From Sugar’s mom Rosalyn
There’s always something positive in everything. For the past weeks, we’ve experienced some sad moments but we maintained having a positive attitude. It certainly helped us and provided us an uplifting spirit in a beautiful way.
Make positive thinking your everyday mission.
“Think Positive and Positive Things Will Happen.”
It’s almost a week since Sugar’s surgery. A mass on the back of her tongue, as size of a pingpong ball, was removed. It was diagnosed immediately as malignant due to its size, unusual location and statistical %. We are very diligent pet parents. Sugar’s health is very important to us especially in her senior years. The mass on her tongue was impossible for us to notice as its was so far back and there was no health risks based on her most recent annual exam (except for her needing to gain extra weight). We are very happy that we made the right decision to the take mass out as we proved the original diagnosis wrong. The result came out to be a benign mass (which was double checked by Sugar’s vet/surgeon). Sugar’s vet/surgeon had prepared us for the worst and was admittedly very surprised by the results. Unfortunately, Sugar’s vet/surgeon can not guarantee that the mass will not come back. Also, another mass under her tongue needs to be removed.
Sugar is recovering well from her surgery. Her healing tongue is progressing well. She has lost weight but maintains a good appetite and allowing her to gain back the weight. We have to prepare Sugar for her next scheduled surgery. Sugar is strong and a fighter.
We will continue to Think Positive …
and many thanks for your continued good thoughts. We appreciate it very much.
“Positive thinking is not about expecting the best to happen every time but accepting that whatever happens is the best for this moment.”

I am so happy you received such good news!
Funny…..I have always sensed your positive vibes during this…..Obviously they were very strong feelings!
I am so so so happy for you and relieved! I am sure your positive attitude helped and it sounds like you have amazing doctors. I had hope based on a golden pal of mine in the neighborhood, Rusty, he is very old and frail walks at a snails pace, a year ago they found a lump on his testicles and he had to be neutered. The lump came back non-malignant and he recovered! Wishing you the best as Sugar prepares for her next surgery she seems to be a perfect patient! Love Dolly
That is the best news ever! I’m so thrilled for you and Sugar. And, yes, staying positive is very healing in many ways.
I am so happy for the good news!!! What a huge relief that must be for all of you. – So, how much time does the vet think is necessary between surgeries??? – I hope that all continues to go well, and the fact that Miss Sugar has a good appetite is super-duper great!!! Hugs and smoooooooooooochies to Sugar please… 🙂
That is *incredible* news!!! I am so happy for you. Prayerful purrs still coming your way…
That is such good news! Will continue to keep dearest Sugar in our bestest thoughts as she continues to heal from this first surgery, and begins to prepare for the next.

Dear Rosalyn and Sugar, WE are so very thankful for this good news. You are both so very special and when one of us hurt, we all hurt. I know how hard it is when our pups have a bad night but to deal with recovery is so much more work. Hoping Sugar is back to her normal eating and activity level soon. Sending you lots of golden love!
Noreen & Hunter
We’re very happy for Sugar and her family, so glad there was no malignancy. 🙂
Oh, Sugar, I am SOOOOO happy to hear this wonderful news! I’m so happy I almost cried! The first thing I did was call the girls’ Daddy and tell him…he’s happy too! “That’s GREAT!” We will keep our thoughts positive and continue our prayers that the other mass on your tongue is also benign. Continue to heal well, sweet Sugar! Know that all of us here in Pet Blogger Land love you and want only the best for you.
Rosalyn, my thoughts are also with you and Sugar’s Dad. I know how hard these past weeks have been on you, having gone through a similar situation with Shadow two years ago. (She had a ping-pong-ball sized lump in the skin of her throat. But we kept our thoughts positive, too, and it turned out benign as well.) Sam & I are as diligent about our girls’ health as you & Sugar’s Dad are about hers. I sometimes feel like I’m being paranoid about Callie’s and Shadow’s health; but our vet said to me last week that he would rather have 100 pet parents like me than even 1 who doesn’t seem to care enough to notice when their pet is ill (and he has some of those). He knows that Sam & I will do what needs to be done to care for our “furry kids”. Unfortunately there are pet owners out there who won’t spend a dime on their animals other than to feed them and get them the required vaccinations. It breaks my heart but it doesn’t surprise me down here.
Wonderful news! With Blessings, Sasha and Bingo.
GREAT GREAT GREAT NEWS……
We are so happy to hear this Sugar! 🙂 It’s awesome of you to be positive and keep up the positive attitude and thoughts.
Wonderful news!! We will keep thinking positive for Sugar. Hugs.
What FABULOUS news. I’m so happy to hear you will be okay. Your energy and great spirit go a long way in your complete recovery. I believe positive thoughts and our prayers help.
You need to gain weight so now you can eat all of the good stuff and can continue to make tasty treats for Tuesdays.
Hugs and licks, BJ Pup
That’s great news! I’m so happy to hear that it was benign 🙂 We are always keeping Sugar and you in our thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery! She’s such a sweet girl, we all want her to get better quick!
We are so glad the mass was benign, we hope the other one is too and are sending a double dose of healing purrs, good vibes and crossed paws that Sugar’s recovery goes well and that the scheduled surgery goes well also. We LOVE Sugar!!!!!
Happy Dancing and shouting Hallelujah…
What pawsomely wonderful good news. We think positive thinking is very important, but we can’t forget what wonders prayer works as well, and we suspect you, as well as many others, have been doing lots of that. We are really sorry that Sugar must undergo another operation, but it sounds as if this growth is in a little easier spot to get to. We will keep up our prayers. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Best news ever Sugar. You rest up now and we send more and more healing vibes and POTP. Get well soon sweet one. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly

So glad to hear the good news sweet Sugar. If you need any help on weight gain, just as My Vickie, she seems to have that down to a science.
Much Love
Bert
I am so very happy for you!!! I’ve been following along, but haven’t commented because I didn’t want to give you false hope. Several years ago, my senior Chow Chow also had a mass in her mouth, and the Vets were convinced that she had cancer and wouldn’t have much time left. Her mass also came back benign, and better than that, it never returned.
Best.News.Of.The.Day.
You just keep on getting better, girl. Hope you’re back to 110 percent soon! <3

Love and Smooches,
Neeko and my Pack ♥
I am so very very very happy about your news. It is the best news you could’ve possibly received! We understand that the vet procedures are not all over but I am so glad that you are not dealing with cancer.
We once had a yellow Lab who was 12 yrs old. He swallowed an object and had to have emergency surgery to remove it from his small intestine. When they opened him up, they found masses that they assumed were malignant on his spleen and liver. That is the classic presentation of hemangiosarcoma. They called us mid-surgery to ask whether to euthanize him on the table or to remove the masses even though it might only buy him weeks of life. We said to remove the masses and get them tested. We then mourned for a week before the amazing news came back that the masses were a very non-aggressive kind of cancer that probably was completely cured by the surgery. Indeed, he lived another 2 years without that cancer ever reappearing!!! It’s a story a lot like Sugar’s which is why I told you it. There are miracles!
Thank goodness it was benign. I’m sure the other one is too. Great message to keep positive! Oftentimes, It’s really not as bad as it first seems. 🙂
I’m just getting around to reading my favorite blogs and I’m so happy with this news! Keep on healing up Sugar!
Sweet Sugar,
This is the best news I am so very happy for you.
xo Cinnamon
This is great news. Never give up on positive thoughts.
That is excellent news! We’re so happy for you and Sugar!
xo Sunny puppy
Oh my goodness I am a bit behind. I am so happy to hear the mass was not malignant. I hope Sugar continues to recover and the other growth is removed without incident. You gave me something to smile about today. 🙂
We talked on #petchat this week about things a vet could say to owners facing a biopsy diagnosis. Something not to say: “Lumps this size and in this location are always malignant.” Something that could be said: “Lumps of this size and this location can be malignant, but we won’t know till we get biopsy results.” I imagine a vet straddles a fine line between wanting pet parents to be prepared but not to live under a shadow of doom. In any case, I’m very relieved at the news and hope the findings bode well for the lump under her tongue. Thank goodness you are Sugar’s pawrents.
