October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A Pink ribbon is the official color and symbol of the Breast Cancer Awareness Movement. The color Pink is known to be feminine, sums up women’s qualities of being beautiful, good and caring. The pink ribbon symbolizes fear of breast cancer, hope for the future, and goodness of people and businesses who support the Breast Cancer Awareness Movement.
Did you know that dogs can get breast cancer too?
Yes they do, but it is called Mammary Cancer. The good news is that the disease can be treated successfully if caught early. It is common for unspayed female dogs ages 5 -10. A very good reason to spay your dog for best prevention. If you find a lump on your dog, make sure to see your vet immediately as mammary tumors in dogs often grow quickly.
In support of breast cancer month, mom painted my tail pink with PetPaint, a waterproof paint. Unlike a permanent dye, PetPaint can be washed off immediately with water and pet shampoo. Using PetPaint can be a PAWsome alternative for pet clothing/costumes.
Pink is the color of the fighters, survivors, supporters and the angels.
Lots of Golden L♥VE n Woofs
SUGAR
So cool showing your support! 🙂
Love this sweet post Sugar. Great to support Breast Cancer Awareness- affects so many of us. X TH
Aw, Sugar, that is very sweet. I have a Great Aunt and several friends who are breast cancer survivors and they always say that every bit of pink (fur) counts towards awareness and a cure!
It’s very good of you to show your support, Sugar. I think Mr. N will object if I try to paint him pink though.
Awesome PSA Sugar!! Love that pink tail!! xo Chloe and LadyBug
Pretty in pink for a good cause
I would not want my tail painted, but wouldn’t mind wearing a pink ribbon. Woof! Woof!
you’re definitely working the pink Sugar!
Wonderful post Sweet Sugar. Our lives have just this week been affected by this yucky breast cancer.

Goose
Love the pink tail, Sugar! Your are one sweet diva! Have a Wonderful Wednesday!
Sugar- the pink tail and purple shoes clash! Or not.
Your tail looks great sugar. Thanks for spreading an important message.
Pet paint is a great idea, I think it’s better for dogs than to wear a costume (except that water thingy to remove it).
Our foxterrier died in case of breast cancer and I hope that they will find a cure soon. Thanks for showing your support on a wonderful way! Have a golden-pink wednesday, Sugar
I love that. Super cute and for a great cause.

Sugar, you tail looks like pink cotton candy! How terrierific! I am happy to see you raising awareness of Breast Cancer Awareness month!
*high paw* my girl,
Oz
Sugar what a cool way to show your support for breast cancer awareness. You rock!
That is so cool Sugar! We really like your pink tail!
Sugar, you’re constantly proving what a good, sweet girl you are! And while I normally don’t approve of “painting” a dog’s fur, in this case I make an exception….
My Mom and our second poodle, Pixie, were both diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 1976. After Mom had her mastectomy and returned home from the hospital, she asked me to take Pixie to our vet and help him help her go to Heaven. While I watched the vet get ready, he told me about the day he told Mom that Pixie had breast cancer. “As soon as I said it, your Mom blurted out ‘Just like Me!’ and my jaw dropped to the floor. How could I tell her that Pixie’s cancer was inoperable and she needed to be put to sleep to end her pain?” That was probably the only time all day that I laughed. That was just like my Mom; and to this day I can still picture the scene in my head! Mom succumbed to the devastation wrought by her cancer in November of 1979. I’ve been getting regular mammograms ever since.
That’s a super cool idea for Halloween (the pet paint)> and for breast cancer awareness.
Sugar, you look pretty in pink!
We do not know that dogs can get breast cancer as well. Thank you for educating us.
love your pink tail!
I absolutely adore Sugar. She is drop dead gorgeous, and I know I say that all the time. . .but really. It’s an absolute fact.
Love the new tail look Sugar! Keep spreading the word!
Oh, I LUVS your pink tail, Sugar! And it’s for such a good cause, too. We knew that doggies could gets mammary cancer so I always make sure to remind mom to do a check by rolling over and insisting she rub my chest and tummy. Can’t be too careful!
Wiggles & Wags,
Mayzie

Beautiful awareness post. I’m glad you included female pets into your post! Love the pink tail.
Loving your pink tail, Sugar! Great way to show your support! We definitely check Rita for lumps! It’s very important to check our pups all over.
Wow, a pink tail! We know that if you get spayed before your first heat you have an almost zero percent of getting breast cancer as a dog. I don’t think many people know that, so this is a good post.
Sugar, we think your pink tail is so au courant. That would be a good idea for Hall-o-ween rather than try to stick clothes on us. Mommy’s doggie that she got while she was in college was not spayed and got mammary tumors. Luckily they were removed with no disease remaining. Mommy’s sister and Daddy’s sister both died from Breast Cancer so the humans know how important it is to support breast cancer research, treatment and those who have or have had breast cancer. Hi Sugar, Tell your mom that she will enjoy the book! I love your tail; I once had a Shepherd who had mammary tumor. I’m so glad that this disease isn’t kept quiet anymore-it touches all of our lives. In fact, I’m going tomorrow to get my mammogram. Sending lots of golden love to you and mom today!
Hugs, Noreen & Hunter
Hey Sugar…our local mall where my peeps walk everyday has had pink lights around the mall all Month

Awesome, Sugar!

Sugar, thank you for doing this. Two of my best friends are fighting breast cancer as i write. I have been wearing pink nail polish this month in their honor. Went and had my mammogram yesterday. I hope every woman reading theses blogs does the same. We need to beat this monster. Kudos!!!!!!!
Glad to see your support Sugar 🙂
I love the pink tail, Sugar! And I had just recently read that about unsprayed females getting mammary cancer. Sure enough, the one dog I know who had it, had several litters of puppies and wasn’t spayed until later. Luckily she has survived it though. Great post and great way to get the word out.
Never heard of Pet Paint before… watch out Pug!
Sugar and spice and everything nice…that’s what you are! Thanks so much for that gorgeous pink feathery tail you you have to raise awareness about breast cancer this month, and for getting the word out. Between you and Ann I have once again learned something new.
What a beautiful pink tail, Sugar!
Thinking about mammary cancer in dogs makes me wonder how late we can wait for spaying without increasing the risk of it. Many vets are starting to say that it’s better to wait until your dog is at least one year and even 18 months before spaying due to many health benefits. But I don’t remember how that affected mammary cancer.
In any case, thanks for doing your part to raise awareness!
Love your PINK Sugar!
My Mum had breast cancer. She fought it for 10 years but very sadly it killed her when she was only 46 years old. Anything to do with beating breast cancer or helping survivors is a cause dear to my heart. Well done Sugar for helping to raise awareness that dogs can also get it.
Great post Sugar! Loving the Pink tail! X
Love the pink accent!
Keep up the support Sugar. My paternal granny died when i was 2 of breast cancer and i only have 3 pictures of here.
