As a pre-15th Barkday celebration, we took SUGAR to visit Los Angeles and stayed in dog friendly Westin Bonaventure, known as an iconic building. The Westin Bonaventure’s shiny cylinder towers with thrilling exterior otis glass elevators were designed by architect John C. Portman Jr.
The Westin Bonaventure is one of the tallest building in Los Angeles. The amazing structure is made up of cylindrical mirrored-glass towers. It is one of the ten most photographed buildings in the world. Why? Its construction is very impressive.
The building is visible from many parts of downtown Los Angeles. As we toured buildings in downtown Los Angeles, I took several photos of Westin Bonaventure from different viewpoints … of course featuring SUGAR.
Make Your Dog Feel Like A Star
The Westin Bonaventure is a famous featured hotel in many Hollywood movies and shows. Some Hollywood films/shows shot at Westin Bonaventure are:
1) 1998 Oscar winning drama “Rain Man” with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise filmed at the pool deck overlooking the cylinder glass towers 3) Clint Eastwood’s 1993 thriller “In The Line of Fire” featured the hotel lobby and glass elevator
2)”True Lies” where they shot Arnold Schwarzenegger riding a horse inside the Westin Otis Elevator
3) 1995 Johnny Depp thriller “Nick of Time” featured Westin Bonaventure famous 34th floor Bona Vista Lounge, a revolving rooftop lounge
4) a futuristic film location for the TV show “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.”
5) Cameron Crowe’s current new Showtime TV series ‘Roadies’ utilized Westin Bonaventure lobby and suite rooms.

Dog Friendly Westin Bonaventure
As a platinum Starwood member, SUGAR is a lucky dog to experienced luxurious stays at the Westin Bonaventure. We had a great view from the 31st floor. SUGAR enjoyed the spacious room and love the Westin heavenly bed. The decor of our suite room is very minimal and complimented the hotel’s nostalgic look.
The dark brown color scheme, low lighting plus the natural concrete wall of the Westin Bonaventure lobby added to the nostalgia. The main features of the lobby are the pools and fish fountain which provided a tranquil atmosphere.
A convenient grassy area is located on the fourth floor; plus another great view and photo opp of Westin Bonaventure.
SUGAR was not amazed about the glass elevator. I think SUGAR sensed that I’m afraid of heights. The elevator rides were fearful especially going up. Sugar kept her eyes focused on the elevator door, making the elevator ride less fearful.
If you plan to visit downtown Los Angeles, “look up at the exterior” of the Westin Bonaventure. This iconic building takes up an entire block, allowing multiple angles for you to view the mirrored glass cylinders.

Totally agree about the glass elevators …. BOL Marie and family ????????????
Oh wow that hotel is made for a golden superstar like you… I’m also not a friend of elevators, so my dad and me had to use the stairs… and because I was too young he had to carry me :o)
Great photos, the hotel looks awesome. Thanks for the post!
Hey Sugar – no dip in the famous pool? LOL Looks like a really sweet weekend!
SUGAR the building has an impressive exterior. My mom agrees…the interior needs to be brightened up to match. Same experience with the elevator! Hugs and kisses!
Its really amazing compilation of imagination, very huge architecture with all the facilities. Thank you very much for introduce this building here with us.
What a stunning hotel! I’d be scared in that elevator and my Husky Icy would not appreciate it At All, she doesn’t like elevators to begin with. These photos are so stunning, beautiful place. I’ve seen a couple of those movies but I don’t recall seeing this building in them – I’ll have to take a second look!
