Make Your Own Dog Safe Applesauce

September 16, 2014

Apples are the quintessential Fall fruit. There are so many creative ways you can add apples to a dish. I love making applesauce and use it as an ingredient to make dog treats. On our previous post, we shared that apples are a good source of fiber and vitamin C and considered a healthy snack for dogs. Just be careful with the apple seeds as it contain small amount of cyanide. Do not allow your dog to eat the core. (Consuming large quantities of apple seeds will do harm to your dog’s health.)
Homemade applesauce is delicious and so easy to make.

Many commercial applesauce contain sugar and preservatives.
It is safer and healthier to
Make Your Own Dog Friendly Applesauce.
In moderation, you can give applesauce to your dog as a treat. Use applesauce as one of the main ingredients in making healthy and delicious dog biscuits.

Dog Safe Applesauce : Serves 6 per 1/4 cup

Ingredients:
4 Apples
(use variety of apples, such as Honey Crisp, Gala, Mcintosh, and Red Delicious)
2-4 tbsp of Honey
2/3 cup of Water

Directions:
Peel and slice the apples (Check our post: What’s the Best Way to Peel an Apple?)
Place sliced apples in a crock pot
Add honey and water
Cook on high for 3-4 hrs
The applesauce is going to be chunky. If you prefer a smoother applesauce, use a blender.

We all eat apples so this would be a tasty option. If it is a real warm fall day, it would be good straight out of the refrigerator for a cold snack.
