Studies show that domestic violence often involves pets as well. It is saddening to know that every nine seconds a woman is a being assaulted or beaten; which equates to four million women being physically abused by their partner each year.

Support Women Survivors of Domestic Violence and Their Pets
Abuse often extends to family pets (dogs and cats) and alarming one million pets are abused due to domestic violence. Currently, there are no laws that protect family pets of survivors of domestic violence.

Bayer understands how pets are family companions and provide unconditional love. Bayer supports domestic violence shelters that provide care for pets of survivors. Last year, Bayer donated $20,000 to The Shade Tree, a Las Vegas–based shelter for women, children, and pets who are victims of domestic abuse. Bayer’s donation also supported Noah’s Animal House, a shelter’s full-service pet boarding facility that offers a sanctuary for pets that are part of domestic abuse situations.
“We are humbled by the kindness and generosity of Bayer Animal Health in sharing our passion for helping survivors and their pets heal in a safe place. This generous funding comes at an exciting time, as we open a second location for Noah’s Animal House in Nevada, furthering our mission to provide the freedom necessary for survivors and their pets.” – Staci Alonso, founder of Noah’s Animal House
“71% of pet-owning women entering a women’s shelter reported that their attacker injured, maimed, killed, or threatened their pet.”
“We recognize the great need to support domestic violence shelters that care for both survivors and their beloved pets. Survivors of domestic violence should not have to choose between their safety and a loved one, and these shelters make it possible for them to heal in a safe place, without saying goodbye to their pets.” – Lauren Dorsch, senior manager of communications at Bayer Animal Health.
