I am a Golden Dog that loves water and enjoys swimming. I had the best time last year as I was able to swim in the ocean. As I said before due to my allergies, swimming in a lake is not an ideal condition for my skin. It was recently reported that Chicago’s lake is a haven for Bastomycosis? Click here to read more about it.
I was very fortunate that mom found Splash Dog, an indoor doggy swimming facility. The facility’s pool is typically used for rehabs but many dogs go for a fun swim, like ME.
The pool is also heated 88-92 degrees.
Last week was my 4th swim.
I’m more familiar with the facility and the process of my swim time.
As I arrived at Splash Dog, I can sense that mom has a plan.
Swimming in the ocean is so much different from swimming in a pool especially if the pool is small. I don’t have much freedom on how far I can swim. I was taught when I retrieve my water toy I had to go back to the pools resting area. I really don’t need that much time to rest.
I Woof Woof a lot once I drop my ChuckIt water toy.
What’s my mom’s plan to keep me in the pool while I hold my ChuckIt toy? Mom used the “Turn Around” command, which is considered an advance dog command. I’m familiar with the “Turn Around” command as a learned it as a young pup. During my swim, “Turn Around” voice command was used and mom walked the edge of the pool to guide me on my turns. Check out my swim video as I learned “Turn Around” command in the pool.
I swam for about 30 minutes, just think how many “Turn Arounds” I did?

SUGAR
Wow. Very cool, Sugar!
That looks like great fun Sugar. We are going to guess 15 turn arounds. That is probably really good exercise for you. Take care.
you are soooo smart… looks to me like you did alot of turn around and this is so good for your heart.
You are some swimmer Sugar. Swimming is a great way to exercise without stressing the joints. The movement in the water also provides a gentle massage, which can help blood flow and healing.
You probably burned around 100 calories in that 1/2 hour also. That means you get a slice of bacon or two!
Oh Sugar I would love to jump in there with 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful July 4th have a fantastic weekend xx00xx
Mollie and Alfie
OMD – you just got cuter Sugar, and we didn’t know it was possible. LOVE your swimming video 🙂
Wow, that looks awesome. What a fun time.
Dang, Sugar! You are an awesome swimmer. No doubt, you are a retriever of the highest order. So glad you are getting time in this wonderful facility.
You are an exquisite swimmer Sugar. IamMaxRoper doesn’t believe in getting wet, much less swimming! Have a great weekend
What a fun and cool way to stay fit Sugar. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
They should have Dog Olympics. You certainly would win a gold metal. in any swimming event. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Hey Sugar!
Wow, you have your own doggy pool! That’s pawesome and you look wonderful in your yellow vest. Great job swimming like a natural water dog.
Speaking of water, I had my Dad mail your Water Mania prize box this morning! Sooooo watch your mailbox!
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, COP
Wow, Sugar! That is impressive! I guess it is like humans doing laps! Great job! I guess it doesn’t bother you wearing the vest either?
Oh what a good idea. I need to teach this to my guys since they are always in our pool!
Too bad the pool isn’t round, then you wouldn’t have to turn around! We had fun watching you even though we got dizzy! 🙂 You’re a great swimmer Sugar!
OMCs Sugar…I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED your video. Your doggie paddle is poetry in motion
Hugs Madi your BFFF
Very impressive Sugar!
Wow. Looks like you were really having fun. You’re a very smart golden to have learned the “turn around” command. And you knew to turn on both directions.
Hugs and Licks. BJ PU ( a non-swimming dog )
You really do the most amazing things Sugar. Too cool.
Have a woof woof day. My best to your mom. 🙂
Wow! I wish we had one of these facilities in our area! The collie will swim in the ocean near our house, but they don’t seem to like the salt water.
Sugar, you are a wonderful swimmer! We wish we could swim with you!

You are such an awesome swimmer Sugar! Great job on the turn arounds too. The pool looks like so much fun 🙂
You sure look happy and relaxed in that water Sugar! My exercise would be running away from the water!
Turn Around is a great command… something Boomer and Dottie need to learn!
Great job Sugar!!!

Wow, Sugar! At this rate you’ll live to be a hundred!
Excellent turns!
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
looks like the perfect spot to keep cool
PSSSS love your new header
That looks like a lot of fun. So are they talking about Lake Michigan as having the Blastomycosis? I had not heard that. Definitely something to remember.
Great job, Sugar! Maya & Pierson know turn around on land. I should try it on them in the water. :0)
Great photos and video, you are looking like you are having so much fun. Sure glad you have that pool to swim in! Have a great weekend.
Oh, you are soooo smart Sugar! You make that look like so much funs, even ‘I’ feel like jumpin’ in with you!!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
You’re just as good as that Olympic swimmer, Mike Phelps!
Lookin good, Sugar!
You’re an inspiration Sugar! I’m thinking of enrolling Charlie in some swimming, because it’s gentle on the hips and he needs to lose weight and he LOVES to swim.
Sugar, you’re an awesome swimmer! I didn’t think you could get any cuter, but swimming around with that bumper in your mouth is just the cutest. I think swimming would be great exercise and fun for the wieners, but they’re not big fans of water… they act like bathtime is the worst thing in the world. It would be great to find a doggie pool to introduce them to swimming gradually.
You are so smart Sugar! You put Chester and Gretel to shame with your commands. I am so glad you found a place to swim that doesn’t bother your skin.
Sugar, you’re making me want to go for a swim with my Smoosh! He loves the pool. You’re a much better swimmer than he is, though. 🙂

You sure look like you’re having a great time Sugar!!
Love swimming too – that looks like fun and you look like a good swimmer! We had so much rain here yesterday, our park was like a lake.
Great job with the turn arounds, Sugar! Swimming looks like fun. I’m glad your mom found a pool in your area. One of our dog friends is rehabbing at a similar facility after leg surgery.
