Shoe Dog Adventure: Finding The Right Fit and Shoe

June 28, 2013

Mom and I took a break from our workout as her foot is hurting. She said that her gym shoes are causing pain and she needs to get new ones. Mom’s gym shoes are fairly new (4months old) but it’s the wrong shoe type for her foot. This is the reason why mom decided to go to Road Runner Sports, a running and walking store. Road Runner offers a Shoe Dog Program where they provide analysis on your foot and assists you in finding the right shoe type.

Road Runner Shoe Dog Adventure: Sugar The Golden Retriever

I watched my mom as she went through her shoe dog adventure which is broken into 7 parts.

1) Basic Foot Sizing was that first step of her adventure. Due to her ankle injury, her one foot is larger then the other foot.
2) What’s the main Purpose of the shoe? It is very important to use the right shoe for running. There’s a big difference of buying a walking shoe vs a running shoe.
3) The Balance Board which helps determine what kind of arch you have. It also lets you know how you carry your weight on your feet. My mom did not expect the result that she has a high arc.
4) Running/Jogging on the Treadmill which helps analyze your stride. Mom’s run was video taped and she had to run barefoot.
5) Shoe Recommendation based on the 1)-4) tests.
6) Optional to use/buy Road Runner custom Insole Mold of your foot which you can place in the shoes you purchase.
7) Shoe Shopping Time
At Road Runner Sports: Sugar The Golden Retriever

Guess who helped mom? His name is Mike, known as Magic Mike.
Based on analysis there are only 3 brands that would be a perfect fit for my mom’s feet.
She was not pleased with all the (loud) colors so it took her a long time to decide which ones. She said gym shoes are not the most fashionable shoes to wear. Comfort and stability are very important and style should be the least priority.

She found the shoe style most similar to what she had. The new lace color was a bit loud so she switch it with her old laces. She plans to donate her old gym shoe once she switch the laces.

Road Runner Finding The Right Shoe: Sugar The Golden Retriever

Shoe Dog Adventure is great marketing for Road Runner Sports.  As a retriever dog I am very familiar with the word SHOE, on how it … looks like, used, and smells like too. I guess that is why they call the process a Shoe Dog Adventure.

Just love that the mascot they selected is a dog. I just wish it’s a Golden dog (me) and it will be called Golden Shoe Dog Adventure. Well, human feet are precious, like gold.

Shoe Dog Adventure is a great helpful program.  We hope Road Runner can attract many dog owners to find the right shoe and help fight pet/human obesity.

For a location in your city, check out Road Runner Sports website.
Lots of Golden Thanks Road Runner. My mom was totally sold on the excellent service and your “method” for finding the right fit and shoe. Road Runner Sports totally brought a top notch experience in buying a gym shoe.

Lastly, Lots of Golden Thanks for making your establishment dog-friendly (totally makes sense since Shoe Dog mascot is a dog).

Mom gives  Road Runner Sports 2 Thumbs Up and 4 Golden Paws from me.
Mom and I were not compensated for this post. We just wanted to share our experience shopping at Road Runner Sports.

Lots of Golden L♥VE n Woofs

How very cool! We wish we had one of those. The purrfect shoes are very important. Great review!

Pee Ess – that shoe dog box looks very kitteh-furriendly!

Wow that sounds like an awesome way to pick out shoes! I kinda like the bright colored shoe laces. Then again, I have some shoes with hot pink laces… I really need to find the black ones that are supposed to go with them 😉

My husband is a big fan of Road Runner! He has very specific needs too when it comes to finding shoes for his feet – but don’t we all?

Wow, never been through an exercise like that to buy shoes. Loving the mascot as well, though and would probably fall for it purely because it’s got dogs involved.

SHE went into the local ‘Athlete’s Foot’ and had to stride across plates that showed all sorts of colouring for instep, etc before shoes were recommended. SHE thinks they make videos of everyone so they can show them at their office parties for a laugh!

Glad your mom found the right shoe. My MOM agrees about the “bold” or “Loud” colors. She is a basic white shoe kind of gal.

Ohhh, we’ve been told we should go to this store too! I’m also having trouble with my current running shoes. Thanks for the reminder! I like the turquoise laces alongside Sugar’s purple booties!

Thank you so much for sharing Sugar! I think the analysis sounds great and more scientific than our local running store, where the salesperson just watches you run up and down a hallway. They aren’t dog friendly either. I will check to see if that store is in our area.

Hope your Mom’s foot heals soon, my Mum’s foot has been giving her trouble for 9 weeks now. To be golden honest, I am fed-up of having to have shorter walks. Next week she starts physio, whatever that is (golden puzzled look) and then she reckons all will be well. Golden hope so.

Hi Sugar, I learned a lot hearing about this store; thank you for your recommendation. Sounds like a store we have here. Since I know I have foot problems, it would be helpful for me to go too. Even though the shoes are so expensive, I know it is worth it to have them fit right.
    Have a golden Friday.
    Happy Dance,

Little Bit hates these shoes. We tried. She just didn’t like them. I know it takes time to get used to and we wanted them for when it’s hot out.

Have a woof woof day Sugar. My best to you mom. 🙂

Not surprising there is no Road Runner Shoe dog store in my state. I’m glad mom found the perfect set of shoes, it’s one of the most important things when you are exercising. If your foot doesn’t feel comfortable you will be unlikely to wear it which means little to no exercise.

    Have a golden weekend Sugar!

Of course, there is no store in MN, come on! Oh well, not sure if I am allowed at the store mom usually buys shoes at. Katie used to go with mom to get running shoes in Germany. That food analysis is very important and mom wouldn’t buy shoes without having that done. Happy working out! Emma

Sugar we don’t have a RoadRunner store hear us but we do have a FitNiche which does the same thing…Momz & I went there and she had them check out her feet…Your mom’s new shoes look esactly like the one’s we bought…They’re from Brooks and they’re made a huge difference…The Brooks last fit well but she had to try out three different styles before she found the one with the right arch support level…We found everyone really helpful and cooperative in exchanging shoes till we found the right one…The right shoes make a huge difference

I’m glad mom found the right shoe. You could ruin your feet with the wrong type. I hope she can run and her ankle won’t hurt. Sugar, you learn a lot when you get to go with mom and you are sooooo nice to share it.

In the meantime your purple PawZ look really great on your feet.

Yesterday, I wore a pair of new sandals and within three blocks, they had rubbed both feet and I could barely make it home with BJ. I didn’t even wear them into the apartment, I threw them in the compactor room. Within an hour someone had taken them. In the meantime I hope the Neosporin will heal my bloody wounds.

    Hugs and Licks, BJ Pup

This sounds like such a great store! Unfortunately there aren’t any here in New England. It’s really too bad, because I need to buy some running shoes, and don’t know where to start. You and your Mom look very stylish, with both of you in your special shoes/boots!

We’re a little disappointed to see that your mom removed those lovely aqua laces from her shoes. After all, you have bright purple shoes. Our mom’s favorite colors are purple and aqua, and she has some lovely athletic shoes that are just those two colors. Hope walking is now more pleasant for both of you.
