Looking for a fall adventure to enjoy with your dog? Pumpkins & Pups is coming to Hana Field by Tanaka Farms on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10 AM to 6 PM! This special Dog Day welcomes pups and their people for seasonal fun in Costa Mesa.

KB & KENZO had the privilege of getting a sneak peek before the event. They explored the flower fields, checked out the dinosaurs, and stopped for photos at the fall photo stations.

What to Expect at Pumpkins & Pups

Enjoy the seasonal pumpkin patch, colorful flower fields, and dinosaur-themed Jurassic Fright Corn Maze. There will also be vendors with products and goodies geared toward dogs and dog parents.

Your dog can dress up, too! With plenty of photo opportunity stations set up, you’ll have lots of chances to capture your pup’s fall look. Choose a comfortable costume that lets your dog move freely and stay cool.

Keep Your Pup Comfortable and Follow the Rules

October days in Southern California can still be hot. Hana Field has provided shaded spots where dogs and their humans can rest and take a break for water and treats. Bring water, a portable bowl, treats, poop bags, and a leash, and give your dog breaks throughout your visit.

Dogs are not allowed to visit the farm animals. Please respect this rule and keep your pup out of the farm animal area so everyone—including the animals who live there—can enjoy a comfortable day.

This year, KB & KENZO finally got to enjoy Dog Days at Hana Field in Costa Mesa, CA. We missed it in the past when they first started inviting dogs to explore the flower field, so I was so happy we were able to attend this time.

It turned out to be such a sweet and memorable outing. Hana Field was beautiful, peaceful, and very well thought out. The flower field made the perfect backdrop for a short local adventure with the dogs, and of course, KB & KENZO loved exploring one sniff at a time.

A Local Dog-Friendly Adventure in Costa Mesa

Dog Days at Hana Field was a fun way to enjoy the outdoors with KB & KENZO. They were able to walk through the flower field, take in all the scents, and enjoy a different kind of adventure close to home.

As dog parents, we always appreciate places that create special opportunities for dogs to join in. Dog Days felt like one of those events made for both people and pups — a chance to slow down, enjoy the flowers, and let the dogs explore a beautiful outdoor space.

For KB & KENZO, it was all about sniffing the blooms, walking through the field, and enjoying the day with their peeps.

Hana Field is part of Tanaka Farms, a Japanese American family farm with a long history in Southern California. According to Tanaka Farms’ story, the farm’s roots began with Takeo Tanaka, an Issei, or first-generation Japanese American, who immigrated from Hiroshima, Japan, in the early 1900s. His family continued farming through the generations, including Farmer Grandpa George, a Nisei, or second-generation Japanese American, and later Farmer Tanaka, a Sansei, or third-generation Japanese American.

Knowing that history makes the name Hana Field feel even more special. It is not just a flower field — it is part of a family farm with deep roots, history, and a love for sharing farm experiences with the community.

What Is Dog Days at Hana Field?

Once a year, Hana Field hosts Dog Days, a special event where dogs are invited to explore the flower field with their families.

During Dog Days, pups can walk through the blooms, enjoy the outdoor space, and meet other dog-friendly visitors. The event also includes dog vendors, which makes it even more fun for dog parents.

It is such a nice way to experience the flower field with your dog, especially if your pup enjoys being outdoors, exploring new places, and taking in all the interesting scents.

For KB & KENZO, the flower field was full of new smells, beautiful views, and lots of little moments worth remembering.

1. Keep your dog leashed

3. Bring water

Our Favorite Part – Dog Days at Hana Field

Our favorite part of Dog Days at Hana Field was watching KB & KENZO explore the flowers.

They sniffed, walked, posed for a few photos, and enjoyed being part of a local dog-friendly adventure. It was simple, but those are often the moments that mean the most.

The flower field was beautiful, and seeing the dogs enjoy it made it even more special.

Golden FUN Dog Days at Hana Field

Dog Days at Hana Field is a sweet local adventure for dog parents looking for something fun and different to do with their dogs.

It gives dogs a chance to explore a beautiful flower field and enjoy new scents. For us, it was a memorable outing with KB & KENZO and a reminder that dog-friendly adventures do not always have to be big — sometimes a flower field, a leash, and a happy dog are enough.

Car shows are very popular in Southern California, with many proud owners showing off their classic cars. We had the chance to attend one of the most popular SoCal events—the VW Bus Car Show. It was held at the Huntington Beach Pier Plaza, and since Huntington Beach, CA is known for being dog-friendly, we brought our golden retriever, Kenzo, along for the fun.

How VW Bus Car Show Started

I was told by one of the VW Bus owners, Don Ramsey’s The Kowabunga Van Klan started Vintage VW bus shows at Huntington Beach Pier in May 2015.

Interestingly, the (VW) Volkswagen Bus is also known as the Volkswagen Type 2 and is often referred to as the Microbus, Kombi, or Transporter.

The idea for the VW Bus came from a simple sketch inspired by a cargo vehicle that Ben Pon saw at a VW plant. He designed the VW Bus, and it was introduced in Germany in 1950.

Super Fun VW Bus Car Show: Dog-Friendly Fun in Huntington Beach, CA

The weather was perfect, and we truly enjoyed spending two hours checking out all these cool and vintage VW Buses. It was such a delight meeting and chatting with the passionate VW Bus owners. Our dog Kenzo soaked up all the love and pets from them, too! It was an awesome car show, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.

There are so many beautiful parks, trails, and gardens that we often visit. One of our favorites is the dog-friendly Niguel Botanical Preserve.

Discover the Natural Beauty of Niguel Botanical Preserve in Laguna Niguel, California

The Niguel Botanical Preserve is a hidden nature gem in Orange County.

This botanical preserve began in 1981 as a community space for education and enjoyment. Now, it is thriving, and many visitors appreciate its tranquility.

The Niguel Botanical Preserve is a non-profit organization managed by many wonderful volunteers (We met some of them on our walk). It also receives funds from donations, memberships, sponsors, and community support.

It is an amazing 18-acre public garden where you can see plants from the five Mediterranean climate regions of the world, such as :
1) countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea
2) California and parts of Baja California
3) Central Chile
4) West Cape of South Africa
5) Southern and Southwestern Australia

The plants from these regions are planted in the Niguel Botanical Preserve, serving as an inspiration for all Californians. These plants can be grown both at home and in commercial gardens, demonstrating that water can be conserved while still creating a beautiful garden.

How To Get To Niguel Botanical Preserve?

The Niguel Botanical Preserve is located at 29751 Crown Valley Pkwy, Laguna Niguel, California. It is situated within Crown Valley Park (above the grass amphitheater).

There are multiple entrances on how to get to Niguel Botanical Preserve. The best way is to park by the lot of Crown Valley Park.

How Much Does It Cost To Visit?

Besides being dog-friendly, this botanical garden is also free for the public. It is open year-round from sunrise to sunset; 7 am -7 pm.

Are Dogs Allowed at Niguel Botanical Preserve?

Yes, dogs are allowed at the Niguel Botanical Preserve. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Off-leash is not permitted.

Visiting Dog-Friendly Niguel Botanical Preserve

We love walking the well-maintained trails at the Niguel Botanical Preserve, usually visiting in the morning on weekends. The well-thought-out design and layout of the preserve make it an enjoyable learning experience, especially with the informative insights about the plants. There are benches and shaded areas where you can enjoy the garden and breathtaking views of the city of Laguna Niguel. Additionally, there are fun sculptures for photo opportunities—we particularly love the butterflies.

It’s wonderful that the Botanical Preserve allows dogs, so it’s important for all dog owners to follow these two key rules: keep your dog on a leash at all times and clean up after your dog.

I love gardening and learning about plants, so walking at the Niguel Botanical Preserve is a real treat, made even more delightful because I can bring my dogs.

The Bunnyhenge is a popular attraction at Newport Beach’s Civic Center Park. Especially during springtime, many visitors flock to Orange County, also known as “The OC”, specifically to see the Bunnyhenge in Newport Beach. Why? It’s a delightful place to witness and capture photos with an 8-foot bunny and 14 bunnies each standing at a height of 3 feet.

Newport Beach Civic Center Park

The Civic Center Park in Newport Beach spans 16 acres and is the city’s fifth-largest park. This park features restored wetlands, 1.23 miles of walking trails, a dog park, a sculptures exhibit, and a civic lawn for outdoor events.

How to Get to Newport Beach Civic Center Park?

Newport Beach Civic Center Park is located at 100 Civic Center Drive in Newport Beach, CA.
It’s located near the entrance to Fashion Island, just off MacArthur Boulevard, nestled between Avocado and MacArthur in Newport Beach.

Where to Park at Newport Beach Civic Center Park?

You can park at the parking structure as you enter the park. There are also additional parking spaces on the other side of the library. Additionally, there are limited parking spots near the dog park.

Are Dogs Allowed at Newport Beach Civic Center Park?

Yes, in fact, at the north end of the park (located north of San Miguel Road), there is the city’s only dog park with two separate areas for big and small dogs to play.

Bunnyhenge at Civic Center Park in Newport Beach

Civic Center Park in Newport Beach was designed by the Berkeley landscape architectural firm Peter Walker and Partners (PWP Landscape Architecture).

The park features a larger-than-life white stone rabbit, inspired by Alice in Wonderland and representing a departure from traditional playground designs. Additionally, there are 14 bunnies, each standing about 3 feet tall, arranged in a circle at the north end of the park.

These bunnies stirred up controversy due to their $221,000 price tag. Newport Beach residents’ tax dollars funded these bunnies, and not everyone was pleased with that. The locals have nicknamed these bunnies Bunnyhenge

Even with the controversy, Bunnyhenge has continued to charm many visitors since its installation in 2013, standing out from other sculptures in the park.

Hidden Gem Bunnyhenge at Civic Center Park in Newport Beach CA

Since we moved to the neighborhood in 2015, we often walk at Civic Center Park and visit Bunnyhenge. In the early years, during springtime and Easter, it was so much fun to watch as many neighborhood kids hung eggs and flowers on the 3-foot-tall bunnies.

Also, Bunnyhenge has become a must-see spot in Newport Beach, CA. Taking a photo at Bunnyhenge has become a worthy social Instagram photo to share.

The Bunnyhenge has also become a popular meet-up spot. For us, it’s a fun meeting place, especially for out-of-town paw pals visiting us. It’s a great park to go for a walk and take fantastic photos.

Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park

Phase I of the sculpture exhibition started in August 2013, and now (in 2024) it’s in Phase VII. It’s a rotational sculpture exhibit.

Great Addition: Off-Leash Newport Beach Dog Park

When Civic Center Park was founded in 2013, the off-leash dog park is a fantastic addition as Newport Beach’s first dog playground.

The dog park encompasses enclosed runs for both large and small dogs. The play area is partially lined with all-season astroturf, and the other half consists of flat dirt. There’s a water fountain for the dogs, and benches are available for humans under a shaded area.

Located at the north end of Civic Center Park, between Avocado Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, the park is open from 7 am until dusk every day. Public parking spaces are available on Avocado Avenue, but they are limited. The alternative option is to park at Civic Center Park and walk to the dog park.

The park is very well-maintained by Newport Beach, CA. Therefore to all dog owners, it’s important to respect and follow the dog park rules.

We are not big fans of going to an off-leash dog park. Thus, we seldom bring our golden retrievers here, and if we do, we come early to ensure we are the only dogs in the park. We prefer taking our dogs on long walks, so walking from the Civic Center Park parking area to the dog park is a good over-a-mile walk.

In conclusion, Bunnyhenge at Newport Beach’s Civic Center Park is an awesome and fun attraction for dog owners, locals, and visitors. Despite the initial controversy surrounding its creation, Bunnyhenge has become a favorite spot for many, attracting people from all over Orange County to take photos and enjoy its whimsical charm.

While Bunnyhenge is the highlight of Civic Center Park, there’s plenty more to enjoy, like the lovely plants, amazing sculptures, walking trails, and a dog park.
