While walking at one of my favorite park, it was not hard to notice un-scooped dog poop on the ground. I had to stop and alert my mom. It was stinky too and there were many flies gathering on it. It’s smushed poop too. Most likely a kid stepped on it as it was adjacent to a playground.
What would you do? Would you pick-up other dog’s poop?
Is there etiquette to pick-up other dog’s poop?
Is it wrong for someone to just walk past another dog’s poop without picking it up?
As a responsible dog owner, I hope your answer would be a YES.
Also, as a courtesy to others (pets/humans) and it is the right thing to do.
Honestly, it is yucky to pick up other dog’s poop.
One reason we always have the Easy Scoop A Poop on my leash.
A handy poop scooper that shield your hand from the yuckiness of picking up poop particularly other dog’s poop.

That is a pawticularly stinky situation. We know you always do the right thing, Sugar. Great info.
Unfortunately around here, we’d be pickin’ up poop the whole walk. So SHE usually just gets ours.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & roxy
You are a Great citizen.
Hard call. Do you working to keep communal areas clean, or are you being an enabler? Best bet is to catch the poop abandoner in the act of abandoning and kindly offer (thrust!) a poop bag in their face, with a pleasant “Your Welcome.” And yes, I’ve done that. 🙂
A human friend of my Mummy, actually watched a dog owner take out a poop-bag and pretend to scoop! As soon as they felt unobserved they popped the unused bag back in their pocket… she called after them ” Excuse me, you might have scooped your dog’s poop and put in your pocket, but it appears that your wife must have pooped too whilst you were waiting. Could you come back and scoop that too?” They returned and started bluffing… she waited til the poop was bagged and wished them a poopy day!
BOL!
We kinda adopt the TEACH by EXAMPLE method… and DO offer the bags when necessary…
THIS is a sensitive issue.
I agree with Daisy- if I picked up everyone else’s mess I’d be there all day! I tend to leave if it’s in a place where it can’t be trodden on, but will definitely pick up if it’s in the way of anything.
I just wish dog owners would be more responsible 🙁
It depends on how many bags we have. 🙂 But actually we don’t see that issue too often.
Depending on what sort of Mood Dad’s in I think he would probably feel like picking it up and throwing it at the offender, he has offered poop bags to people but got abuse for it so doesn’t now and just gets a stick and flicks it off the path or into the hedgerow unless it’s near a kiddies playground and will than pick it up for health reasons.
I missed the first campaign but will definately be around for the second one, it’s one of Dad’s pet hates.
If you can’t scoop the poop don’t own a dog.
Sheba.
Although I do pick up poo from other dogs, I admit I don’t go out of my way to do it….yet. If there is poop in the vicinity of where Chester and Gretel poop I will pick up the other pile too. If I spot it from a distance though I tend to walk on by unless it’s in a place where someone could easily step in it. I just wish everybody would pick up their own. I actually saw a person letting their dog poop IN the lake by our house once! What are these people thinking?
Well we always pick up our poop and honestly we sometimes pick up others poop…just sometimes…wesa a little ashamed about that.

I’m thinking about buying one of these… I really struggle with picking up poop because of the the texture. But, I’m curious will other poop bags fit on this or can I only use their brand of poop bags? Any ideas Sugar?
Sugar…Daddy-dog had to scoop the poop of another dog when we were camping at the State Park last weekend. Can you believe someone with a dog at the campground kept leaving poop everywhere?!? We scooped it…and just as we did our neighbor came out of his RV with a baggie to scoop it too. He saw it when returning from his walk with his two dogs and was angry that someone would leave poop!
We were angry too, because people who don’t scoop are the reason why dogs in Florida cannot go into certain parks, onto the beaches, etc. Grrrrrrrr!
You know we love your Easy Scoop. It would have been extremely handy for us this past weekend.

I can’t do it. It just grosses me out. I have thought about heading up to my woods with a bucket and a pooper scooper, but I just can’t pick it up with my hands.
YES INDEED MOM SAID SHE WOULD BECAUSE IT JUST TAKES A HANDFUL BAD DOG OWNERS TO GIVE THE REST OF THE PACK A BAD NAME!!..
HUGS MADI YOUR BFFF
When we see Poo in the wrong place, like in a park, on a sidewalk, once on a bench (yes strange), we bagged it and tossed it. We like to call it “poo-karma” and my peep thinks it gives her good luck and doing her bit for the community.
We know that sometimes a bad dog owner can ruin it for all. There use to be a little beach I could go to, but too many people didn’t pick up their dog poo, so all dogs got banned.

That is a great idea for scooping “found poop”. We have to sort out our walking procedure, right now it is a terrible mess because Bailie is so young. One thing is for sure, we have plenty of poop to scoop right now, though. So far Bailie is doing well on learning to do her business on a walk and not in the yard. She hasn’t messed up yet, so we are hopeful she will get that down. We may be investing in the fifth paw, though to carry the bags.
Well, I have to admit… it’s all about size and texture. If it’s a small firm/dry poop, I’ll pick it up. If it’s a large, squishy poop, I won’t. It’s just too gross… I can’t help it. Especially just knowing it’s from another dog that isn’t mine. But I guess you’re right, the Easy Scoop a Poop would help with that problem.
It’s a tough call overall. It’s the right thing to do to be a good citizen and keep the environment clean for everyone. But it also encourages other people to just keep leaving it because they think, “Oh, someone else will pick it up.” Like others said, it’s good to catch them in the act of leaving it behind, but that rarely happens.
You’re awesome for always picking it up.
Our city neighborhood is full of messes, many people don’t care and lots of dogs even run loose! But f we’re down cleaning up some poo anyway, we’ll clean up what else is around as well.
It is the right thing to do and pick up other dogs poop however I’ve been guilty of passing it by unless it’s dog poop in my own yard. THAT I refuse to have. Even Titan’s pooped gets picked up every few days.
Our mommy doesn’t carry dog poop bags since our sisfur Sadie went to the bridge but she sees lots of poop that needs to be picked up these days. What is wrong with people?
Mom thinks scooping it is the right thing to do, but it really burns her up that you have to do it. She says that if she used that dog park she’d be keeping a look-out for the poop offenders and giving them a piece of her mind. She’s glad we use litter boxes. When she was a child it was her job to clean up after the family dog. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Misty May, Mauricio, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
We all suffer, dogs and humans, for the irresponsible owners, so yes, we police the area so that we can continue to have the privilege of being there.
We ran into that problem today when we were walking on the beach. Mommy says it is a shame that irresponsible owners let their dogs poop on the sidewalk and don’t pick it up. Now there will be a round of letters to the editor of the local paper demanding that dogs be banned from walking on the beach.
If Mommy sees them starting to walk off she offers them a doggie bag to put the poop in but most of the time they are long gone, so we has to take care of it.
Nothing annoys us more than peeps who don’t pick up. Have a tremendous Thursday Sugar.
Best wishes Molly
No, but mom did once or twice depending on its location
Benny & Lily
I ALWAYS pick up other doggies poop but you would be amazed at the people who don’t!
Well, the answer is yes and no. I don’t have one of those scoopy thingies, so Ma is a little grossed out by other doggies poopies. Now, I agree, if it’s nice and firm, yes Ma does pick it up. If it’s squishy and stuffs..no. Shes just too much of a woos. Oh, and it also depends on where it is. If it’s on the sidewalk…YES. If it’s near the street/gutter…sometimes. Sorry, does that make Ma a horrible person…
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Very rhoughtful Sugar, and thanks for the scoop!
Hi Y’all!
Wow that is one of my Human’s pet peeves! She doesn’t understand it at all, especially at places that supply poop bags for us, why would you leave it for someone else to pick up or accidently step in?
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
It’s a good idea to pick up other dogs’ poo, but honestly I don’t always do so. It depends on the location and the situation. I always pick up after Maya & Pierson, though.
The Easy Scoop A Poop is perfect for anyone walking with their dogs. It is so small compare to anything else on the market. It has a roll of 10 bags inside, and refills are available,. But, any bag will work with it! All you have to do is drop the scooper into any bag you like to use, use the sides of the scooper like a clamshell and pick the poop. You will not feel anything! Your scooper stays clean and so does your hand. When done, turn the bag inside out and let the clams open, and you are done. Once you use it, you get how simple it really is!
I picked up a moldy pile yesterday and forgot it was in my PooPac… it smelled worse than fresh poop but I am still glad I didn’t leave it in the woods!!
believe it or not I’ve never come across any around here that hasn’t been scooped. I guess the neighborhood dogs all have responsible people 🙂
Yes I would. Getting my post ready for scoop that poop day.
Been there and MOM has done that. Picking up other dogs poops I mean, not leaving mine. I have seen Bert’s Miss Vickie do the same thing. So YES we do pick others up because it is the right thing to do AND we hope it helps in keeping places open for us pups to visit and enjoy.
Blessings,
Goose
I can’t bring myself to do it. There’s one stretch of land close to our house where one of our neighbor’s lets his dog go and it’s pretty annoying. I need to catch him in the act and say something, but I’m not picking it up.
This is a really great idea Sugar. Your mom is super responsible for scooping that other dog’s poop!
I don’t find other dogs’ poop particularly yucky (unless it really is, e.g. very runny). Problem with this idea where we live, though, is that we’d have to take at least a wagon with us, to be actually able to pick up all the poop that’s been left behind.
We scoop unscooped poop indeed. I am a bit of a poop patrol, too – people know to walk with bags around these parts. It is unsanitary and dangerous and I am glad to see others clean it up, too 😉
The other day, we just realised that the little poop is let not by small dogs but by street cats. We offer baggies to other humans who need them (we always bring extra!) but we live the cleanup to the town council workers 😉 who sweep up every day!
Great post. I totally agree. Always better for the environment to just pick it up, even if it’s not your pups poop.
