“Pre-visualizing a colored scenery in black and white.”
Recently, my mom attended a free mini black and white nature photography workshop.
She learned 3 Essential Black and White Nature Photography Tips
1) Never use your camera’s built in black and white function.
2) Look for contrast of dark and light.
3) Visualize, as some colored photos are meant to be simply in black and white.
For the past days, we’ve been going for long nature walks. Mom has been experimenting with her black and white photography. Of course, she has to include me as part of nature’s accessory.

This is a great pic. Of course, we think all your pics are great, Sugar. Have a super Sunday. XOXO
What an interesting class that must have been
Benny & Lily
Looking great there, among the grass!
great tips, tell mom thanks
Those are some great points at taking Black and White pictures. We have never tried it but maybe we should. Hope all of you have a great Sunday.
A great shot and thanks for the tips. The shadowing on Sugar’s fur is so pretty.
Sugar I will say it again, you just have the warmest, happy smile. You brighten up the world girl.
Blessings,
Goose
That smile lights up my day.
Sunday wags
Good tips, and of course you look great Sugar
a picture without you is a no-go Sugar. Thanks for the hints for perfect b/w pictures! Have a golden black and white sunday!
Good tips! We forgot to visualize and go with B&W as an afterthought so we will change our thinking!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Your Mom is very smart Sugar! Have a happy Easy Sunday!
I think those are good tips. Mom hasn’t taken such a class but from what she has seen and tried, that holds true. Even our professional photographer shoots in color and converts. Nice photo 🙂
Happy smiles Sugar. Have a serene Sunday and enjoy your big easy today.
Best wishes Molly
The nature walks are one thing, but you’re the most important part of that walk. I’m pretty sure you already know that.
Have a woof woof day Sugar. My best to your mom. 🙂
The class must have been very interesting…I do like the change in focus here…you so sharp in the foreground with the soft focus background behind you
Great picture! We didn’t even know there’s black & white functions on the camera either. Love Dolly
Great shot, great contrast!!!
Well, this photo wouldn’t have been complete without this important accessory!
Well, of course she has to include you! You’re the star!
This is really cool. What a great idea to attend a photography class as a blogger! I will keep my eyes peeled for one in my area.
Sugar give you mom a high 5 for an excellent B&W…she learned a lot in the workshop
BUT she also has an excellent subject to practice on too.
HUGS MADI YOUR BFFF
love this Sugar!!! Some people might think they need PhotoShop to do B&W, not true! They have great sites for those of us who aren’t as “photo savvy” as you……www.picmonkey.com also http://www.ribbet.com (to name just a couple), they are both free for basics too and super easy for novices like me!
That was good information! I always thought I was cheating when I always take color and convert to black & white. I definitely need to work on the visualizing though. You are a very important part of that natural shot, Sugar, and I think your Mom visualized that one very well!
Lovely picture! I agree with Jan K – I always thought I was cheating converting a color to black and white! Thanks for sharing!
That is gorgeous! Love how Sugar almost appears to have a spotlight on him. I don’t do b&w photography often as I find it a challenge but when I take the time, I really enjoy how it tells a story more.
you always look good no matter what the color
You will always look great, whether in black and white or color. I’m convinced you can’t possibly take any bad photos.
You make the perfect accessory to Mother Nature.
You are the main part of the scenery, Sugar!
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
what a gorgeous smile Sugar !!

Great pic Sugar! You are beautiful:)
You look just as beautiful in black and white Sugar as you do in full color! Tell mom she did a great job with that photo!

Thanks for the tips, and that is a beautiful picture!!
That picture was definitely made for black and white!
We love your black and white smile, Sugar!
Love ya lots♥

Wow, that is a stunning photo! Your Mum has really taken her course to heart. I’d say that’s my favourite of her B&W’s of you so far 🙂
Great accessory too Sugar! Really fantastic shot and tips Sugar’s mom. Interesting that they said never to use the b&w feature on a camera. I don’t, but curious why they said not to do so. I have to say I really love the photo your submitted today. Love the contrast of black and white. It really shows off Sugar’s beauty.
Thanks for the tips! You look happy and handsome in that picture! Lee and Phod
Oh, I LOVES that Sugar!! You look FABulous there in front of the grasses!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Sugar, the workshop paid off, what a beautiful photo 🙂 xxooxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Great picture and excellent tips. I never like my pics in B&W. I will try these tips. Thanks.
Beautiful!
Wonderful tips, thank you for sharing! You have a wonderful model!
how fun to take a class! Thanks for sharing what you learned!
Great picture-we are still visiting and looking at all the photos.
Our mom loves black and white photography. Our dad did a lot of it at one time, and we still have a darkroom in our basement. This photo was definitely made to be black and white. Just wouldn’t have been as good in color. Thanks for sharing. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Lisbeth Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid and Calista Jo
So beautiful!! Sugar, you are so cute and expressive. My mom is trying to learn to use her camera, but is having trouble. We have to sit still for a very long time!!
