With the warm weather, many personal trainers bring their clients to a park.
We see many of them working out with various fitness accessories.
My mom is my pawsonal trainer and I am her workout buddy. We decided to accompany our morning walks with some workout fun and brought our own fitness accessories. Well, I can say mine is really fun. It is the Kong Bounzer. From my WW photo yesterday, many of you commented that is HUGE. Yes, it’s a HUGE over-sized KONG. It is made with medium soft rubber that it compresses when grabbed then bounces right back to its original shape. A Kong Bounzer dog toy replicates a (for human use only) Kettlebell, a cast iron weight that looks like a cannonball with a handle. A kettle bell is a tool used by Russian strongmen for training/competition. Kettlebell is becoming a popular fitness accessory that you can find in many gyms.
Our Workout Plan is while mom does her Kettlebell workout, I’ll play fetch with my Kong Bounzer. First, mom had to modify the handle. Even though mom can use the Bounzer handle to throw it and I can grab it, for safety and trouble free long distance fetching, mom attached a nylon string using a square knot at the top.
Okay I’m ready … 1st I get into position: mom’s side where I sit and wait till she throws the bouncer. When I’m just too rowdy and excited I stand about 5ft from her then she throws it. While I fetch my Kong Bounzer mom does her Kettlebell swings and she stops when I return and drop the Kong Bounzer. I Woof! Woof! at her to go again …
Believe it or not we do this about 10-15 minutes. I can go longer but mom says we have to do other workouts (which will be sharing in the coming weeks).
Here’s a snippet 14sec video of my short distance Fetch Play with my Kong Bounzer.
Did you know? …
that a dog burns about 38kCal from playing 15 minutes fetch? For humans a kettlebell workout builds strength, cardiovascular endurance and burns about ~250 calories (10lbs/15minutes)
If you plan to tailor your workout/fitness accessories with your dog, here are
5 Safety Reminders Tailoring Your Workout With Your Dog
1) Must know your dog’s Capacity then decide what kind of workout you can do together.
a) Intensity – Depending on your dog’s age, breed, body and/or mental energy, your dog’s intensity requirement vary. I am a senior dog but I have lots of energy and with safety in mind I do require high intensity activities.
b) Interest – Every dog has different interest. It varies and don’t assume same breed will have the same interest. On our last post about swimming. Many have told us that some retrievers do not enjoy being in the water. We also found out some retrievers do not enjoy fetch play.
2) Make sure to do your workout in a Safe Place wherein you and your dog feel comfortable. This is important especially if your dog is off-leash. Basic Commands of sit, stay and come, become very handy and your dog must know these commands to be safe.
3) Choose the Right Time of day to work out with your dog. We suggest morning hours are the best time for outdoor workouts.
4) Don’t Misinterpret your Dogs Behavior. Slowing down and sitting/lying down often are a good sign that your dog is tired. Many might interpret this as stubbornness. Always allow a rest time to hydrate and relax.
5) Have FUN! Turning a regular dog play into a workout for you and your dog is FUN. Be Creative on your toy choices and mix it up to make more varied experiences for both of you.
I am a retriever dog that can be toy obsessive and enjoys carrying a toy.
I found a silly way to carry my Kong Bounzer.

We found you from Pawsitively Pets, and thought we’d come over to say hi!
That Kong looks like lots of fun, Sugar!!
The Golden Gym – can I be a member too ?
THAT looks VERY MUCH FUN !! We like how your mom fixed the rope to meet your needs.
Oh Sugar, those are such good pictures of you and that looks like a really fun work out.And thanks for all those safety reminders. They were terrific. Take care.
We let Little Bit so as much or as little as she wants. We don’t push her at all. She’s our baby and if she just wants to watch us then that’s what she does.
Have a woof woof day Sugar. My best to your mom. 🙂
Looks like you are having a blast! That would not be my work out choice but as you say, every dog has his thing. We just returned from my favorite walk on the “bunny trail”. Mom says I walk twice the distance that she does because I am going back and forth off road critter hunting! Now time for a nice nap after breakfast 🙂 Happy Thursday!
Wow that’s an awesome toy! And I love how you use it to keep fit, and help your mom too! Thanks for those great tips!
That looks fun! Thanks for sharing those tips 🙂
My dogs are definitely my workout buddies! I credit them with keeping me slim well into middle-age. Thanks Wilson and Jimmy!
Sugar…you sure do have a lot of energy!
🙂
Great tips! Thanks for
sharing. It’s important for all of us to enjoy staying fit.
What a great workout!! And I loved the tips of doing a workout with your dogs. Always game for new ways to try and stay fit.

How did you run and not trip over? That sure does look like fun. Mom has set up our agility equipment in the backyard again so we are enjoying some added exercise now the warm weather is here.
My Mum and I have been enjoying games in the local woods this week, as summer has finally arrived after terrible flooding in our area. We shall be trying out the kettlebells now too BOL!
It looks like you had a great time! It’s important to help our humans keep fit.
You sure do look like you are having a blast Sugar!!!!
Your mom is a really good fitness trainer and has lots of good information. And we love that pic of you smiling!

That is a fun workout sugar. We will get your book now in a minute. Sorry we have been slow getting round to it but it is chaos as they are knocking seven bells out of the house next door which is being renovated and we have to keep going elsewhere for some peace and quiet. We will do a review too. Have a terrific Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
Those are really great tips Sugar. I like how mom is incorporating her workout along with yours. I personally love the kettle bell, but have to use a much smaller weight.
That looks like a grreat workout for both of you!
That was fun seeing you in action Sugar! If you were our mommy’s workout partner, she might do the kettle bells longer than she does!
I can tell how much you really enjoy your big Kong! I bought the smaller ones for my boys, but they don’t really care for them. I think it’s because it’s heavier than what they’re used to. Because they’re little dogs, they only like small and lightweight toys.
It looks like you got a real workout!
Great post, Sugar. Mom wishes we would all play fetch because she thinks the Bounzer would be a great way for us to get some exercise. Thanks for sharing.
Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
When Mom had two little dogs they loved to play Frisbee, and they always played at least once a day. We like to chase and play with the laser light with our mom. Mauricio, however, will fetch and retrieve. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
Sugar that is a pawsome idea…Momz does her kettlebell thing but she never included me…we have to try that now (but with something smaller than that Bounzer…that toy is bigger than I am BOL! )
For a minute there, I was really hoping it was already Friday! Great FitDog post! You look like you are loving that Sugar!
Great advice! Thanks!
Oh Sugar, that looks like so much FUN! Your mom really knows how to have a good time!
My dog Ace would LOVE that. He is a fetching nut, no matter what the toy is. But that Kong toy sure looks like a lot of fun. Great pics!
Chasing that HUGE Kong looks like a blast! I would love it if they had a smaller one HA HA. I may be a pug but I love to chase and fetch.
hugs
Greta
Bailey & Hazel too
Great tips Sugar and loved your fetch video! You’re a very fast runner 🙂
I cal tell by your smile that you really enjoy your workout with the Kong.
I’ll fetch once or twice and then when Mom throws it, I look at her and basically tell her to fetch it.
Hugs and Licks, BJ Pup
It’s winter here. But come summer, we plan to do the same. Hopefully Roy will enjoy fetch and running around as much as you do Sugar. – Shefali
Really fantastic tips!
looks like you’re having a ball Sugar!! Thanks for the helpful list of how to keep safe. Your friends, Charlie and Hannah
Great idea Sugar, looks like you’re working out AND having fun 🙂
Love the kettlebell analogy. Let’s teach Sugar to do the American Swing and the Turkish Get up!
A Kettle Ball Kong….who would have guessed. Look like it’s 3 times the workout of a normal fetch game……Go Sugar
Wow! That Kong Bounzer looks like a lot of fun! I wonder if it’s too big for Rocco. I think he’d like the bounce!
Your pals,
Diane and Rocco
Hi Sugar… You’ve got some great Golden moves… I wuv you… <3
Great fun and great tips! Maya can only do about 10 minutes at a time. Pierson could probably do more, but he gets distracted easily. There are, after all, lots of birds, bunnies, and squirrels to keep an eye on. 🙂
Love it…so cute! Looks like a great time playing fetch and also a great way for people to alternate and get their own workout in. Love the modified rope handle…great idea.
