Nani is a Hawaiian word pronounced nah-knee.
It is means beautiful, splendid and/or pretty.

Our temporary home is located on a farm of Protea Flowers.
There are about 9 different kinds of Protea flowers on the farm. I’ll be sharing 5 of them.

Brief Facts about Protea Flowers
Protea flowers are the world’s most unusual flowers.
Native to South America.
These flowers grow well here in Maui, particularly upcountry Kula (where I live).

Protea flowers was named after the Greek God Proteus,
who got the ability to change shape/form at his will.
Protea flowers are known to have a diverse array of colors, shapes, textures and sizes.

Giving Protea flowers to someone conveys love, sympathy, joy and best wishes.

We enjoy waking up in the  morning and see all these Protea flowers.
My mom loves seeing the growth process and taking photos. ENJOY!

This is a Red Pincushion Protea.
Layered and feathered bracts with a deep rich pink color turning to soft white tips.
There are times they grow in a bundle of 2 or 3. It’s amazingly cool.

This is a High Gold Protea.
It has a very bright florescent yellow pincushion flower head.

This is a Mayday Protea.
Layered and feathered bracts with a deep rich pink color.
Mayday is typically used as a center piece flower .

This is a Safari Sunset Protea.
Summer is considered the blooming season for the cone flowers surrounded by large colorful bracts. It’s deep wine/burgundy colors definitely provides great accents.

This is an Orange Frost Protea.
It’s a large cone flower predominately soft white.
The leaves are long rickrack, do you see it?
It looks like they were cut with a pinky shears.

Here’s a flower bouquet with a King Protea, known as The King of all Flowers.
This bouquet was given to me and my mom from one of our customer.
Mom made two special collars for their dogs.

We enjoyed learning about Protea flowers and sharing to all of you.
They are magical and we are blessed to be able to see their beauty everyday.
