Tasty Tuesday: Salmon Carrot Bone Oats Dog Treat

April 2, 2013

Salmon is a favorite meal in my household.
Mom usually set a side a small unseasoned portion for me and mixed it with my meal.
This time she decided to make a special salmon treat for me.

Salmon is a fatty fish. It is known for its omega- 3 fatty acids.
These fats are beneficial for dog’s skin/coat and immune system.
It does wonder for dogs that have allergies, like me.
You can give your dog cooked salmon or salmon oil (as a supplement with their meal).
Just remember, never feed your dog raw salmon.

Salmon Carrot Bone Oats
Ingredients
1 1/4 cup of flour
1 cup of oats
1/2 cup of salmon
1/2 cup of carrots (grated or shredded)
1 small egg (optional)
2 tsp of oil
1 cup of water

Combine all the dry ingredients. Stir in the egg, oil and water.
Adjust the liquid as necessary to make a stiff dough.
Roll on floured board/counter to `3/8 thick. Use a bone shaped cutter.
Place it on a cookie sheet or mat.
Bake for 2-3 hrs in 250 degrees oven until thoroughly dry.
(Adjust your cooking time depending on your oven). You may bake it at 375 degrees. Baking it at a slow temperature provides a special texture and extra crunchiness.

I waited for a long time for these DELISH! Tasty Salmon treats.

Definitely Tuesdays Just Got Tastier.

Hi Sugar! We’ve never had salmon, but it sounds yummy. Mom says she can’t stand it — not the taste, not the smell — raw, cooking, or already cooked — and not the feel of it in her hands. She’s like that about most fish. Dad loves salmon, so when he wants to eat it, he and Mom go to their favorite restaurant and he eats it there. 🙂

Your photography makes my mom so jealous! My mom has a fear of fish, so no fish in our house, not even tuna. I might like these but as long as mom is around I will never find out…I know, sometimes she is odd 🙂
