I enjoy going for a long walk. I am especially fond of nature walks. It’s amazing how many “secret” gardens we’ve discovered on our walks. I Golden LOVE when my mom takes me to the pond and on a mini hike too.
Believe it or not bugs/flies likes my mom. She always gets bit. It’s been a constant dilemma for the reasons why she gets bit. Well, it means that bugs surrounds my vicinity too. Mom is always on a hunt for natural remedy/solutions for both of us to use.
Months ago, we discovered the product Natural Pet Herbal Defense Oil. It is a concentrated insect replant oil that consist of Neem Oil, Almond Oil, Citronella, Lavender, Rosemary, Sage and Cedar. It is 100% deet and pesticide free. These natural oil scents are safe and familiar scents for people but many biting bugs/flies/insects dislike it.
The suggested application is on a dog’s neck, back hindquarters and belly.
Due to my skin sensitivity, mom uses my harness to apply the oil drops.
We are INDEED! bug/flies/insect free on our walks.
Mom is a bit sensitive to smell. She says that the scent of citronella is strong but diminishes after a couple of minutes. Also, it is suggested to use on a weekly basis but since it is applied to my harness, mom applies it every 3 days.
Natural Pet Herbal Defense Oil is also used by many as a holistic way to prevent flea/tick. I’m fortunate that I never had any flea or tick. A natural flea/tick solution is applied on me every four weeks. The Natural Defense Oil is my added guardian against these pesky flea/tick.
Did you know that many bug/flies/insects/fleas tend to hide underneath piles of leaves and grass. Be extra careful and watchful of these areas where you walk your dog.
Important Ways you can adapt to avoid these pesky bugs/flies/insects/fleas/ticks
1) These pesky bugs/flies/insects/fleas/ticks are drawn to the weakest hosts. By feeding a high quality balance food, your dog will be in good health and have a strong immune system.
2) Grooming your dog is essential which consists of brushing and bathing. Cleaning your dog’s paw after being outdoor is a must.
3) Daily cleaning of your dog’s home environment particularly their sleeping area(s).
4) Mindful of your outdoor environment and activities. Use your best judgement in the areas you walk your dog.
5) Always consult your vet for preventative medications/natural remedies.
We give Natural Pet Herbal Defense Oil 4 Golden Paws.

This sounds like a purrfect thing for our small woofie to try! Thanks for the review and sharing with us.
Have a great Monday. xoxo
This particular oil sounds very similar to one that mama has used on us before! We can’t remember the name but it worked very well on us and also conditioned our skin and furs! Thanks Sugar! Xo Chloe and LadyBug
Flies and more flies. That’s what we get!
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
we have something very similar. mom does not walk us in wooded area usually so we only use front line tick preventative when we go in the woods she is very very scared of the chemicals. For everyday we use a natural spray Mom has found some ticks on us and one flea BUT while we were on preventative the same thing happened
urban hounds
so if they are drawn to the weakest host, that is why they bite me all the time and do’t bite Bob… bugs are the bane of my existence in summer months. thanks for the info. i have to say i smiled really big while looking at that last collage of your face..
Well that sounds like a great remade. I have never had a flea or evewn a tick (hard to believe with all the hiking and such that I do). Butt FLIES!!! Oh how I, I’m just going to say it, hate them! They drive me crazy, even if it is just one. If it just keeps one fly away from me then it is worth checking out this stuff.
Blessings,
Goose
We haven’t had tick or flea problems since moving to Tulsa. Well, last summer, the first time in six years, but we took care of it. I don’t like putting drop on the dogs, so we’re glad the chickens take care of most of the bugs. We use tea tree oil on the humans, but your concoction looks like it would smell better.
That oil sounds like a good idea. Thanks Sugar

Good to know – Mr Reilly has been bothered a lot by mosquito’s this summer.
that looked just like you on that bottle sugar! we need some of that stuff around here!

We are very good at not having fleas and ticks (none whatsoever!) We stay on flea meds during the summer months, and they don’t bother us the rest of the year. And we don’t walk in woodsy areas where ticks are, so we don’t get those either. But mosquitoes, they love to bother and bite us!! This oil sounds like a good option for us and for mom! We just might check this out!
My mom is getting eaten a lot too, and we think that Bailie got some bites yesterday as she was itching in odd places a lot last night. We may have to give that a try, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tip, my Mum will have to look for it here in Europe.
Sugar, my Wondercide shampoo bar is all natural and made with Neem Oil. It is supposed to be good for keeping bugs away as well…and it does not have that stinky scent; it just smells clean. I love it. This product sounds like a fabulous addition to the natural remedies for keeping those pesky bugs away. High paws!

Hey Sugar OMDS our moms might be related. Bugs love her too. Recently she read that bugs are attracted to folks with O+ blood type. Mom and Dad can be in the very same spot but the bugs swarm around her but never bother my Dad ..he is type A.
Hugs Madi your BFFF
Sounds good and all natural. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
That sounds like a great product, now the bugs just bug us! Lee and Phod
It’s wonderful that you found something that’s natural but keeps the bugs away from you! That means more fun walks!
Hey Sugar – I have used a product with similar ingredients before. It’s pretty amazing what all it’s good for! We have lots of mosquitoes at our house.
We have looked into the Wondercide products , this sounds similar. we like using natural stuff.

That sounds great, Sugar. We are always on the lookout for all natural remedies. Has your Mom found something that works for her too?
Very cool. Luckily we don’t have too many bugs here, but we do have bad ticks and fleas. I’ve never tried an oil. That would be good for hiking here, becuase the ticks are really only a problem when we hike in the canyons.
I’m so glad this works well for you Sugar…Momz has tried some natural oils on herself but our Florida bugs are tough and the natural oil blends didn’t work so well for her…she hasn’t tried them on me yet
What a good idea your mom had to put it on your harness. I don’t always like to apply things directly to the dogs.
Oh, that’s a PAWSOME idea Sugar! I like that your Moms is smart and applies it to the harness!!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Great review, good to know that it works and you look like your enjoying your bug free walk.
I use a natural spray that I apply every day. I put it on their legs, their back end, back, neck, chest and their head. Then I rub some in my hands and put a little on their face. When we get back from our walks their legs, chest and paws are rinsed off, they are towel dried and brushed.
They are also on the raw diet, and eat fairly healthy, plus I feed them garlic tablets. Sometimes the little midges come ’round them, but for the most part it works pretty well.
Sounds like a lot gentler alternative than some of the other repellents on the market. Apparently it’s quite effective though!
Natural is definitely the way to go!
Sounds like a great products. We love nature hikes too but I hate the bugs.
