Tasty Tuesday: Welcoming Rice n Chicken Meal

After a long flight last week (3/27), I was super hungry.
We waited for a long time for our luggage particularly mine … but it was no where to find.
The airline misplaced it (according to the computer it never left LAX airport).
Of all the luggage why MINE … I guess it had to pass different inspections.
My luggage must have smelled Golden Good!.

Well, when we arrived the only store that carries my food was closed.
My mom had to think quickly what to feed me caused I was super hungry.

I got a special welcoming meal, Rice n Chicken (usually my special meal when I’m sick).
Oh it was TASTY.
The rice was super soft, easy to chew/swallow.
RICE is one of the staple foods in Hawaii.
The chicken was extra moist and fully flavored.
I got to eat the same meal in the morning too.
Wowie! ONO !!!
It was truly a special welcoming meal.

Tasty Treat Thursday: Apple Carrot Honey Oats

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year!

In honor of 2011 Year of the Rabbit,

one of the main ingredients are Carrots.

Benefits of Carrots

1) Low Calorie Dog Treat

2) Helps in Teeth Cleaning
3) Freshens Breath

4) Promotes Weight Loss

5) Valuable Part of a High Fiber Diet

Apple Carrot Honey Oats

Ingredients

1 Apple – Mashed or Puree (can substitute with Apple sauce)

2 Carrots – Shredded

3 Cups of Flour (use additional ~1 cup if needed)

1 Cup of Oats

1 1/3 Cups of Water

1/4 Cups of Vegetable Oil

1-2 Tablespoon of Honey

Combine and stir all the ingredients. Adjust flour and liquid as necessary to make stiff dough. Roll the dough on a floured surface. Cut it with a dough cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet (we always use silpat). Bake for 2 1/2-3 hours in 250 degree oven until thoroughly dry. For extra crunchy, leave the treats inside the oven to cool-off.

This recipe was created based on my mom’s favorite granola bar.

For this recipe, HONEY can be Absolutely Optional.

You have two options on how to include Honey in this recipe 1) mix it with all the ingredients OR 2) drizzle some on the last hour of baking (which is what we did).

Happy October Tasty Treat: Pumpkin Dog Treats

It’s October and my 2nd Blogversary is on Sunday, 10/10/10.

A special celebration is planned for this weekend.

What I LOVE about October … PUMPKIN.

Pumpkin is a squash fruit.

The fiber content of pumpkin is useful in the treatment and maintenance of intestinal/digestive illness of dogs. Pumpkin is also simply a healthful dietary supplement for your dogs. Lots of Pumpkins currently available that you can make tasty treats for your dogs.

This recipe requires pumpkin puree. How to prepare the pumpkin? Believe it or not you may use the mini pumpkins.

We got ours at the farmer’s market.

Wash n Cut the pumpkin in half.

Scoop the seeds with a spoon.

Double boiler or a steamer works best to cook the pumpkins.

Once cook, scoop the insides (discarding skin) and puree it.

Here’s the rest of the recipe …

Pumpkin Dog Treats

2 small pumpkins = ~1 cup of puree pumpkin

~2 1/2 flour

1 1/2 cup of oats

1 1/2 tsp of cimmamon

2 tbs of honey

1 tbs of oil

2/3 cup of water

Combine and stir all the ingredients.

Adjust the flour and liquid as necessary to make stiff dough. Roll on floured cutting board to 3/8″ thick.

Cut the dough with a pumpkin cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 3 to 3 1/2 hours in a 250 degree oven until thoroughly dry.

I waited for a long time but it’s worthwhile.

TODAY: My 9th Birthday

Woof! Woof!

I’m 9 years old today. (~61 years old in human years)

I started celebrating my 9th Barkday 3 days ago.

Lots of delish treats, pampering and loving.

My special meal for the day will be

Chicken n Rice Sweet Potato

Ingredients:

Cooked Ground Chicken

Carrots (shredded)

Spinach (finely chopped)

Sweet Potato (mashed)

Rice (cooked) and Chick Peas (chopped) optional

Combine all ingredients (except for Sweet Potato). Form a patty (like a hamburger). The rice n chick peas are use as binding ingredients. You many use eggs as a substitute. Baked the patties for about ~15-20 minutes at 300 degrees. Combine two patties with sweet potato in the middle.

Mom only made two petite patties for me. The rest of the ingredients were made for human consumption. I do recommend that you include some of your dog’s regular dog food to this recipe especially if your dog does not regularly eat this kind of meal.

Bloggieversary Gift and Meal

I know everyone must be anticipating to find out what I ate on my Blog Anniversary. Let me just say – I was awarded with not a treat but a meal. It was an unexpected Pawlicious meal.

Before I share my yummy meal, I would like to thank everyone – all my friends and followers especially from blogger, facebook, twitter and dogster. Your continued kind wishes and support makes me very happy and motivates me to share life as Sugar the Golden Retriever.Gratitude to everyone. Lots of Golden Thanks.

So here it is .. Oh wait! I have to share how this meal come about. My mom has ben very conscious on the kind of foods I eat due to my allergies and since I’m getting older. In general, she just wants me to be a happy and healthy dog. Since, mom loves to cook treats for me, my friends Frankie and Olive’s mom gave me this book. “The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs”

Lots of Golden Thanks to Frankie, Olive and their mom, Lisa. LOVE the book and for sure my mom will be making lots more meals and treats.

Chicken n Rice Stew is what I had. Mom did a modification on the recipe (which she recommends especially if you are not comfortable on the ingredients stated on the recipe). It was a very appropriate meal for fall weather. The combination of chicken and rice was surely soothing ingredients for my tummy.

Please note that this recipe meal is meant to mix with your dry food meal. Just like any recipe, make the necessary modification of ingredients and cooking process. My mom’s recipe modification are stated on red text. Here’s the recipe. Enjoy!

Chicken n Rice Stew

Ingredients

One 2 1/2 lb package chicken legs

2 quarts water

1 cup rice

One 28 ounce can diced tomatoes in juice (2 large fresh tomatoes)

One 28 cam chicken broth

4 potatoes, peeled and chopped (2 large sweet potatoes)

4 carrots, peeled and sliced

1 cup macaroni (optional)

One 24 ounce package frozen peas (optional)

Directions

1.Place chicken legs in baking dish and place in a preheated 375F. Roast for 30 minutes, then turn chicken legs and roast an additional 15 to 20 minutes. When slightly cooled, remove meat from bones and set aside. Meanwhile, add enough water to cover drippings in the baking dish; return to enough water to cover drippings in the baking dish; return to oven 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from oven. Using a spoon, loosen any brown bits on the bottom or sides of pan. reserve this liquid. (Bones may be discarded)

2. Bring 2 cups of water to boil over high heat in a 3 quart saucepan. Add rice, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until all water has been absorbed. Set aside.

3. Meanwhile, place tomatoes with juice, remaining 6 cups of water, and chicken broth in an 8 quart stockpot. Bring to boil over high heat.

4. Add potatoes and carrots. Reduce heat to medium-high and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.

5. Add macaroni and cook, stirring frequently, for additional 10 minutes.

6. Remove from heat and stir in peas, cooked rice, cooked chicken, and any reserved liquid. Makes 8 quarts.
