Did you know the number of households with a pet is at a record high?
Currently, the majority of pet parents do not adopt from shelters or rescues, and around 65% are introduced to their pets by acquaintances of family members.
Think Adoption First with Petco & Petco Foundation
Petco and the Petco Foundation have partnered with thousands local animal welfare groups to help find homes for homeless pets and save more than 400,000 animals every year.
A very important message. I’m adopted
Lily & Edward
We have two and will be looking at a third in the not too distant future. I was surprised at the 42% that came from family or friends. I also found it odd that they separated out the local animal rescue and other rescue groups. Wouldn’t they all count as rescue adoptions?
Persuasive and valid reasons, there. I bought both of my dogs as puppies, but have no reason not to adopt in the future.
Such interesting statistics. I’m sad that so many people still get dogs from breeders and that there are people who buy dogs from pet stores. We have a lot of educating to do!
Both Bear and Scooter are adopted- I used to work as an animal shelter employee- we are very set on adopting our companions!
What a great post!
