Take Your Dog On A Boat Ride: Chicago Canine Cruise

August 1, 2013

In 10 days I will be 12 years old. I started my Barkday celebration last Sunday on a boat.
I went on a Canine Cruise via Mercury Skyline.
It’s not my first time cruising the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.
My last Canine Cruise was 2 years ago, click here to read it our post.

On A Canine Cruise: Sugar The Golden Retriever

It was a PAWsome Sunday to spend the day in the city. It felt like we were tourist as we cruise for 90 minutes and listened to facts/information about the architects/buildings in Chicago. Mercury Cruiseline offers plenty of safe outdoor-seating. Dogs were allowed to choose to sit on the deck, in a seat, and/or owner’s lap. Dogs were also allowed to walk around the boat. We sat at the back and I had my own seat. I was a well behaved Golden dog and sat most of the boat ride. I simply enjoyed the magnificent tall buildings and skyline.

On Mercury Canine Cruise, Sugar The Golden Retriever

Our favorite part was when we were on Lake Michigan. The tour guide stopped talking for us to enjoy the skyline of Chicago.  The sun disappeared  but the cool breeze felt Golden Good.  The Chicago skyline is renowned as one of the most beautiful in the world. Each building has an interesting story and amazing architecture.

Below is a short video of my Golden Cruise.
Mom took many photos mostly of ME, capturing my Golden Moments …

If you plan to visit Chicago, a boat ride with your dog is a must. The Canine Cruise runs form July – September.  A Canine Cruise with Mercury Chicago’s Skyline Cruiseline is a well spent Summer Splurge for yourself and for your dog.

Cruising The City

July 11, 2011

Where am I?
I am in the City of Chicago.

Why am I here? I’m taking a cruise to see the architectural wonders of the City of Chicago.

Here I am standing at the Michigan Avenue which is known as the Magnificent (Mag) Mile.
Did you know … that it is one of the greatest avenue of the world.

Most recently, the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon was filmed here in Chicago. The Wrigley Building is one the famous building shown in the movie. This building has been recognized as one of the most attractive buildings in Chicago. It is known as the Jewel of the Mag Mile.

Behind me is the Chicago Tribune Building and the Chicago River. Chicago Tribune building is an eye-catching neo-gothic skyscraper located at prominent Michigan Avenue (Magnificent (Mag) Mile).
Tribune Building was built after the Cathedral of Rouen’s Butter Tower.
Many of Chicago’s greatest buildings border the Chicago River, making the river ideal for an architectural boat cruise/tour. From my photo  above, you’ll see the river’s  greenish water. The City of Chicago dyes the river green every March for St. Patrick’s Day. Well, it’s already July and the water is still kind a green. Oh!Well…

Here’s the boat that accommodate dogs and their humans to cruise About the Cruise: It is called “The Canine Cruise” managed by Mercury’s Chicago’s Skyline Cruiseline. It’s a 90 minute guided tour of Chicago’s famous achitectural skyline on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.
The cruise runs during the months of July-September.

There were about 25 dogs + their humans joining us on our cruise. Many choose to sit in front of the boat but most of the big/larger dogs (that’s ME)  sat on the back of the boat.
The boat has large doggy bowls of water and a designated lined paper. Dogs have an option to sit on their human’s lap, in a seat, or on the deck.
Guess what I choose …
Got my own seat where I can stretch out.
All Aboard!!!

It was a sunny warm day but there was a cool lake breeze and it felt great. I was well behaved during the cruise, sat, listened to the tour guide and enjoyed the architectural scenery of the city.
The part I love the most was when the boat goes under a bridge. We passed about 6 bridges that can actually go up and down to accommodate large/tall boats passing by.

I give the Canine Cruise 4 Golden PAWS.
It was a delightful Golden Fun ride. My human family also enjoyed the cruise and learned something new about Chicago.
After the cruise, we dined at O’Briens Riverwalk Cafe. Very nice waiter immediately brought me  ice water with lots of ice.(I’ll show my ice water photo this coming Wordless Wednesday).

Our view was the Chicago River and a very shiny building known as the Trump International Hotel and Towers. Facts about the building: It was constructed on the site formerly occupied by the Chicago Sun-Times, one of the city’s two major newspapers. It’s unique asymetric shape gives the building a different appearance from each angle and facade gives the building’s surface an impression of depth.
PAWsomely a Golden FUN Day to see some of Chicago’s architectural wonders.

Lots of Golden Woofs,
