It’s been 30 days since I moved here in Maui, HI. Many of you have asked how I got here.
Well, moving to a new place especially in Hawaii was a long process and takes lots of patience.
Moving to Hawaii requires quarantine. Hawaii is the only state in the US that is rabies free.
120 days is the standard quarantine time.
First I had to go to the vet and get checked.
Making sure my rabies/vaccinations shots are current and my microchip properly placed.
My vet also had screened me for FAVN test. Remember this post, click here. I actually had to go twice because I was supposed to fast in order for the FAVN test to be correct.
We had to wait for about a week to get the result form the FAVN test. Since I am a service dog, my mom had to submit several required documentation to Hawaii’s department of Agriculture.
Once we got the approval we had to inform them of our flight information. We had to wait about 2 weeks for the permit to arrive in the mail in which I had to attached it on my sd vest. 7 days before my flight, I had to go again to the vet, click here for my post. It’s the final physical check up and more paperwork need to be filled out by my vet.
We are very lucky that Hawaii recently changed their requirements for pet release arriving in specific HI island. Hawaii does not require a pet to arrive first in Ohau. However, your pet still needs to be check by Hawaiian Agriculture representative. One option that my family did was to hire the services of a local animal clinic to help us with the required papers and releasing me when I arrived in Maui. Remember the more paperwork that my vet had to filled out… important papers that we had to show/submit to the release doctor representative. I did not have any issues as everything was all good. It only took about 10 minutes and I was good to go … that’s the time my mom placed a lei on me for my official time of arrival in Maui, Hi my new home.
YES I took 2 plane rides, Chicago – LA and LA to Maui. I got my doggy blanket to lay in the plane. It was a very comfortable trip especially LA to Maui. I got great first class service from the flight crew. I slept most of the time. I took a potty break when I was in LA. Yes FAA did check me and had no issues going through security check by myself.
Here are some of the photos taken during my trip from Chicago, IL – Maui, HI
