Golden LOVE Black and White photos. Black and White Sunday Hop is our favorite.
We are guilty of breaking the rule several times (4 times).
Mom said that she has good reason for it …
Here are the 4 Black and White photos we previously posted with splash of colors.
Many of you liked it especially last week’s May mini-Red Flowers.
Also, many of you asked how it was done. On the above photos, 2 were done with a simple camera setting and 2 were done through Photoshop. Can you guess which photos?
My mom’s camera has a photo effect setting wherein you can take a black n white photo with a partial color isolation (of yellow, green, red or blue). Check your camera and give it a try.
Another option is to use a photo editing program such as Photoshop.
Don’t have Photoshop?
There are many photo editing programs available on the web.
Our favorite is PicMonkey, it’s free and you don’t need to register to use the program.
Follow these Steps to Add Splash of Colors on Your Black and White Photos
1) Go to PicMonkey.com
2) Upload your color photo by selecting Edit A Photo.
3) Select the icon for Effects.
4) Click the Black and White tab (automatically converts your color photo to black n white).
5) Click on the PAINT icon and a small pop up Paint Menu will appear.
6) Make sure ORIGINAL is selected. Select which part of your photo you want to add color(s). Adjust the brush size as needed.
* If you make a mistake or colored something you did not want, select EFFECT on the Paint Menu. Go over the mistake color and adjust the brush size if needed.
* To be precise, use of the zoom option/indicator located below on the right hand side.
7) When you are done, click Apply and Save your photo.

Great photos. I have to admit, our community has such good photography you have inspired me to go get a better camera and get out there and learn to take better pictures. Hopefully you will see the results soon!

love that you shared picmonkey! I use that and I also use ribbet.com , there are a few others out there too but I think those two are the best for those of us that don’t have great cameras or Photo Shop!
Have a great Sunday!
We have used that Pic Monkey and like it a lot. Those are all great photos. Sugar, you just take good pictures. Have a great Sunday.

I love the splashes of color. That’s a nice tutorial for people to use with Pic monkey too.
We too are thrilled to have you share this tutorial with us. Mom knows HOW to do it in Photoshop, but doing it isn’t that easy. We are going to have her try picmonkey.
Thank you so much.

Great photos! Thanks for the tips!
My camera has that setting, too, but I’ve never tried it. Now I will! 🙂
Oh that’s great Sugar – I will look for this feature, when I buy my new cam. Have a golden sunday!
I love photos with a splash of color. Lovely!
Your mom is really good at doing this type of editing. Really good.
Have a woof woof day Sugar. My best to your mom. 🙂
I love the idea of adding a splash of color on a black and white photo! I am going to do this on the very next picture I take!
HAPPY SUNDAY!!
Like Taryn said, I’ve also done it differently on picmonkey, but I’ll have to try your way. Thanks for the tip!
Hmm… I use Pic Monkey but didn’t know you could do that. I will have to try it.
Sam
Thanks for the heads-up on PicMonkey and the great tutorial! I usually use GIMP for my photo editing, but it has a pretty steep learning curve and I’m only just figuring out the basics. GIMP is very similar to Photoshop, except that it’s free software, whereas Photoshop is pretty pricey. Selective colorization looks even easier with PicMonkey than GIMP, so I’m definitely going to check it out!
‘Course the first thing I need to do is take better photos!!! 🙂
Thanks for this info Sugar! We do like that effect so are going to bookmark this post and try it sometime!
Sooooo cool Sugar! You are one clever pups! BOL
Kisses,
Ruby
The old camera had that setting the new one doesn’t. Mommy had just discovered it and how to use it when she broke the camera.
Wow, cool! Thanks for the help! Can’t wait to be back home and try it out!
Thanks, Sugar! I’ll have to try that tomorrow or later in the week.
Sugar, there is no photo that is good enough to catch your beautiful smile… luvs Freya Rose Blossom X
Love the splash of color, gives the photo that special touch. Very pretty picture:-)
Love your selected color! Favorite is upper-right of top picture. 🙂
I didn’t know I could add color to a black and white photo on Pic Monkey! Thank you!
I use Pic Monkey all of the time, but never tried that feature before. Definitely love this blog post today and the pics of Sugar. Is there a photo where she doesn’t look absolutely beautiful? 🙂
Sugar, tell your mom that she is awesome! We had no clue how she did that and now we can give it a whirl! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your secrets!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Your pictures are beautiful, Sugar! Thank you for the black and white with a splash of color lesson!
Love ya lots♥

Rules are made to be broken, or so we’ve been told. We enjoyed your tutorial.
Thanks for sharing Sugar, looks like a great site, will check it out!
Thanks for the tutorial, Sugar. I recently found PicMonkey and like it but hadn’t tried your color splash but I will now – love your photos! Woof, er, ARROO!!
Beautiful!Nola
I love black and whites that have a bit of color in them. That is really cool that your moms camera has a setting to do that
Clearly your Mom is a genius Sugar. Tell her thanks for sharing all the picture taking info. 🙂
I love this, Sugar! Thank for the great tutorial. I’m going to give this a try.
Cool! I’m going to have to try that. Thanks for the info Sugar!
You are the most beautiful “rule breaker” we know! Thank you so much for the PicMonkey info. My mommy and I are in the slow learner group when it comes to things like this, so we definitely appreciate the tips. Have a Golden Black and White Sunday . . . with plenty splashes of color!
Your B&W photos with the pops of color have been so gorgeous. Mom has used PicMonkey, Have a great week. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Misty May, Mauricio, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
Thanks for sharing the secret to making such cool pictures!
I love that…such a fun look! That’s great that your camera can do that on its own without needing to use the editing software.
You did a great job on your photos Sugar. We do like that PicMonkey
Benny & Lily
Mama used to love Picnik and was very upset when she found out they were shutting down…but some of the developers started PicMonkey so she was all happy again! Actually her camera has a setting on it like your mom’s and it is lots of fun to use. The iphone has many different apps that allow for color adds and FUN!! Thanks so much for the tutorials Sugar!! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug
You look gorgeous as always Sugar. Thanks for sharing your secret.
I love a fellow rule breaker 🙂 Well, I’m more of a rule bender really. Good for you Sugar. I started using Lightroom a few months ago and love it. It’s very easy to do the selective colour in it. Before that I used to do it in Gimp. It’s a fun effect … although I was reading on a photography blog today how they think it’s being over done these days. What do they know, I don’t care, I like it and I’m going to keep doing it 🙂 I bet you are too!
I just spent 20 minutes messing around with PicMonkey! What a great site! Thanks for the tutorial. 🙂
Great tutorial!
I have Photoshop but it is pretty complicated. I might have to check out PicMonkey. Thanks for the tips.
I really love these tutorials – thanks for taking the time. I’m a huge picmonkey fan.
I think your splashes of colors is beautiful, I’m sure my little point and shoot camera does not have the effects settings that Mom’s does (remember I saw her camera!)
Thanks for sharing the tutorial, I need these step by step instructions because I’m challenged in this area. 🙂
