It’s finally feeling like Fall in Southern California, sunny days and cooler nights. We do miss Midwest Fall weather, and we have to be creative in finding fun activities to do with SUGAR.

7 Fall Fun Activities With Your Dog + Safety Tips
1. Visit A New Park
We discovered a new park that has maple trees. The leaves are starting to change color. It’s not as colorful, but it surely made us appreciate everything around us.
Keep your dog from leaf piles or walking on a lawn covered with fall leaves. Molds on Fall leaves can bring on dog allergies.
2. Pumpkin Picking
Take your dog to a dog-friendly pumpkin patch. SUGAR had so much fun visiting dog friendly Bates Nut Farm, known for being the largest and most famous pumpkin patch in San Diego.
Many pumpkin patch events include farm animals. Bates Nut Farms had chicken, ducks, llamas, ducks, donkeys, goats, and turkeys. Be respectful and always keep your dog on a leash.
3. Nature Walk
We love going on a long nature walk and visiting the pond. SUGAR loves watching the ducks and pelicans.
During Fall, many wild highly poisonous mushrooms are popping up. On your walks keep your dog on a leash and it’s important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Sleepypod Clickit Sport can be used as a walking harness.
4. PLAY
Enjoy the cooler weather, PLAY With Your Dog! Play is a great activity for you and your dog. Playing and having fun with your dog strengthens your bond. This time of the year, SUGAR enjoys playing ‘football’ fetch.
Avoid playing “jumping” games with your dog especially while holding a toy or treat in the air. Your dog might find these games fun, but it can create a bad habit of jumping.
5. Weekend Day Trip
Take your dog on a dog-friendly day trip. Our favorite weekend trip is going to San Diego. It’s about an hour car drive (1 1/2 hour with traffic). We recently visited dog-friendly Balboa Park, a 1200-acre urban cultural park, and a very popular tourist attraction.
Keep your dog safe in the car, Buckle Up! SUGAR is always safe with Sleepypod ClickIt Sport dog travel harness.
6. PAWticipate In An Event
Many seasonal fun events are happening in several cities. For the second year, we participated in a Fit Foodie Run 5k event. SUGAR ‘will run for food’ and she did it!
Assess your dog’s health before joining a dog-friendly 5k event. Always check with your veterinarian.
7. Make New Friends
We met many pawsome friends on social media, especially on Instagram. It was great to meet up with some of our Golden Retriever pals. SUGAR had a pawsome beach day and making new Golden Pals.
For some dogs, meet up or playdates with other dogs can be overwhelming. Make the right assessment if your dog really wants to have a “buddy” playmate. Meet-up at a place where your dog is comfortable. Never force your dog to interact and keep a watchful eye during your meet-up or playdate.
