Many of you know that we had a road trip to Atlanta to attend Barkworld 2013. It was a long drive. We had many stops to go for potty breaks and stretching our legs. On the way to Atlanta, we quickly stopped on several chained burger/coffee food establishments that were not dog-friendly. They do offer an outside dining patio but it was not shaded and the cemented area was a bit uncomfortable to rest. One reason why mom prepared us for where to stop on our way back home to Chicago. She made a plan for us to stop at Cracker Barrel establishments, “known for providing a friendly away from home atmosphere in an old country store and restaurant.” Cracker Barrel’s mission is “to please people.” Everyone that walks in the front door of Cracker Barrel gets a warm welcome and a good country meal at a fair price.
Cracker Barrel does not allowed dogs inside their shop/restaurant. However, all Cracker Barrel’s have a large covered patio with rocking chairs and wooden benches. It was a comfy area for me to hang/rest. My peeps ordered their meals to go and ate it on the patio.
Our first stop was Cracker Barrel, Tennessee where my peeps ate some old style country breakfast. Mom was so hungry that she forgot to take photos of her breakfast. According to her, she had a delicious corn grits. How about ME? I had breakfast when we left Atlanta so I was full. I was actually still sleepy and decided to just hang out and let my peeps enjoy their meals.
We stopped in another Tennessee Cracker Barrel for a quick potty break. It was packed by Sunday church goers and we were unable to take photos.
At lunch time, we arrived at a Kentucky Cracker Barrel. The place was packed too but we found a bench to rest while we waited for our food. There were so many children that petted me. I received great compliments from their parents for my PAWsome behavior with them. Oh! my peeps enjoyed a Delish grilled catfish with a side of baked sweet potato and brown rice. Since Cracker Barrel is also known for their Fried Apple, they have lots of fresh apples too. So what did I have for lunch? Fresh Nicely Cut Sweet Apples. Again, photos are just ME as mom was so hungry that she forgot to take photos of her food.
The last 2 Cracker Barrel we stopped were located in Indiana, 1) Scottsburg 2) Hobart which is known to be a friendly town. We stopped for potty break and stretch our legs. Golden Nice that there were many grassy areas in the Cracker Barrel locations we visited.
Golden Shout Out, if you are on a road trip with your dog and looking for an alternative quick serve food stop, we recommend Cracker Barrel. There were also lots of neat stuff in the Cracker Barrel shops.

We have one of those down the street from our house kind of. Maybe 10 minutes away. I’ve only ever eaten there once. I’d love to go back again sometime though.
Hey Sugar! Our peeps stop at Cracker Barrel whenever possible!! When we are on the road with the RV, sometimes Dad needs to stretch his legs and we need to take a potty break and the Cracker Barrel parking lots are HUGE and there is always lots of nice grass!! We just love their food!! Mama went there last year on her birthday! Thanks for giving a shout out to one of our most favorite restaurants!! We just love all the pictures of you at Cracker Barrel Sugar!! xoxo Chloe and LadyBug
My peeps love love love Cracker Barrel and the peeps plan many trips around CB stops.
Sugar you had quite a nice road trips
Hugs madi your BFFF
Great photos, Sugar! We love Cracker Barrel, too. It was a real life saver when we were moving cross country 🙂
I’ve got a dog and I find it’s often impossible to take it out anywhere and certainly not in a restaurant. Obviously its fair enough but it’s also lovely to go to a place that puts a little water bowl outside and that is welcoming!
Thanks for sharing that info about Cracker Barrel. Mom said she is gonna keep that in mind. She also said to tell you that she LOVES grits and she LOVES brown rice and SWEET POTATOES too! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
What a nice idea to have meal together with you on the patio. have a tasty tuesday, Sugar!
What happy photos! Cracker Barrel is the absolute last place I’ll stop on a road trip. Not sure, anymore, why. You make it look so inviting. I think I just don’t like the food. But if the grits are good, it might be worth stopping next road trip. Hmm …
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a Cracker Barrel. Ever since I moved, the closest is about 30 minutes away. It was really nice of them to let you hang out on the patio. Perhaps they should consider a pet friendly outdoor dining area… inspired by Sugar! 🙂
great idea, i would not have thought of it…
THAT is a super idea. Cracker Barrel is EVERYWHERE… Glad to know that you enjoyed them.
Cracker Barrel was well worth the wait

It’s good to know Sugar, I never thought about the Cracker Barrels when we were traveling last month!
Lovely pictures Sugar! Very glad that you and your family had a safe (& tasty) trip home. Mom loved seeing you and your family at Barkworld! {{hugs}}!
We go to our cracker barrel every sunday morning for breakfast – it’s our little tradition
Sugar,
First…BOL!!! We can believe your mom was so hungry but so much so that she forgot to take photos?!? I don’t believe it! She takes pictures of EVERYTHING.
Second, Ma says she did not realize you could order “to go” and eat on the porch. If she had known that, we would be stopping at all Cracker Barrels too. Now that we know…watch out Cracker Barrel because here comes Oz.
And as always…super Golden photos of you, Sugar.

Traveling with dogs on the road can be difficult, but it is good to know Cracker Barrels are somewhat dog friendly.
I went to a Cracker Barrel once. The food was awful. Awful. They don’t have them on the West coast and now I know why. I’m glad that Sugar had a shady place to be though.
Have a woof woof day Sugar. My best to your mom. 🙂
Loved the photos! Great to know that there are grassy areas to roam around and sniff while the peep’s get their food. I do not like the ones with hot cement, its just to hot.
Maggie
Sounds very pet friendly Sugar. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
Good roadtrip tip! We may be driving to Florida in a couple months, and I know last time we saw lots of Cracker Barrels on the way. Thanks!
We kitties have never been to Cracker Barrel, but our humans like to ride their tandem there for breakfast. Mom says that they have had the best breakfast this summer…pancakes with blueberries and blackberries and raspberry syrup. The bike ride is about a 30-mile round trip. Though their daily ride is 36 miles, they say they can’t eat at Cracker Barrel unless they ride there, ’cause it is too many calories. Dad likes to ride there ’cause then Mom can’t shop. She always finds really good things in the store. Sugar, your mommy was so smart to schedule regular stops there for your return trip! Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Your mom is so smart, Sugar. I never would have thought of that one. We aren’t going anywhere for awhile, but when we do – cats and all – I will let you know how the kitties liked it. Of course we will tell them Sugar sent us!
Thanks for the tip. If you are ever in Ocean Springs, MS check out Bayview Gourmet, they has a nice deck for your peeps to eat on while you sit by them and relax and they even keep water bowls on the deck for the doggies that come to visit. And our waitress brings me & Tuiren fresh water when we drop in. ~Fenris
We don’t have any Cracker Barrels in our neck of the woods but we’re glad there were plenty along your route so you could take shady breaks!
Mom loves to go to Cracker Barrel. She always wishes she had a nice porch like they have with lots of comfy rocking chairs. We are so happy your Mom was able to find somewhere comfy for you and good for them.
Woos – Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Kudos to Cracker Barrel and their pawsome rocking chairs! Great pics!
YUM! Yes, those barrels do look a little cracked Sugar!
We just long for the day when peeps are responsible pet owners and train their pups with manners so that we can go more places! Do you think our dream will EVER come true??
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
I have never been to a Cracker Barrel. The closest one I know of is in Massachusetts but we have never stopped there. I also remember seeing one in Florida but we didn’t get to eat there. How good to know that they at least allow animals to sit on the porch and be with their people. I prefer to eat outdoors anyway, when possible, so that would work for me! Great photos….though I would have liked to see the food too! 🙂
We’ve never eaten at Cracker Barrel before but we’re going to remember this, Sugar! What a fun time for you!
Love ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly
Oooo, I’ve never been to a Cracker Barrel restaurant but they sound absolutely divine! 😀 I always love a shady and comfy covered patio to rest my paws! Thanks for the info Sugar…but now I’m kind of hungry!
Hey Sugar!
Wow, I didn’t know that about Cracker Barrel! I’ll have to send my peeps there and ask for another white box of yummers just for me. BOL
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, COP
I have never been to a Cracker Barrel! I do likes their cheese that is sold in the stores though! Tasty!!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Definitely sounds better than the toll plazas! Love Dolly
Aw shucks, Sugar, if I’d known you and your peeps were going to be stopping at Cracker Barrel, I could have met you at the one here in Greenville, right off I-85, for breakfast on Sunday — that’s where the girls’ Daddy and I had our breakfast on Sunday. Boo-hoo. 🙁 It probably would have been out of the way for you, though — a little more to the east. Glad you all made it home safely!
Good to know, thanks for the great review and pictures.
Thank you for this info, Sugar. We’ve stopped at them before just for a walk and snacks. Never thought about actually eating on the porch before.
Here, we’ve got the first “not on an interstate” CB. Their corporate offices are one town south of us. We’ll have to ask them if they mind us doing that. Would be great practice for Vlad & Barkly.
We love Cracker Barrel. What a great idea to eat on the porch!
Mama loves Cracker Barrel so we always stop in on our trips to Atlanta. When I was little she could sneak me in without anyone knowing but now that I bigger they do the porch dining too cos I have very good manners.
