This Cheesy Cinnamon Apple Dog Treat was inspired by our recent trip to the State of Wisconsin, known for their cheese. My family bought several cheese and one of them was Cinnamon Apple Jack.
Upon tasting this cheese, my doggie chef mom said “Sugar you will love this. Let’s make a doggie treat using the same ingredients.”
Woof! Woof! What a great idea!!!

We gathered all the ingredients plus added a wonderful ingredient called flaxseed. What are flaxseed? Is flaxseed safe for dogs?
Flaxseeds are the seeds of an annual plant. It is used for both textile fiber and nutrition. From our research, flaxseeds are considered by many to be healthy and have significant benefits for a dog’s fiber/antioxidants consumption, skin/coat, cardiovascular, treatment for constipation and is used to prevent cancer. Many vets recommend the addition of ground/oil flaxseed to a dog’s regular food for it’s benefits, and also because heavier stools will help evacuate the dog’s anal sacs, preventing impaction. As always, we recommend that you consult with your veterinarian before giving your dog flaxseed.

This dog treat recipe does not contain eggs or oil.
We have received many emails asking if it is possible to make dog treats with no eggs and oil. Absolutely … you just have to make proper adjustments with the ingredients particularly the amount of flour and water you’ll be adding. Also, make a point that you include an ingredient that contains water. In this recipe, apple is included which contains 80%-85% of water. Here’s the recipe which makes 30 large dog bones. Enjoy!
Cheesy Cinnamon Apple Dog Treat
1 1/2 cups of flour (use additional ~1/2 cup if needed)
1/2 cup of shredded cheese (Cheddar and Monterey Jack)
2 small apples (1diced, 1 finely chopped)
1 tbs cinnamon
1 tsp ground flaxseed
1 1/3 cups of water

Combine and stir all the ingredients. Adjust flour and liquid as necessary to make stiff dough. Roll the dough on a floured surface. Cut it with bone shaped cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet (we always use silpat). Bake for 2 1/2-3 hours in 250 degree oven until thoroughly dry. For extra crunchy, leave the treats inside the oven to cool-off.
Delish treats for the holiday season.
Lots of Golden Woofs,
