Is dog ear cleaning necessary? Absolutely!
Cleaning and caring for your dog’s ears should be part of your at-home grooming routine. Accumulation of wax and dirt in your dog’s ear can lead to ear health problems and can cause a lot of discomfort for your dog.

Sugar, as a Golden Retriever, is prone to ear health problems. She had several painful ear infections that resulted in her deafness. As Sugar continues to age and to prevent further development of ear health problems, I re-educate myself about dog’s ear health. I know grooming and cleaning are the two major keys to keeping a dog’s ear healthy.
Did you know Bayer® has a line of health and wellness products known as Expert CareTM? These at home pet care products are specially formulated for your cats or dogs. Bayer ExpertCare products are conveniently available at PetSmart.
One of the products that I’ve used on Sugar is the Bayer® ExpertCareTM Ear Cleansing Rinse. Bayer ExpertCare Ear Cleansing Rinse is a fresh-scented antiseptic cleanser. It contains wax-dissolving and drying agents with aloe vera. Sugar can be fussy when her ears are getting cleaned, not with Bayer ExpertCare Ear Cleansing Rinse. Using the rinse is fairly simple and easy to liberally apply to the ear canal. The aloe vera in the rinse provides soothing relief and the fresh scent is not overwhelming. Keep in mind dog’s ears are sensitive areas and always use caution when cleaning and grooming. Be cautious or avoid using cotton swabs. Bayer ExpertCare Ear Cleansing Rinse keeps Sugar’s ears cleaner, drier, and healthier.
Good dog ear care can prevent the most common reason for ear health problems and vet visits.

You are right, clean ears are very important

It’s specially important for dogs with floppy ears. My Chihuahua rarely needs ear cleaning where as my 2 big dogs with ears that flop over need their ears cleaned weekly. I’ll have to pick up some of this for them.

Shiner also probably lost her hearing from having bad ear problems =/ I have some of this ear cleanser to try too, but have to wait a little bit to use it. She had some ointment packed into her ears at the vet and need to wait for it to clear out before I clean them.

I do everything possible to keep Bentley from ear infections. As I have learned more, thankfully, we have been able to eliminate most of them. ♥ Cleaning and a great diet are important.

I find myself constantly checking the goldens’ ears. Working at a groomers, I see some pretty nasty ears and I can’t figure out why some owners are totally oblivious to them?! Great post, thanks for sharing!

I didn’t know Sugar was deaf! Nola used to get terrible ear infections due to food allergies, so I know how awful they are. With having dachshunds, ear care is very important in this house!
