Is Your Dog Getting Noticed?

June 17, 2013

Sugar Wearing Purple PAWz: Sugar The Golden Retriever

On a walk, who gets noticed you or your dog?

In our case ME … especially when I am sporting purple PAWZ. We hear lots of giggles and see lots of smiles. Many times we had to stop, explain what it is and why I am wearing it.
Is it a good thing to be noticed ?…
Well it’s not, as our walks are getting interrupted.
It is not our intention to get attention. It’s the least thing we want but it’s seems to be impossible when it’s ME wearing purple PAWz and it’s very noticeable. We were surprise to know that many do not know of PAWZ. When we lived in the city, many dogs wore PAWZ. I understand city streets can be dirtier/unsafe for some dog’s feet. Living in the suburbs, PAWZ seems to be unknown to many dog owners.

Many asked WHY I am wearing PAWZ?
It is due to my allergies. When I lived in HI, the red dirt did not dwell well with my paws. Going to the beach and regular baths relieves me from itchiness. When we moved back last Feb and lived in the city, the rash I had in my ears also occurred in between my paws. Environmental change took an effect on my body. As my ear rash cleared my paws continued to heal. Also, the discoloring of my skin in between my paws started to change to its normal color.

Vet bills can be costly if your dog have allergies. Taking meds is not the option we want to take. Taking precaution and preventive measures are always in our mind. PAWZ is saving mom lots of vet bills. Since PAWz are mostly used in the winter months, many stores put them on sale like Target. Guess who got me some PAWZ? Val from MyGirlzGotPaws, who is moving to HI soon.
Very Sweet of them and Lots of Golden Thanks
PAWz Gift For Sugar: Sugar The Golden Retriever
Mom tried to test if it is good for me Not To Wear my purple PAWZ.
Well, first I had Lots of Golden FUN … my speed of running was the same.
Not really sure if it felt different not wearing my PAWZ.

When we got home, mom did an Extended Extra Extra Extra Rinse.
Can you guess what happened afterwards?
Lots of Golden LICKS … on the new couch, good thing it was covered.

Hi Sugar! We know exactly what you mean about being noticed but not trying to be. When we are out and the blind girls are wearing their Doggles to protect their eyes (or lack of) lots of people comment on them. Hiker also gets noticed when she isn’t wearing them since her eyes appear to be closed all the time. Of course, now that Azule is sporting a cone, that too attracts attention and the “what happened” question. We still think that you look pawsome in your purple boots!

    June 17, 2013 at 1:59 AM

We usually get noticed because we’re so doggone good lookin’. No actually, it’s because there aren’t many scotties around. AND most men are attracted to Roxy because she looks so different.

We’re happy that something so simple as your purple Pawz can keep your allergies from flaring up.

    XXXOOO Daisy, bella & Roxy

Our walks get interrupted too. But that’s because there is a bouncy uncoordinated puppy trying to gallop on the streets! 😉 Those purple paws look good on you Sugar.

We think your cute purple boots are much better than taking meds! Plus, they’re so stylish on you, Sugar 🙂 Woofs from Jeffie, Rudy and Rosie

I’ll bet you’ve helped other doggies whose parents didn’t know about PAWZ. I did not know they might be at Target! I’m going to check that out. We don’t use them for allergies, but I like to have them on hand.

Sugar you keep wearing your Pawz. If it helps you then that is what is important. I have been stopped a few times. Once a truck was driving down a road, they past me, turned around pulled over and got out to talk to my MOM about me. But things like that only happen once in a while.
    Blessings,

I wish I’d known about Paws a few years ago for our Becca – her arthritis made it hard for her to walk on pavement and the dog booties the sold back then were just too awkward. I think these would have given her just enough cushioning. I think ever without the booties you will get lots of attention Sugar – you’re just so darn pretty.

Hi Sugar, Thank you for explaining why you wear Paws; I know a lot of pups wear them in winter but wasn’t sure why you wore them all the time. Isn’t Val just the bestest friend a pup/gal could have!!! I think you should get paid for advertising them when you are walking. Hope you have a splendid Monday! I think people notice Hunter when we walk but usually I’m telling him to walk on or possibly not letting him stop when other dogs go by.

    Good morning Sugar,
I am so glad you are enjoying your PAWZ. I think we learned about those great booties about the same time. I was thrilled to find them at Target on clearance and made sure to stock up on them for our upcoming move to the islands. We will think of you when running on the “red dirt” 😉 We probably won’t be blogging much in the next few weeks, so much to accomplish before our move, but we will be checking in on others. have a golden day !!

  20. Finn says

    June 17, 2013 at 10:18 AM

Aw, better stick with your pawz then. I need lots of licks after some bad allergy days, but it is only a day here and there. Maybe next spring we should look into these. We get noticed too – people think I am still a puppy!

  21. emma says

    June 17, 2013 at 10:19 AM

We always get noticed because we are not like other dog breeds and mom walks us all the time and all over the place. People always stop and ask us questions about what kind of dogs we are, how far do we really walk, the other day someone told us how happy we always look. In Germany it was the same way, so we are used to it and it is kind of fun actually! Katie is still wearing her one purple shoe but because of the dragging her claws wear through pretty fast which is a bummer. No one asks about the shoe anymore since she has been wearing it for 2 months now. Have a mischievous Monday 🙂

Those look super cute on you Sugar!

My Mum is thinking of trying to get me to wear my red booties again, cos last week we just finished a therapy visit and were crossing the parking lot and I started dancing and Mum realized the surface must have been too hot for my little feet! She was right, but I so don’t like to wear the boots……..

    Wags to all,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

I too noticed your purple pawz and was going to ask you about them. Good to know they are out there. Allergy’s can be such a bugger and if they protect your feet and save on vet bills then here’s to you, glad you found something to work and now I can recommend them. Have a great Monday.

But I think My Vickie would prefer the noticeability of you than me right now.

I am one of the lucky goldens that doesn’t hae allergies (at least not so far) but My Vickie is remembering everything you post about, just in case.

Thanks beautiful for your wisdom and advice

Sugar I think you like nice with your Pawz 🙂 When I go for a run or walk I always wave and smile at people but I very rarely will stop to pet a dog or talk with the owner. I don’t like to be bothered when I am out and about so I try to extend the courtesy to others as well!

Sorry about your allergies – I’m glad the Pawz help!

Have a woof woof day. My best to your mom. 🙂

The girls definitely get noticed while on walks. People think it’s funny to see the big and small dog combination together. We think your Paws are great! We are currently in AZ right now and the ground is way to hot for Luna to walk on. I’m actually going to go out to see if I can find a pair for her.

  33. Flea says

    June 17, 2013 at 12:15 PM

Does your mom rinse your paws with white vinegar? We use that in stinky shoes and on things which cause rashes. And Sugar, I hate to say it, but I’m one of those people who will stop a dog walking to tell it hello. I can’t help it. I’d stop you in a heartbeat, unless you and mom were jogging. Then I’d know you meant business.

    June 17, 2013 at 12:35 PM

Sugar, what size PAWZ do you wear? I’d like to get them for Callie and Shadow, but I’m not sure what size to buy. I figure your paws and theirs are probably the same size. Ducky would never leave them alone at this stage in her life.

  36. Callie and Shadow says

    June 17, 2013 at 12:41 PM

We get interrupted, too, but we don’t mind that much. We like it when other humans stop to admire us and tell Mom how pretty we are. Sometimes, when we’re wearing our backpacks, we get strange looks but we don’t care because we’re helping Mom.

    Hi Sugar,
I know just what you mean, I get noticed all the time and meet new people all the time. It drives my peep nuts! Not sure if she’s jealous of all the attention I get… I don’t think its that… its when these people stop and feed me… it drives her mad!
How am I suppose to know not to take food from strangers?

  40. Taryn says

    June 17, 2013 at 1:59 PM

Walking in my own neighborhood, we don’t get much notice. But if we go into DC, we get tons of attention! We always joke that we need to put vests on our dogs with breed, dog’s name and age, and a little message “Yes, they are really supposed to look this way and, no, they are not mixes”

  41. BJ Pup says

    June 17, 2013 at 2:13 PM

Sugar, you look cute in purple PAWZ. In NYC pups wear them in the winter because of the cold cement and the salt when it snows. In the summer pups wear them because the cement gets so hot is burns paw pads.

Thanks for tip about Target. I’m going to stock up. Not sure what color. Purple is mom’s favorite color.

  42. Jackie Bouchard says

    June 17, 2013 at 2:28 PM

I would definitely notice a beautiful doggie like you in your purple pawz, Miss Sugar!

We used to get noticed A LOT when I had my 3-legged girl. She was gorg, too, which helped. People would sometimes stop their cars in the middle of the street to say how much they loved our happy, tripawd girl.

Rita doesn’t get too much notice. Some folks mention her cuteness, but depending on the situation she can be shy (or crabby) when she’s on-leash!

Oh yes, I gets noticed all the times! Peeps in their cars laugh at me all the time…don’t know why. I guess I sit funny or something! (or maybe it’s the slobber drippin’ off my beard…) BOL
I thinks your Paws are great Sugar. Ma’s gonna keep her eyes out for them!

The PAWZ sound great for your feet Sugar. It’s probably something I should try out with Shiner sometime as she has the same problem. That discoloration is usually saliva staining from licking. Most of the time caused by yeast infections, just like with the ears. Shiner doesn’t lick like she used to, but she still does some.

I don’t think I’ve ever noticed PAWz at Target before. I usually do check out their pet section too. I’ll just have to look a little harder next time.

It’s determinately Chester and Gretel that get notice on our walks. People rarely stop me to talk though. I usually just hear them giggling and commenting as we walk, run or hike by. I DID have a lady stop in the right lane of a busy highway to ask what kind of dogs they were though (we were on the sidewalk of the urban highway). I said Dachshunds…but you are going to get yourself in an accident. Sheesh.
