In honor of 9/11, we are featuring Bretagne.
Bretagne, pronounced Brittany, is the last surviving search & rescue dog who worked at Ground Zero after 9/11. The September 11 disaster was Bretagne first deployment alongside her mom (handler), Denise Corliss. Bretagne was one of eight finalists for the 2014 American Humane Association’s annual Hero Dog Awards.
Bretagne recently turned 16 years old, and she had a pawsome NYC celebration provided by BarkBox. Bretagne was pampered with gifts, a luxury accommodation from 1 Hotel and was awarded the “Bone to the City” by Hudson River Parks. Watch BarkPost‘s pawtastic Bretagne’s Best Day Ever, 16th Birthday celebration video.
Thank you, Bretagne and to all working dogs.
Never Forgot
9/11
Happy 16th birthday, Bretagne! We love you! Thank you for your service, Bretagne and Denise!
We will never forget and I’m proud that this golden hero has the same name like my country.
We will never forget. What a wonderful tribute for Bretagne.
Mom will never ever forget either
I remember and what a great Bday. 16 wow that is so beautiful.
Hi Y’all,
We can’t forget cause the Humans lost many friends and acquaintances in the Pentagon and my Human Mama lost long time clients in the Towers. The boardwalk where the Humans used to live is lined with benches with “in memory” plaques.
My pawed grandma was a therapy dog at the Towers…
9/11 is my Human Mama’s birthday…and will forever be a bittersweet day…
Because of the sadness that lingers to this day, I’ve chosen not to post a 9/11 memory.
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
We will never forget! Thank You Bretagne and Denise Corliss for working on 9/11 for all of us.
Happy 14th to such a brave K9, Bretagne!
Hugs Madi your bfff
That is one special pup

Happy birthday Bretagne! Thank you and your Mom for your service!
Our heads are bowed, human and canine alike. We will always remember.
Thank you very much to Bretagne and all the other animals who helped during that terrible time.
Paws crossed and heads bowed here in silent tribute to our many heroes.
Woos – Ciara and Lightning
Such a touching video; thank you so much to Bretagne and all the other amazing working dogs out there.
We celebrated Betagne’s birthday, too! What a wonderful, uplifting story and we thank her and her handler, Denise, for their devoted service. What a special day for a very special door. We will always remember 9/11.
*Bretagne* typed too quickly!
