I went on Golden FUN city adventure along the Chicago Cultural Mile (S. Michigan Avenue). It’s the last weekend of the Giant Chia Heads (Heads on Parade). I saw 13 Giant Planters in the form of Chia Heads. There are 14 planters in total, 1 Chia Head is located in N. Michigan Avenue.
It’s a project created by Plant Green Ideas in conjunction with the Chicago Cultural Mile Association.
It’s purpose is to “provide educational content that will articulate actions that everyone can take to be more environmentally conscious and an opportunity to engage Chicagoans and tourists alike and inspire them to think about our environment through art, social interaction, and education.”
Each Giant Chia Head is sponsored with a special advertising message on the back of the neck.
The sponsored Giant Chia Head planters are also interactive as each Chia Head has a QRcode.
The Giant Chia Head planters are ~11 feet tall and ~2700 lbs.
The Giant Chia Head planters are built from recycled aluminum, steel and sustainable concrete materials.
I had Lots of Golden FUN. What a great Plant Green Idea and it sure made many tourist admire more about the city of Chicago. It’s hard to decide which Chia Head is my favorite as each planter made its own artistic impression and message.

These are PAWSOME!!! Are they edible? I eat Chia seeds. Those plants don’t look like Chia sprouts, Sugar. I’m glad they’re up high so you can’t eat them. 😉

LOVE dog friendly art exhibits! And this is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. So great!
Chicago likes to put some weird stuff on their streets, don’t they! Momma said when she lived there, they had the first Cow Parade, and then they did big pieces of furniture! It makes for some pretty interesting things to look at when you’re walking.
Oh wow… how FUN are those!?! Love all the pics!
