Mellow Monday

March 1, 2010

I am having a relaxing Monday.
A Happy Mellow March Monday.

I am joining my mom for her Mellow Monday.
Remember, I told you she has been busy not only with work but preparing for an event that she participated yesterday. For five years my mom belongs to a prestigious group that participate in a Stair Climbing event. Yesterday, her team participated in the
13th Hustle Up The Hancock.
Quick facts about the John Hancock Building:
It was built from 1965-169 and it cost $95,000,000. It is considered as a Skyscaper with 100 stories. It is the 16th tallest building in the world and Chicago’s 3rd tallest building. The restaurant on the 95th floor is where President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle had their first date (mom just had to share this FUN fact). Anyway, the event was for a great cause and to climb 94 floors / 1632 stairs (from the lobby to the observation deck). Mom and her team had an exciting time. You might wonder how long does one take to climb 94 floors / 1632 stairs? Well, this year the elite climbers took between 9:30 – 15:30 (minutes:seconds). Mom did great and is very happy with her time which is 19:55 (nineteen minutes and fifty five seconds).
Just in case your “humans” are interested in Stair Climbing, here are some facts. Stair climbing is one of the most grueling sports, requiring participants to move their entire body weight vertically, instead of horizontally.  It requires less time to do and burns about twice as many calories than any other sport or activity. It is truly a total body workout that requires endurance, sprint, and muscular strength to finished in a fast time.
My family is fairly active, fit and health conscious,
just imagine the kind of fun workouts we do together.
I’m looking forward to it … just waiting for Spring to come sooner.
Here are more photos of the City of Chicago from the observatory deck.

The average adult takes 15 to 20 breaths a minute –
over 20,000 breaths a day.
Lots of Golden Woofs,

Stair climbing is indeed a great workout. I've ran up and down stairs for 25 years of working. There was an elevator, but I chose the stairs.

Have a terrific day Sugar. 🙂

What cool things to share! Mom actually picked me up on her way back to Ohio from her very first trip to Chicago! She loved the city (stayed at the Ritz near the Watertower), including staring at the amazing Hancock building! To imagine climing all the way to the top under your own power – makes us tired just to think of it! How lucky you & your humans are to live near such an amazing city!! We are itching to get out & get some exercise too!

We are so proud of you Mom. Our mom probably could make maybe 10 floors.
She walks the stairs at work. They go up to the 7th floor 2 times. Of course she has been slacking lately. She needs to get back into that, right MOM?

  36. KT and Lady says

    March 2, 2010 at 11:39 PM

Hi Sugar, Lady here, we agree with your Mom, stair climbing is a terrific way to exercise. Dad loves to run the stairs at the local stadium, but complains about having to run down (he prefers elevators)!! He says it would be good for me, but I like sniffing around the track instead of running up silly stairs. My figure is foxy enough!!

  37. Jan's Funny Farm says

    March 3, 2010 at 4:41 AM

Those are a lot of steps she climbed.

  38. Bobby says
