I’ve been a Senior Dog for many years.
Turning 12 this month was very special.
My Golden White Face says I’m old but I have a Young Golden Play Attitude like a pup.
Many Goldens develop a not so likeable sickness when they reach their senior years.
I am very fortunate that I am a Healthy Senior Golden.
5 Things That Contributed to my Healthy Happiness
1) Diet/Food
Every dog owner need to be educated about good proper nutrition. My mom continues to educate herself especially with my allergies. For Senior dogs, having a proper nutrition is very important. For me, it contributes to keeping me young and active.
2) Grooming
Keeping in tune with your dog’s appearance needs is critical to have a healthy living. I get my ears cleaned on a weekly basis which helps a lot with my allergies (eliminates any reactions). I’ve never gone to the vet for teeth cleaning as mom brushes my Golden Teeth.
3) Play/Games/Tricks
I continue to do playful activitiés. I am a retriever and enjoys a play of fetch. Even indoors, my mom continues to stimulate my Golden Mind with games and teaching me new tricks. Remember, no matter what the dogs’s age learning new games/tricks is a possibility.
4) Duty/Job
I Golden Enjoy doing something … I am a retriever and was taught many things to be helpful. My favorite is retrieving things so when circumstances arises I assist my mom.
5) Living The Golden Moment
My mom says I gave her the gift of living in the present moment. I provided her a different outlook on what’s around us and to See its Beauty.

Great post, Sugar! You are a senior role model and we wish you many more happy golden years! My sister, on the other hand, ate something disgusting again and is now sick again. Hopefully she will feel better later today. It just doesn’t pass as fast as it used to, but we are patient with her. You seem much more sensible!

Great advice Sugar! You definitely are one healthy pup!
You are right, Sugar. Good advice. You’re the best looking senior I know.
Great post, Sugar. Your young pup attitude reminds me very much of my Tynan.
You’re a great ambassador for active, healthy, happy senior living, Sugar! Maybe you “ambass” (that’s a verb, right?) for years and years to come!
Sugar, your Golden White face is beautiful and you are aging gracefully. Mom is taking good care of you.
Sugar, you and your Mom are an inspiration to me! Callie and Shadow are only 3 years younger than you are, but their mild-to-moderate hip dysplasia and arthritis slows them down a bit on really hot, humid days and cold, damp ones. But they are both happy girls. Having little sister Ducky in their lives has added some pep to their step. And, now that all three girls are off the dry, processed, kibble, they are certainly enjoying their meals a lot more! And they love the layered frosty paws, especially the strawberry ones! Without your Tasty Tuesday blog hop, I’m not sure I’d ever have known how easy they are to make.
Your so precious. yes yes live in the moment.
Everyone can learn from this post! Live in the moment! 🙂 Your always beautiful, Sugar!!!
Great list for for staying healthy and happy. Love #5. I think your smile conveys that message beautifully.
Sugar great post…i have two senior or as we call them pensioner pups.10 and 11 and they may be greying and taking a little longer to get up out of bed…much like myself..but they are still puppies to me,they have a healthy diet, lots of mental stimulation, games, and in summer swimming in their pool or our dam..we appreciate every moment with them, they are aging gracefully and as they do we learn to take time to enjoy our life too..age does not stop love or fun or curiosity it just makes it all the more special.Hugs Fozziemum
Brilliant post!
You are one of the most active senior doggies we know Sugar.
the brown dawgs
Sweet! I saw a caption on a photo of a senior dog recently that reminded me of Sugar. It said, “My face may be white, but my heart is golden.”
