
Do you have a favorite park?

Hey ya Sugar! What a great Park Day visit you had! 142 acres is pretty big! I think Momma would like the quiet reflection time but I would like to climb on those guns!
all that fun and healthy to… you go Sugar
What a lovely park Sugar! It is very hard to choose a favorite park here… at least over in Austin anyways, there are so many! I like Zilker park though.
Morning Sugar, Thanks for sharing your park with us. You are always so pretty in your purple shoes. Thanks for joining the Hop.
What a pawsome park Sugar. I can see why it is one of your favorites. Happy Park Day.
Blessings,
Goose

Ps. I lovs your purple boots. I guess they are made for walkin.
Sounds and looks like a fun park! I love your purple Sugar! Happy Friday!
What a great park and so close to home…There’s a lot of adventure you can find on 6 miles of trails and I bet you explore all of it Sugar…Momz had a friend in high school who was actually posted there when it was still an active Naval Air Station, something she hadn’t thought about in years…I’m happy for you that now it’s a big beautiful park…Thanks for coming to Park Day!
That’s a great Park, Sugar. I love it. There are always the same ducks in the parks, first they were in my park, then I discovered them on Gooses Park and now they are in your park too :o)
That looks like a fangtastic park! I’m just loving seeing all the different parks my furiends get to enjoy. 🙂 Happy Park Day!
Our favorite park is just up the street, probably our favorite because it’s so convenient. It doesn’t have a water fountain or places for folks to rest, but they recently added a trash can. Sadly because it’s so isolated I think they are afraid to put much up there because of vandals. 🙁
Your park looks amazing! Can the dogs swim in the lake?
LOoks like a great park Sugar!! So much to see and do!! HAve fun at the park Sugar!!!

fabulous post! You wouldn’t believe how many parks in Michigan (near where we live) DO NOT permit dogs. It’s pitiful.
Hi, Sugar! It seems you are a good map reader! You must be a good guide for Gallery Park! We’d like to walk there, too! Thanks for showing us your favourite park!
Like your slippers! My human thinks it’s a great idea to wear slippers in the park. She is even thinking of getting matching slippers for the both of us! Woe is me…..
Wow, Sugar, that looks like a wonderful park. What a fun place to go. I guess we are a little behind times as usual, but why do you wear those cute purple socks on your feet Sugar??
Take care and have a great week end.
What a nice park Sugar. Interesting it use to be park of the naval reserve

Your mom sure takes good care of you Sugar. We have a wonderful park just around the corner from our home. Our Little Bit heads over there almost every morning.
Oh, yesterday I couldn’t leave a comment on your blog. I tried about a half dozen times too.
Have a woof woof day and weekend Sugar. My best to your mom. 🙂
That looks like a very nice park! We have quite a few close to us too, although I usually just walk the dogs around the neighborhood.
Ducks. Water features and ducks are very important in a park. 🙂
Glad you had such a great adventure in the park, gorgeous girl…Seeing your precious face always makes our Mommy happy, darling Sugar!…Have a fun weekend, dear friend…xoxo…Calle, Halle, Sukki

Best wishes Molly
Looks great Sugar! We have some favorite parks too that we drive too. Love your purple shoes. My sister is now wearing one on her paw that she is having issues with because of a degenerative nerve issue. I guess the color is the size 🙂 I am happy not to wear shoes! Happy staying fit!
Parks sure are fun! Our town’s dog park is fabulous and very close to our house, but we don’t get there as often as we should… Love your photos! Happy Friday!
Nice park there Sugar! You look like you’re having plenty of fun! Nice that’s so close by too!
This is a perfect park fur you to have brought us to for Park Day!! THANKS Sugar.
What an awesome park, ours are much much smaller than that and don’t have lakes or even ponds, which is probably a good thing since Boomer would spend all his time there!
Very cool Park Sugar!! Wows, there is so much to see and smell there! I wish we had something that cool!!
Thanks for taking us along to explore your Park!!
Kisses,
Ruby
This park looks beautiful, Sugar! I’m glad you have such a wonderful place and run and play and explore!
We’ve got some nice parks near my house too and my favorite is the one with lots of ducks and geese 🙂
Gallery Park sounds like a great place, Sugar. You gave some very good tips about finding a good park. We need to get the Momster behind the wheel to take us to one of our nice parks too.
Happy Weekend.
Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
What a wonderful park!! It sounds like there is a good amount to do and see. Most of the parks in my area require a small car ride, and I don’t complain; I love riding in the car!
