It can be tempting to share holiday foods with your dog. In some cases, it can make your dog very sick, but there are ten holiday foods that are safe to share with your dog. Stick to this list (in moderation) for a healthy safe holiday menu…
10 Holiday Foods You Can Share With Your Dog
Turkey – When you are dishing up the yummy holiday turkey for you and your family don’t leave out your four-legged friends. Cook for your dog a skinless, white meat turkey.
Cranberries – Pureed fresh cranberries (without sugar) are a great add-in for homemade dog treats or meals. They are great for the urinary tract and packed with antioxidants.
Pumpkin Puree – Pumpkin is one of the best natural ingredients for upset tummies (which happens often for dogs as well as humans during the holidays). It is a great source of fiber and makes a good base for treats or served on its own in a small dish.
Mashed Potatoes – Cooked potatoes are fine if they don’t contain gravy, butter, sour cream, or other heavy mix-ins. Potatoes provide fiber, potassium, and vitamins.
Apples – If you are slicing up apples for a pie, put a few aside to give to your dog. This crunchy treat delivers them a little taste of sweet while helping to clean residue off their teeth. Apples are a great source of fiber and vitamins A and C for your dog, but be sure to keep seeds and cores out of the ones you give your dog.
Veggies – Vegetables like carrots, green beans, broccoli, zucchini, asparagus, and peas are great for your dog. Avoid casseroles and any with salt or garlic added.
Rice – Just like it is for humans, rice is a great bland food for an upset stomach. Serve it without gravy, white or brown, it makes a great base for homemade dog foods.
Bananas – If you are making up a batch of delicious banana nut bread offer your dog a couple slices of fresh banana for a sweet treat that delivers potassium and magnesium.
Cheese – While some dogs are lactose intolerant a small cube of plain cheese or two off the appetizer tray is a delicious and will give them protein and calcium while being an easy to digest snack.
Parsley – While it makes a very pretty plate garnish it also is great for freshening your dog’s breath. Chop a handful and stir it into their regular food or use it in homemade dog treats to improve breath and add calcium and potassium to their food.
oh that seems like a whole menu for peeps&pets… and I will use some parsley… just in case I will meet a girl ;O)
