Are you looking for a pet cat to be part of your family? Consider adopting a shelter cat. June marks a particularly active time for shelters and rescue groups, as it’s the peak of kitten season, when thousands of newborn homeless kittens join other cats available for adoption across the United States. There are cats for every personality in shelters and rescue groups right now, and with each adoption, the number of healthy and treatable pets who lose their lives in shelters each year declines. Currently, about 2.4 million pets still need to find a home each year.
The creators of Garfield and Odie created new PSA’s video and ads for The Shelter Pet Project. These PSA’s are used as a reminder that there are thousands of amazing shelter pets ready to meet their forever home. These videos and other ads help break down misconceptions surrounding shelter pets and spread the word that pets in shelters are wonderful and loveable.

2. Visit TheShelterPetProject.org As a prospective adopters, you can browse through a database of pets available for adoption in their area and learn more about misconceptions around shelter pet adoption as well as about the process of adopting a pet.
3. Did you adopt/rescue your dog or cat? Share a photo or video of your shelter pet in a blog post and/or social media update. Tag your posts with #shelterpetlove and encourage others to visit TheShelterPetProject.org to learn more about pet adoption. By sharing how your shelter pet enhances your life, you can show people who may be hesitant to pick a shelter pet just how rewarding it is to adopt.
4. Are you a Garfield fan? Share any of The Shelter Pet Project ad graphics (on this post) on your social media account and make sure to tag your posts with #shelterpetlove.

6) Merrick and Petco have teamed up to donate high quality meals to pet shelters. For every Merrick can food purchased at Petco (in November and December), a meal will be donated to rescue animals awaiting their forever homes.

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.
There are many dogs living in the shelter. Older/Senior dogs don’t get adopted/fostered as easily as younger dogs. It’s heartbreaking to think of a Senior dog spending his/her last days/months/years without a loving forever home.
