Just like humans, dogs can suffer from allergies especially when the weather changes. Many dogs like Sugar suffer from dry skin and itchiness. I find that an oatmeal bath is always the most effective way to soothe Sugar’s dry and itchy skin.

Sugar and I explored Petsmart’s health and wellness aisle in search for a new itch relief dog shampoo. I immediately saw Bayer® ExpertCareTM’s “Itch Relief Products” sign, “Help temporary relieve the itching of skin.” I was intrigued and bought Bayer ExpertCare veterinary formulated hypoallergenic soap-free oatmeal shampoo specially formulated for dogs.
An Oatmeal Bath Helps Dog Skin Problems
Oatmeal has long been used in baths and skin care treatments for human and dogs. It is known to provide relief for dry and itchy skin.
Bayer ExpertCare Oatmeal Shampoo contains colloidal oatmeal. Colloidal oatmeal is oatmeal that has been ground into a powder and used mostly for skin care and bath products. Colloidal oatmeal is an approved FDA natural ingredient. I was told by our vet that colloidal oatmeal removes toxins from the skin, and can provide up to a week of relief from itching.
Soothing Oatmeal Bath for Dry Itchy Skin
Bayer ExpertCare Oatmeal Shampoo created a good amount of suds and produced a gentle soothing scent.
Other than its effective itch relief, oatmeal provides several benefits to dog’s skin care. It’s soothing effect helps and protects the healing process of the irritated skin. Definitely, helpful for dogs with allergies like Sugar. Her severe licking and itching typically create a “hot spot.”
Lastly, an oatmeal bath helps clean and soften a dog’s coat. The combination of oatmeal and aloe vera in Bayer ExpertCare dog shampoo created a “feel good” effect. Sugar enjoyed her refreshing oatmeal bath. With regular use of skin care products for dogs containing oatmeal, I noticed a dramatic difference in Sugar’s Golden Skin.
Have you tried an oatmeal bath for your dog?
Sugar and I invite you to visit your local PetSmart and check out Bayer ExpertCare skin care products for dogs (and cats too). Just in case you missed it, Bayer ExportCare also offers Ear Cleaning Rinse. Read our previous post, Dog Ear Cleaning with Bayer ExportCare.
There is something to be aware of – dogs with grain allergies need to be careful of oatmeal shampoo because oatmeal is a grain – we found this with Reilly – he ended up at the vets after a bath with oatmeal shampoo.
Oatmeal is a great ingredient in shampoo.
