Kapalua is located at the far west tip of the island of Maui.
It’s one of our favorite places. WHY?
Beautiful Paths to walk, Beautiful Beaches to swim/snorkle/bodysurf/surf
and Beautiful Breathtaking Views.
In Hawaiian, Kapalua poetically means “arms embracing the sea.”
In the 1800’s Kapalua was known as the Honolua Ranch and then the Honolua Plantation.
Today the 23,000-acre are known as the Kapalua Resort, and the home of the Ritz-Carlton.
Kapalua is also known as “golf is king.”
It is the home of two prestigious golf courses, the Plantation Course, and the Bay Course.
I often watch the golfers on our walks. I blog about it last October, click here.
Kapalua’s logo the butterfly is one of the most famous and recognizable of any resort in the world. Look closely and you’ll see a pineapple inside the butterfly. The Kapalua logo symbolizes the incredible metamorphosis of the pineapple plantation into one of the most renowned resort that is here today.
Kapalua is also know for their award winning three white-sand beaches, one of which was named “The Best Beach in America.” It’s my mom’s favorite beach. Will share more about it on a later post. You can see a glimpse of the beach on my holiday photo shoot post.
There are several hiking trails that are open to the public and yes they allow dogs (on a leash). One our favorite trail is the Coastal. Below is the sneak peak photo.
Will share more on a later post the Kapalua Coastal Trail.
For the meantime, I’ve created my own Sugar’s Walking Trail where the paths encompasses the Cook Island Pines. I’m certain you are wondering how pine trees originated in Maui, Hawaii. It started in the early 1900’s when a Scotsman named David Thomas Fleming, an avid horticulturist planted the majestic Cook and Norfolk pines along Kapalua’s roads. Moisture in the ground makes the pine trees grow in Kapalua and has become a distinction. Some of the pine trees are reaching some 200 feet into the sky, We just love it, its beautiful.
Kapalua has first-class accommodation and dining, white-sand award winning beaches, beautiful walking/hiking trails and prestigious golf courses. If you plan to visit Maui, Hawaii, Kapalua is a must place to stay or visit.

Oh Sugar, your travelogues make me want to move! Aloha!!
Sugars tour is the only one I will ever have, since I don’t fly or float… unless they get to the point where I can say beam me to Hawaii Scotty
Hey Sugar, Jet here.
We LOVED the tour, thank you… It sure seems that Maui is quite K9 friendly. 🙂
What a beautiful place! How lucky you are to experience it and thanks for sharing!
What lovely photos! Sugar, you are SO lucky to live in such beauty, and SO lucky to have wonderful humans to give you such beaufitul walks.
Beauiful photos, Sugar! You and your mom are so lucky to have so many wonderful places to go walking. Coop would be jealous of all that beautiful water to go swimming in! Have a great weekend!
You always look so happy but then again your photos make HI look very inviting but as a dog I will never see it. Mom has been many times but likes winter too much to live there – nice to visit though.
Wow Sugar, how do you ever go back inside? So much beauty out there…
Kisses,
Ruby
The Hawaii people really should hire you Sugar to promote the beauty of this place. You are a wonderful tour guide.

It’s beautiful there and they get an A+ in my book since they allow dogs. I love the logo with the pineapple in the middle. Very clever
