Subaru is known for their dog-friendly cars and, of course, their commercials. Last month, Subaru of America, Inc. announced its continued support of pet safety travel and crash testing of pet safety products. To make this possible, Subaru partnered with Center for Pet Safety (CPS), a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit research and consumer advocacy organization.
Subaru believes in making pet parents aware of safety risks. A recent study shows that 56% of American pet owners travel with their pets and one in five admitting to traveling with a pet in their lap. Subaru wants for pet owners to be aware of vital pet travel safety measures and products available to keep their pet companion safe.
Subaru and Center for Pet Safety partnered to raise awareness of vital safety measures for four-legged friends and identify top crates and carriers on the market
To make this possible, Subaru will fund a study, designed by CPS to investigate pet crate and carrier integrity and gather the necessary data to formulate concrete testing and performance standards.
Subaru and CPS’s partnership will continue the work that began in 2013 with the testing of pet harnesses. The Harness Crashworthiness Study uncovered major differences in performance of popular pet restraints, with many resulting in catastrophic failure that could cause serious injury to both the pet and vehicle passengers.
“We want to make pet parents aware of proper safety measures they can take to help protect their pets. Following the previous study with CPS, we were delighted to support this next stage in testing,” said Michael McHale, Subaru’s director of corporate communications. “Pet safety is very important to Subaru as more than half of Subaru drivers are pet owners, with over 69% of them owning at least one dog. We feel a sense of responsibility to inform pet parents of safety measures they can take.”
Subaru and CPS will be enlisting MGA Research Corporation, an independent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) contracted testing laboratory. NHTSA will conduct rigorous crash testing on commonly available pet safety products using realistic, specially-designed crash test dogs.
We are happy for this partnership and Subaru’s continued involvement and support of pet safety travel. Subaru understands the importance of safety of all passengers including our beloved four-legged friends. that’s great that the peeps at Subaru see dogs as passengers of their cars and that they help to make efurry travel to a safe event.
It’s great that Subaru takes pets in consideration when making their vehicles safe! Even our local dealer has commercials where the board room is filled with dogs making the decisions. We think they need a kitty or two to help. Just sayin.
Very cool Sugar! It will be cool when someone is able to create a truly safe crate or harness for pet travel one of these days.
Dogs travel quite a bit. It’s great that a company takes their safety into consideration!
Woofs to this!! We love our Subaru Crosstrek. I love that Subaru thinks about our pets when they design cars. It definitely makes me consider getting another one down the road!
