Orange County is located in the heart of Southern California.
We are finding lots of fun places that are dog-friendly.
Sugar, as a retriever dog, loves the beach. It’s our weekend ritual to go to the beach.
Here are Sugar’s 3 favorite dog-friendly beaches in Orange County.
3 Dog-Friendly Beaches in Orange County
1) Corona Del Mar State Beach on Ocean Boulevard – Corona Del Mar, known in Spanish as “Crown of the Sea” offers an awesome beach with breathtaking views. Dogs are allowed on the Corona Del Mar beach leashed during the day 6-10am and after 4:00pm. You and your dog can easily walk/run 1.72 miles, on the sand and pavement walkway. On the pavement walkway, there are many viewing spots with benches to rest. You have to stop at Inspiration Point and take in the view.
Trash bins are available on these viewing spots. There are poop bag dispenser but it’s always empty. Make sure to bring extra poop bags. During sunset, many sit gather on the lawn by the entrance, so its important to pick-up after your dog.
2) Huntington Beach, CA known as Surf City – A portion of the beach is designated for dogs. It starts at Golden West Street (21st Street) to Sea Point. It is known as the dog-friendless beach in Orange County. It’s an off-leash beach and dogs can run, play, swim and surf. Just be cautious of the waves as it can be rough at times.

This is Sugar’s favorite Orange County beach. WHY? she can swim … and ride the waves. Check our post: Surf Up! Shake It Off! and watch Sugar’s “Shake It Off” 7sec video, as she shakes water from her fur.
3) Laguna Beach offers several dog-friendly beaches. Laguna Beach is the oldest city in Orange County. It feels like you are in a paradise island with spectacular views. From June 15th through September 10th, between 9:00 – 6:00 p.m., dogs are not allowed on any beach. Before 9:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. dogs are allowed on the beach but must be on a leash. From September 11th through June 14th, dogs are allowed on the beach but must be on a leash. Laguna Beach’s Heisler Park is a great spot to watch the sunset.
If you plan to visit Orange County with your dog, make some time to visit these 3 dog-friendly beaches.
I wish we had such a Huntington Beach here too. Dogs are mostly not allowed on our beaches, not even in the early morning or in the evening. They are very strict and dogs are banned from june to september. we have to accept that, but imho the people leave more mess behind on the beaches than 87 dogs. but we are happy that we can use a private beach area, the lady there said we are always welcome, because we were the only ones who asked for entering the beach and sadly we were also the only ones who used poop bags…not really a good reputation for the dog owners of france :o(
How fun! I’ve never had a chance to take the pups to the ocean.
