Dogs do get anxious too. Dogs can be anxious for many reasons and there are many effective ways to help an anxious dog. Does your dog have anxiety?
From petMD, anxiety is the “anticipation of future dangers from unknown or imagined origins.”
Does your dog warn you of impending stormy weather?
For the past months, Sugar was exhibiting odd behaviors. She has become very sensitive to the change in barometric pressure and weather changes like rain and thunderstorms. Severe weather is causing Sugar anxiety. ThunderShirt to the rescue. ThunderShirt is known to provide a calming effect for dogs suffering from anxiety.
ThunderShirt: Natural Dog Anxiety Treatment
Thunderworks sent Sugar their new ThunderShirt MLB Collection.
What is a ThunderShirt and How does a ThunderShirt work?
ThunderShirt is a garment that provides constant but gentle pressure on your dog’s body. Based on the theory that “pressure has a calming effect on the nervous system“, ThunderShirt calms down an anxious dog. From the ThunderShirt website, 80% of dogs who wear a thunder shirt show fewer symptoms of anxiety. Pet Parents can expect to see a significant improvement of their dog’s behavior with no training involved. I put ThunderShirt to the “Sugar Golden” test.
What are some signs of an anxious dog?
Here are some behaviors that Sugar exhibited when she was anxious.
- Panting accompanied by some drooling
- Hiding behind her bed, end of the couch, or under a table
- Worried wide eyes with her ear(s) pinned back
- Making whining noises
- Refuses to have a treat
ThunderShirt Golden Verdict
Wearing the ThunderShirt diminished Sugar’s worries. Sugar was able to move around and settle on her bed. It took a while for her panting and drooling to stop. Her whining continued until the storm ended. I tried to distract her by giving her favorite treat, banana in a kong. She took it but would stop when I left her sight.
4 Golden Paws Up! It did calm Sugar down. ThunderShirt is a worthwhile natural option for a dog that struggle with anxiety. Lately, the weather has been odd and it seems that a thunderstorm is always on the radar. As a pet parent, I am prepared to help Sugar.
MLB ThunderShirt is made with 55% Polyester, 35% Rayon and 10% Spandex. The style is exactly the same as the original ThunderShirt. It takes 3 fitting steps and uses very durable velcro strips to put in place. Keep in mind: The size of the ThunderShirt is critical as it must hug your dog’s frame.
Have you tried the ThunderShirt with your dog? Love to hear your dog’s experience.

thanks for a great review, I’ve heard many good things about this shirt. It’s great that it is possible to help anxious dogs with this shirt. think that’s better than to give meds.
We’ve heard so many good things about this shirt. Finally a great review!! Thank you. Will recommend it to our customers!!
we have herd varying degrees of good and nothing about the thunder shirt….thankfully neither of my guys react to storms
My dog used to get super anxious and nervous but ever since he lost his hearing (old age), he hasn’t been. Although I think he knows when it’s thundering.. perhaps just something he feels even though he can’t hear. But I have heard such great things about the thunder shirt! Great review!
The clients that have gotten the thundershirt have loved it.
We like the little twist to the Thundershirt

My mommy bought one when we went to Germany in May. I wore my service vest most of the time, but when I was in the very long plane ride 15 hours she put that on me to calm me down. I do not think I needed it but mommy said it calmed me down. She tells her clients all about the thunder shirt, it is well worth the money and it works. Even her clients have had great success with it. I am not afraid of thunder or storms but mommy uses it for when we travel in the plane.
We are OK except for thunder storms and we had a big one last night. Peeps let’s me find my hideout and leaves me to it. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
Katie is the only one that really has any anxiety, but it isn’t that bad and not real often. She does get some different behaviors as she gets older, so we have this in mind if she starts to have anxiety issues.
We did a review on the Thundershirt as well, just a few weeks back. It has worked well to keep my youngest husky calm when people come over, and help his anxiety while we are away.
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I have these for a couple of my dogs and they work wonderful
I have a 9 you old corgi that has anxiety that I have never seen before. Tried thunder vest, it worker very little. So we were out of options went to vet and she is now on Prozac along with mess for storms, it seems to be working for now. Praying it will give her the, peace she really needs.
I’ve heard they are really good. I’m not a fan of thunder, but as long as mummy is around for me to curl up with then I don’t mind it too much
Good review guys! I am seriously considering getting a Thundershirt for our little girl Killa. She has been showing some nervous behaviour such as chewing up household items and toileting inside on the floor when we are gone during the day. She doesn’t do either of these things whilst we are home.
She is also generally a nervous dog when other people are around the house. We’ve come leaps and bounds in the last couple of months but I’m thinking it might help because she is so small (3.5kg) perhaps it might make her feel more secure in her own skin!
Our Golden friend uses a Thundershirt too and it does help him.
I guess Goldens are just a lot more sensitive than the crowd at our house…as long as the meals aren’t affected we do fine during storms 🙂
Poor Sugar. I had no idea you were afraid of thunderstorms. Maya and Pierson share their thundershirt, although Maya doesn’t really need it as much as Pierson. Pierson is not afraid of thunderstorms but he can be a big chicken about other things.
