Have a pet? Surely your pet has a spot in your holiday cards. In my case, for the past 12 years, my holiday cards were simply my dog Sugar. Many of my family and friends look forward to receiving Sugar’s Holiday Pet Cards.
I am not a professional photographer but I’ve managed to take good holiday pet cards of Sugar. Here are some helpful tips that I’ve shared on a previous post.
5 Tips of Taking Holiday Pet Photos
1) Select a Simple Holiday Theme.
2) Prepare and PLAN for the right time. It’s not a good idea to schedule a photo shoot when your pet is sleepy, tired and/or hungry, A relaxed and well fed pet is the best time.
3) Keep the background simple. Keep in mind that main subject is your pet.
4) Pay attention to the lighting. Natural light is the best, which means an outdoor photo shoot is ideal.
5) Make it FUN and enjoy the time you spend with your pet.
Hire A Photographer For Your Holiday Pet Cards
Another easy option, which I’m considering this year, is to Hire A Photographer.
WHY? Hiring a professional photographer can take your ideas and turn them into photographs that you will want to see more than just on a holiday card. Also as an added bonus, you and your family can be part of the photo shoot.
I’ve hired a photographer before and it was not easy. There are tons of photographers out there. Finding the one that suits your ideas for a family and pet photo can be frustrating. Photographer Central offers a solution and eases the requirement for hiring a professional photographer.
Photographer Central has the most comprehensive directory of professional photographers. It is a free online resource and requires no registration. The site is intuitive as you can filter photographers according to their preferred location, budget and style. All you need to do in your search is “save to” your favorites. Then, you can easily compare, contrast and immediately contact your preferred photographer. Each photographer has a descriptive profile and includes several sample photos.
Make Photographer Central your resource to hire a professional photographer for your up coming Holiday Pet Cards and/or Family Card.

Easy to use. Lots of good information about the photographers in my area
We are preparing our Christmas card photo. It is always so fun to get dog or cat cards! ☺
We are lucky to have two awesome pet photographers in the area we know. They have done photos for us in the past. Mom will do the Christmas photos, as pets are the only ones on our cards. It is a good idea if you want the family in the photo for your cards.
Seems more and more pop up every day!
Great tips, I also send out pet holiday cards. Sometimes they have deaded animals on them and some people don’t like that so one year I send out two different ones.
What a great idea your cards look fantastic.
Sheba.
Things have been so crazy around here the last few years that we haven’t even sent holiday cards — pet or otherwise — to anyone but each other, our son, and our siblings.
What a great giveaway!!!
We have always loved your Christmas Cards(also loved seeing the entire family in the last photo); last year was the first year we participated in Dog Card exchange. Haven’t heard anything yet about it, but just took Hunter’s photo the other day. Great tips!!!! Of course, my entire family things I’m nuts to send Christmas Cards from Hunter to blog friends, so doubt I could hire a photographer.
Have a great afternoon & evening.
Noreen & Hunter
