Do you practice yoga? Yoga is a Sanskrit terms that means “uniting”. The practice of yoga was originated in India. Yoga is a practice of physical and mental discipline. Nowadays, it is a form of exercise. My mom practices several kinds of yoga, Yin, Ashtanga, and Bikram. She is a yogini. I practice Yin Yoga with her. I am a dogini.
If you follow me on Instagram, last December, you saw 2 preview videos of my Yin Yoga practice (video 1, video 2). Yoga with your dog is a growing trend.
What is Yin Yoga? Yin yoga is a slow paced yoga, where you hold poses for 3 to 5 minutes. There are no wrong poses as you do what’s feel good for your body. As an active dog, Yin is a perfect yoga practice for me. It helps me relax.
Yes, I have my own yoga mat. My mom guides me with the poses using simple basic commands like sit, down, relax, bow, and side.
Sounds strange but dogs are made for yoga.
Maybe you are unaware but your dog is actually doing common yoga poses. Downward-facing yoga pose is a common doggy stretch or bow.
Yin Yoga by Sugar can be viewed also on Golden Woofs You Tube channel
Should you try practicing yoga with your dog? Yoga with your dog is beneficial for you and your dog’s health. It’s a pawsome special bonding time too.
Since January is Train Your Dog Month, we will do a “How To” post:

We tend to just do free style yoga….probably called stretching in the morning, or just relaxing in our favourite haunts.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
I don’t usually exercise with my dogs around (unless we’re taking a walk, of course!) because they tend to try to jump on me and stuff whenever I try.
Well this just goes to show how much I do NOT know about yoga! Loved your video Sugar and enjoyed reading more about yoga. It’s something I would probably like to try one day.
We sure did enjoy that Video Sugar! You are very good at Yoga! Happy Weekend!!

oh I agree with Sprinkles, lol our Booth guards the closed door when Mom does her workout, but he isn’t allowed in~~he would NEED to get involved. And any workout that involves being close to the floor~he needs to be right there next to me making the whole thing impossible 🙂 Dad sticks with the Jolly ball games and anything else that involves high energy outdoors to keep him busy and fit.
Sugar that looks like my kind of yoga! We did hot yoga for awhile but after a few months the heat (108 degrees) started to bother us so we had to stop. Yoga is great exercise, never thought of doing it with Toby.
Torrey likes to do yoga, she is a dogini for sure. Mom likes to have her close when she is practicing her yoga.
that is one of the best videos ever… you are just sooooo smart and i had no idea dogs could do yoga
Oh Sugar, look at you doing yoga! My Ma does Ashtanga yoga a lot – the heat it creates in the body helps a lot with her back and the increasing difficulty helps strengthen her back and core so she doesn’t get as much back pain. She loves yin yoga after doing some Ashtanga so she can just stretch and relax in the pose. I always just lay near her and watch. I have never tried yoga myself…but maybe I should. You are always such the inspriation, my Golden friend!
*Cairn cuddles* and Happy Weekend.

Mom has been doing yoga since she was 16……she loves it and we often help her out.
Wow, Sugar that was interesting. It was great to watch your video, specially all the positions you made. Mom would like yoga to “find her inner center” but I’m afraid together with me she can’t find it :o) Have a golden friday!
WE are more interested in Yogurt than Yoga.
Hi Y’all!
I guess that’s something my Human might try to get me back to exercising on the “easy”…not running and jumping.
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
I had no idea you were a dogini, Sugar! Did you know that I trained as an Ashtanga yoga instructor almost a decade ago? I taught for a long time but began to focus only on teaching Pilates. Anyways, now I think I know the other reason Wilhelm is so fond of you- he is a dogini too! We have been working on a post about it. He LOVES joining me for stretching and breathing.
We saw on TV, yoga classes with your pup. We think it’s silly and distracting. But you do make it look fun Sugar
Lily
Great post Sugar – we love yoga too and I know it would be good for our seniors Jack & Maggie. Thanks for joining the Hop – hope your mouth is healing up!
My mom doesn’t do yoga and right now we don’t have any spare time for new activities, but it looks calming. Love the video, Sugar, you are a natural! Happy Friday!
I like your pink mat, Sugar. Being a dogini is a big deal. 🙂
Love this! I totally missed those videos before now and headed to check them out. Thanks!
Sugar it is a most relaxing form or exercise too you look very happy and comfy
Hugs madi your bfff
Mr. N likes to stretch a lot and do yoga poses too. Looking forward to your yoga mat post!
What a great idea Sugar and great for even more mom and dog time!
Sugar, you look like you just want to close your eyes and sleep.
Wow! Yoga for dogs!! How cool, interesting post! I have always wanted to try yoga but of course haven’t yet..would be interesting to it with the dogs though lol

Love your yoga video!!!!
Mommy says that she never heard of Yin yoga before now, but she thinks she would like that. We like to “help” her when she is on the floor doing her P.T. exercises. MOL! You do look very relaxed, Sugar! Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Sugar, you are a yoga pro! I’ve been meaning to get back into it but just haven’t found how to incorporate it into my schedule. Whenever I do yoga Niles usually flips and tries to lick me to death! After watching your cute video I am inspired to start again!
We do DOGA everyday before we go out hunting Sugar but you have given us some more ideas. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
That is nice you doing yoga with your mom Sugar, it must be very rewarding. Love Dolly
Yoga is great for keeping in balance and staying centered.
Wows! That is pawsome Sugar!! I wonder if sittin’ on Ma’s back is an acceptable Yoga move??? BOL
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I’ve never tried yoga. Great pictures and video
Sugar, your downward doggy pose is most pawfect! Me and Nalle do our upward and downward doggies in sync efurry morning! Our names mean Bear, so Mama calls us her YogiBears! WOL! Wooooooowoooooooo!
This is so cute! I’ve been wanting to try yoga, I’ll have to try it with Petal. 🙂
Love that you roll out your yoga mat! So sweet.
I’ve always wanted to try yoga. And I think its awesome that you have your own yoga mat. Quieting your mind is really important and helpful.
We would love studying yoga under you Sugar!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Sugar, you are so clever! So cute how you roll out your own mat. Rita practices downward facing dog all the time! Sometimes when I am doing yoga, she’ll come and walk under me, or stand over me and stare at me. My last dog was a huge kisser, and she loved any pose where she could get at my face and kiss me like crazy!
You always make me smile, Sugar!
Oh how fun. I wonder if I could get Harlow to do Yoga with me.
Monty and Harlow
I love yoga now if only I could convince Boomer and Dottie to calm down enough to join me!
Looking pawsome Sugar! *Waggy tail* That rolling out the yoga mat trick looks pretty cool!
Oh, that’s so cute, Sugar! Maya and Pierson like to walk under me and put their cold wet noses in my face whenever I do the downward facing dog. For some reason, they think it’s a game. 🙂
It looks like you sure love yoga! I bet Beamer would love his own yoga mat… to sleep on!
Good job rolling that mat out Sugar! The treats were a special bonus too.
Loved the video. Our dogs do yoga poses all the time and so does the cat…lol.
Mom loves yoga and I do stretch in down dog in the morning. I’ll have to have her show me the rest of the moves, sounds like fun!
