StarWalk: Dog Activity Monitor

For the past weeks, Sugar has been wearing Star Walk. Star Walk is a new product by iQPet. It’s a dog activity monitor device that attaches to your dog’s collar. StarWalk provides insights to your dog’s daily activity levels.

The Star Walk device requires you to download a smartphone application (available for iPhone and Andriod devices). Once downloaded, it is easy to set-up. However, it is important that you fill-out all the information about your dog, specifically height, length and weight. These are all critical information to collect accurate data on your dog’s activity level. StarWalk tracks your dog’s total steps, calories burned, active time, temperature and distance travelled. The app also shows you how your dog compares to others of his/her breed. Lastly, you can program the app for alerts and schedule to manage your dog’s meds, vet appointments and/or social playdate schedules.

As a pet parent, the Star Walk helps me understand all of Sugar’s activity and inactivity. Sugar is a senior dog that continues to be very active. There are times that her activity level is a bit too much. With her age, I have to carefully watch how many calories she burns and make sure to replenish it.

The Star Walk also motivates me to continue to have an active lifestyle with Sugar. The StarWalk allows me to set a daily goal in steps for Sugar. I can check Sugar’s activity goal directly from the device because Star Walk uses a StepLight system. The StepLight will “light up” and shows Sugar’s activity progress in 20% increments. When six lights “light up” it means that Sugar has reached or exceeded that day’s goal. Also, the Star Walk is convenient for night time walk. I can switch the StarLight mode and choose a “light color” for safe night time walks.

Sugar wears the Star Walk all day long, which means it calculates her activity level in the house. I was a bit surprised how many steps and calories Sugar’s burned from just roaming the house and playing with her toys. The Star Walk is waterproof and I can’t wait to test it out when Sugar goes for a swim.

I plan to continue using Star Walk on our walks and adventures. I will definitely do several follow-up blog posts and updates on our social media.
