In honor of BlogPaws Senior Pets Celebration we were inspired to ask our Golden Pines friend Kim, Why does she adopt Senior Golden Retrievers? Kim has a Golden heart for Senior Goldens. She has fostered/adopted many unwanted Goldens at the shelter. Kim loves senior Goldens, smitten by their soulful look from their eyes and gentle white faces. Her Golden Pines home has given these Senior Goldens new Golden Treasured Life.
1. Senior dogs are almost always house-trained and you get to sleep through the night not worrying about accidents.
2. Senior dogs won’t chew your favorite shoes and furniture.
3. Senior dogs are content to just hang out with you and not make the demands on your time and attention like young dogs can.
4. Adopting a senior dog can help cure empty-nester blues. What can be a better distraction for a lonely parent whose last child has just left home?
5. When you adopt a senior dog, you are given an extraordinary gift to love and be loved unconditionally in return. What could be a better gift?
Lots of Golden Thanks Kim for sharing your Golden LOVE to Senior dogs.
We wish for all senior dogs in the shelter to get adopted and find their forever home.
Lots of Golden L♥VE n Woofs

Next time, I’ll share my thoughts of Being a Senior Golden Retriever.
Very nice post Sugar. One of my former co-workers had 2 adopted goldens that were awesome dogs. I don’t believe they were seniors when they were adopted, but they may have been young adults or middle-aged.
Kim has had some wonderful seniors while we’ve known her. Each one gets lots of love and attention.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Seniors are the best. Wild applause for all who help seniors.
God Bless Kim for loving those beautiful Goldens!!
She must get tons and tons of kisses and hugs each day
Hugs Madi your bfff
Wonderful reasons. Kim is a special person to take in all of those seniors.
Those are wonderful reasons! Before Phod we were actually looking for a more senior dog, but it wasn’t in our cards at that time. Someday:) Lee and Phod
Senior dogs are the best… just ask Boomer and Dottie… and adopting older dogs is awesome. You’ve given all the right reasons!
There is indeed some excellent reasons to adopt an older furbaby.
These are all great reasons to adopt a senior dog. It is so sad that they have given love all their lives only to be in need of a new family when they are older. I hope to adopt a senior dog in a few years when we don’t travel as much anymore.
It amazes me that their would be senior Golden Retrievers needing adoption. They are such wonderful, sweet dogs. What a kind and caring person Kim is to give these senior citizens a home. Janet
Very nice pictures and great reasons to adopt a senior dog. I love the “gentle white faces” comment.
Senior dogs are grreat! Momma said she plans to foster seniors once she’s able again, but right now we have our own senior to take care of, Cinderella.
WELL DONE…. WELL SAID !!!
That is wonderful! Living with a senior I can say they are wonderful, the only bummer is that they aren’t into being wild and crazy too much, but Katie still has her moments.
What a sweet post, this morning, Sugar!! Once I get caught up on my reading, I’ll have to go check out Kim’s blog. Since the day my stepson got his first dog — a Golden Retriever puppy — some 15 (or more) years ago, I have been in love with the breed. Actually, Jason’s Georgie is my Callie’s great uncle — Georgia and Callie’s grandfather are brothers — but I’ve strayed from my original thoughts. Now that Callie and Shadow are technically seniors, I can’t imagine ANY senior Golden Retriever being unwanted! I’d adopt a senior Golden Retriever (or two) if I had the space in my house. You know I love Ducky dearly, but I don’t want any more puppies. They are precious, sweet, cute, etc., but I just don’t have the energy to keep up with a puppy, or the patience to deal with “accidents” any more. Well, that’s not quite true, but I’m sure you understand what I’m saying.
I agree with all your points about seniors. Excellent.
Have a woof woof day Sugar. My best to your mom. 🙂
Great post today, Sugar! Those are five perfect reasons seniors are wonderful. The only reason I’d add is: Because they deserve it!
Our local Golden rescue currently has 35 Goldens in their care, 10-15 of which are seniors or in the senior range. It’s really hard to imagine a homeless Golden, much less a homeless senior Golden. I look at all their faces… such sweethearts. But I know the seniors will wait longer for a home than the young ones and I think it’s because so many people don’t realize the special joy in adopting a senior.
This is a great post and an important message!
all these beautiful faces wating to be adopted makes me so sad and i wonder why someone keeps them that long then has to adopte them out. we adopted Cooper at age 7 and he had been there for over a year at the SPCA because of his age…. he was a wonderful dog and already fully trained…
What sweet faces. special hugs to Kim at Golden Pines

Adopting/fostering seniors is the best. Over here they also get overlooked but they usually are great with families and older folk. Hooray for seniors. Nice one Sugar. Have a terrific Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
This is a very sweet post…I like it, but I don’t know if i can do such thing. I like baby pets because they might live longer. I can’t handle separation so soon.
Seniors are great, they know all about the bipeds and how to get the best treats :o) Have a golden thursday.
Such sweet faces. XOXOXO Great list of good reasons to adopt a senior dog! 🙂
What a sweet post Sugar. There are so many great reasons to adopt a senior dog. I have to say, you Goldens are all so happy…everyone is smiling!!! And what beautiful smiles they are!

Hi Sugar, We love Kim and her pack and her Golden Heart! I love Goldens and wanted one many years ago but with the fur hubby said no-due to my allergies and asthma. Such gentle pups you are. I also admire Kim for adopting seniors and special needs dogs-she has many halos in heaven.
Sending you lots of golden love today.

Our mommy has a soft spot for senior animals because she thinks all of them should have the love and care they deserve in their later years. We wish all animals had a furever home for literally furever!
The answer should be “Why not?”!!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
I remember as a teenager, we had a neighbor who owned a Golden named Sam. Sam and the lady who owned her literally had the same haircolor!
We love KIm so much. She is a saint. I’ve never regretted the decision to adopt the Senior Goldens. Easton is MY goofy boy. Lady still visits occasionally; a tribute to her lifeforce.
Hi Y’all!
Oh Sugar, you have really, really put seniors in a new and wonderful light.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
What a wonderful post, Sugar. Kim is just the best, taking in the Seniors. We love our Seniors too….we have 3, 2 beagles and one golden now. I wouldn’t trade them in for a cute puppy ever. They are easy to take care of and they are so loving. They will go along with whatever we want to do. I would definitely adopt a senior also!
We love old gold too! We had so wanted to adopt Nicholas from AZGRC, but Harlow needed immediate rescue.
One of our greatest compliments we have received through the blog was after we adopted Harlow, someone mentioned we were getting to be like Kim. How awesome is that?
Sam
That is awesome! We don’t like seeing homeless old dogs

Beautiful senior dogs and wonderful reasons to adopt seniors!
As soon as my blog is a full time gig, we’re going to adopt a senior cattle dog (our breed) mix. And I can’t wait. Thanks for this amazing list; you just made me excited for that day. It’ll be an amazing day.
As your mom knows Miss Kim is a wonderful soul, with a wonderful heart who does so much for so many seniors. She is our inspiration. Thanks for showcasing Miss Kim Sugar, she really is a marvel.
I went to the SPCA to look for a senior dog to adopt(I am 66). Low and behold I found a beautiful Golden Retriever who was 7 years old. I am going back to get her tomorrow. I know she and I will have a beautiful life together.
